Reception is where all new arrivals are housed, when they first get into State Prison they are locked up here 23 hours a day and let out for about 1 hour to a secured yard. He will be here for anywhere from 60 days minimum or until he is calssified and sent to his final housing level. 1, 2, 3 or 4. The 23 hour lock up usually ends after about 2-3 weeks and they are giving more free movement and access to showers. There are no phones in reception and the only thing he is allowed to have while there are Paper, Envelopes, Pictures and Pencils. If you have his housing unit # yet? you can send him blank legal yellow lined paper removed from the binder, 20 pre-stamped (lick and stick) envelopes and some 4x6 photos. Also soon he will access to canteen in the coming weeks/months if you want to send him money to be able to buy some much needed goodies from the stores. Simply get yourself a money order, make it payable to him and include his CDC # and housing unit #, include it in a letter to him and the mail room will remove it and apply it to his account in about a week or so. Tell him to mail you CDC form 106 for visiting (be sure he signs and dates it) get that filled out and mail it back to the visiting seargant at his facility. It takes between 30-60 days to get approved at some facilites. The first 2 months are the toughest not knowing where he's at and no contact, but it get's better from there. Once he's classified he'll get his out date his privlage ratings and off to his final housing unit. While in reception you can visit after approved and these are "no contact" visits. That could change after he's in final housing. Feel free to drop more questions, hope this helps. RPinSD:thumbsup: Dre's Lady 08-11-2004, 04:22 AM Welcome to the PTO family. It seems that RPinSD answered your questions. His/Her time starts as soon as he/she is sentenced. Whether or not he's in a county jail or prison. quiltermom 08-15-2004, 12:41 PM My son had been at MC for several months after going through RC at DVI (hell) for 3 months. He was sent to court last week, and now I have been told that he has to go to San Quentin for RC . How long will he be there? Can I go visit? Do I need to get another approval? Will he be sent back to MC? Why does he have to go through HELL again (RC)? I just don't understand this....does the pain ever stop.....DVI almost destroyed him, can he do another RC? quiltermom Haley 08-15-2004, 01:02 PM Hello....well i think the ladies took care of your question.
