About the Lincoln Correctional Center

The Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC), located in the capitol city of Lincoln, Nebraska is a medium/maximum security facility for adult males. Replacing the Men's Reformatory, the present institution was authorized by the 1975 Legislature. The Lincoln Correctional Center, originally a minimum/medium security institution, and the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center, a maximum security facility, opened in August of 1979. Located on land west of the city of Lincoln, both facilities were constructed near the site of the original institution. In July 1986, the two facilities were administratively combined into a single institution known as the Lincoln Correctional Center. As part of an institutional reorganization, the two facilities were again separated into distinct institutions in October of 1993.

LCC has been accredited by the American Correctional Association since 1981.

The LCC provides care, custody and programming to a variety of inmates, primarily younger, first-time inmates. Each of the housing units of the institution is somewhat unique. One unit serves the mentally ill and socially and developmentally impaired inmates and contains an inpatient program for sex offenders. One unit is designated as segregation, supplementing the sixteen cell Control Unit that is used to house the most disruptive inmates. Three-quarters of one unit is designated to house inmates who have been classified to Protective Custody status. The remaining housing units house general population inmates.
