Some of you may also want to contact John Walsh, at the below e-mail address (America's Most Wanted TV Program) to express concern or opposition. If you intend to contact him, you should do so ASAP. It is hoped that he will reconsider his endorsement and withdraw it.

FYI, all of the law enforcement and police association agencies have endorsed Arpaio's opponent in the Republican primary, Dan Saban. Only registered Republicans can vote for Saban (or Arpaio), and the deadline to change your registration is August 9th in order to vote in the Republican primary election on September 7th. If you temporarily change your registration, you can change it back if you want to for the general election in November. Those who are registered as Independents can vote in the primary election on either ballot (but only on one ballot) by simply requesting a Republican or Democratic ballot.

Best wishes,

Mr. John Walsh:

Our organization, Middle Ground Prison Reform, was formed in 1983, and represents the viewpoint of the families of prisoners as well as prisoners themselves. "Middle Ground" means that we support moderate and effective prison and jail policies which ultimately contribute to long-term public safety.

We have recently learned that you have endorsed Sheriff Arpaio's candidacy for re-election.

We are strongly opposed to the re-election of Joe Arpaio because of his well documented dismal record on human rights. This includes a case called Demery v. Arpaio in which an injunction was ordered by a federal court against the Sheriff for the use of Internet cameras exposing female pre-trial detainees in various stages of undress and toileting activities, without any legitimate security basis. In addition, there have been lawsuits in the tens of millions of dollars which have been settled out-of-court for the unnecessary deaths or injuries to inmates while in his care and custody.

We understand your portrayal of criminals as "the bad guys" and the tough law and order stance that is presented in your television program. However, simple human rights extend to everyone -- and no where more than in America.
