All you have to do is look at the pictures of Bare Hill (above) to see what Greene and Washington look like...(I have been to all three as an inmate)

Because, you can't tell the difference between these "Medium A" prisons at all (90% of them all look exactly the same). The only thing different about them is the spacing of the different buildings on the land. Other than that, these prisons look exactly the same. We call them "cookie cutter" prisons. Because they use the same blueprints, bricks and everything else to make them. You might as well call them clones.

Also, out of the 20+ years I have been doing time in NYS, I never heard of one person getting in trouble taking pics of the outside of the prisons. Even though they have signs not to take pics or whatever...all of these prisons can be viewed in the DOCS magazine or books. So, there is no secret regarding what these places look like. What DOCS is more concerned about is the taking pictures of the inside of the prisons. Because that can be a security problem.

I am just curious but do you have any idea why the DOC's have this rule you are citing? I've heard of the security concerns of course, but I have also seen all sorts of authorized photographic coverage of institutions that show perimeter fences, and other strategic locations that are usually cited for cameras not being allowed.

Kinda reminds me of inspections in a way.. You know, when region or some upper level or outside commission breezes through to make sure everyone is eating and not living on the floor.. When I was inside we sure enjoyed the VIP treatment we got while this was going on but afterwords people were back on the floors and eating (sometimes) slop..

My personal view on this is that what they really want is controlled images getting to the outside world.. AKA "Authorized"... or Pretty pictures, if you will.. It wouldn't be good if someone snapped a picture or video of actual daily life inside a prison. The truth might get out to the general population.. ;)

Security is the only reason we're told. It boils down to they can't control it (what photos are being taken) so they ban it.
