Governor Beshear says he's concerned about where we're seeing some of our cases, including nursing homes. From long-term care facilities in Kentucky, there have been 55 positive cases in residents, 22 in staff and 11 deaths. At the Green River Correctional Complex in Muhlenberg County, there are 14 total cases, nine inmates and five staff.

This is all so freak'n heartbreaking.....and scary. Once the virus takes hold it going to difficult to rein it in in a prison setting, especially those with open dorms, like GRCC :(

GRCC isn't open dorm :slap:...what was I thinking :hmm:

Doesn't seem to matter if its open dorm or 2-man cells, the numbers just keep going up :(

Sadly, the only way to find this out is from the Governor's daily news conference. It is nowhere on the DOC site or the Muhlenberg County Health Department site.

Other state DOC's & the BOP Covid-19 info on their websites and update the numbers daily. KY DOC doesn't have anything :hmm: :blah:

I have had to recently explain to many people that not all prisons are like what you see on television where everyone has a cell alone or with one person. My husband is in a dorm setting.... there are 1,700 people at his prison (not counting the camp) spread out in three "dorms"

He was 49 years old, serving a sentence for assault and escape out of Jefferson County. He had been in the hospital since April 8. He had 3 years left to serve.

My prayers go out to his family.

I wish we had a Damn, that makes me sad button :(

My condolences to his friends & family.

sass, the numbers you're posting is for Green River only, right :hmm: KY DOC finally has some info on DOC webpage:
https://corrections.ky.gov/facilities/pages/covid19.aspx

...but the numbers in official press release about the death states:

The Kentucky Department of Corrections has approximately 12,000 incarcerated offenders in 13 prisons and 4,000 employees. Currently, 19 inmates and 15 staff have tested positive for COVID-19. Five have recovered. The agency also supervises about 50,000 offenders in the community through probation and parole.

From the way that is written, one would "assume" those are the numbers for the entire prison system. They wouldn't fudge on the numbers, would they :nono:

Those are all at Green River. The Governor has a special slide he shows specifically for GRCC.

There is one positive CO at RCC. No other prisons have been infected.

I find it odd that the numbers keep going up at Green River, yet not one case in any other Kentucky prison :hmm:

Any numbers out there for county facilities?

My heartfelt condolences to his family & friends :(

There's 1 employee at RCC who has tested positive. The first report about Green River was that 2 on the administrative side had it. But recently I read it was 2 nurses.

I've seen news reports about jails but can't really find anything. DOC doesn't really claim any, well, anything about state inmates in county. DOC just pays the county. DOCs policies and procedures also don't count for them.

I know there was 1 positive employee at Daviess County, I think there was one at Bullitt, and I think Woodford.

up to 120 more positive cases and an additional death in the facility.

Asked if citizens who have a loved one in the prison should be scared, Beshear was blunt in his answer.

“Should they worry? Yes,” Beshear said. With the virus "there at the level it is, you ought to be worried.”

309 more positive today. More results expected. DOC hasn't updated their site with these numbers yet.

https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/2020/04/16/live-updates-coronavirus-pandemic-louisville-kentucky/5143512002/

The secretary for the executive cabinet, J. Michael Brown, said that there have been 1,81 people tested at Green River and 52 tests are still pending. The facility will also change its housing system and place individuals into three groups, Brown said.

The plan is to isolate those who test positive for the virus, those who test negative but have had exposure to the virus and then those who have tested negative without exposure. The facility would also completely separate at-risk individuals who have tested negative for the virus.

Green River currently has four individuals in the hospital, two staffers and two inmates. One inmate is in the intensive care unit, along with one staff member. Brown also announced another death from over the weekend at the facility, which brings the total at Green River to three.

My brother is at GRCC and he sent us an email yesterday that he tested positive. He knew he had it as he has been extremely sick for the past 3 weeks. He has had to buy his own tylenol as they refuse to do anything to help them other than lock them down alone and just hope he gets better. Pretty scary stuff as he has had asthma his whole life and now has this attacking his respiratory system. I guess all we can do is pray he gets well on his own.

Kwebby, If your brother can get a hold of vitamin c tell him to do so as it helps with the immune system. I would tell you to get him to get some vitamin d3 but know that in prison they don't sell that in commissary nor are we allowed to send it to our loved ones.

I've heard that vitamin c is often given to Covid patients in the hospital....well worth trying if he can get some.

I wonder why its gotten so out of control at GRCC while most facilities have had 0 staff and 0 inmates test positive :hmm:

It began with 2 staff testing positive. The first report was that they were in the Admin building and never around inmates. That changed though. Evidently they were around inmates and other staff who also spread it to them.
They also didn't separate anyone like they should have.

RCC has had 2 positive staff and 1 inmate for awhile now. They did the right thing in isolating that 1 inmate, and of course, keeping those staff at home.

Now to watch, KSP has 1 staff and KCIW has 3 staff. Hopefully none of it got to the inmates.

And finally, Morgan County has announced several new cases. That's where EKCC is. Praying those positive cases are not staff or anyone near staff.
