Hi Guys. I need some help. I mailed my husbands wedding band to him on July 15th and I used a Priority Mailing Envelope (which was confirmed as being received on the 18th) and insured the ring with $80 worth of coverage. Okay here's the problem. When I called the Prison I was told to just insure it, I wasn't told to send a receipt verifying the price. Not only that, but I mailed him a letter along with it and a $50 Money Order which as of last weekend hadn't been placed on his books :angry: . My husband is getting ready to leave the Reception Center to go to FireCamp. Who should I contact to find out where his ring, money, and letter is since I haven't received it and neither has he?

Did you place the money order in with the letter? That could be the problem. Usually no other mail is suppose to be in the envelope with the money order. If that is the case, the money order will be returned to Sender.
Now that still doesnt answer where the ring is however. I would call the prison and ask to speak to his caseworker and see if he can help in any way. If not you might try asking to speak to the Deputy Warden or the Warden. Usually it is difficult to get to talk with a Warden, but sometimes. Has the money order had time to get back to you? Since you did have the ring insured and if it is not given to your husband then you can always go to the Post Office and file a claim for it.
If you choose to do this, I would also inform the prison that is what you are going to be doing. Alot of times then it will miraculously show up.

:o Thanks so much for the info. I'm sorry, I forgot that the woman at the Post Office took the ring out of the envelope and placed it into a small box and then placed the letter and money order inside of the box. I'll call the Prison as soon as I find out who my husband's counselor is.

I just wanted to add here in NC you can send a letter and money order at the same time it just takes longer for it to go on their books.... if you call the prison ask to speak to someone in the MAIL ROOM first before going to the case worker.... let the case worker know you have spoken to someone in the mail room and they were/weren't of any help to you.... alot of times the person in the mail room has received the package and if they cant find the inmate (since it was insured) they will hold on to the package....so might just be a small misunderstanding... give it a few days, then if your husband STILL hasnt received it call the mailroom and ask if they have seen it.... then contact the caseworker, then go back to the post office.... reason I am suggesting contacting the mailroom instead of his case worker first is the case workers have no clue what is going on in the mailroom... and would take them awhile .... where as if you contact someone during the day in the mailroom they may be of more help to you!!! Just my two cents worth!! ;) Best of luck to you!! Let us know how it goes!!!

BabyGirl is right. If you mailed it along with a money order, the whole package will be returned to you. You said, July 15th. You should have received it back by now. You should contact the post office to see if they could track it.
