View Full Version : FCI Beaumont Riot/Lockdown - Anyone know about it?
TxYellowRose 08-01-2004, 03:40 AM Hi Everyone,
I was told there are other members that have their loved ones at the Beaumont FCI. My son is there and I was getting quite anxious about the riot that took place and why they are still in a lockdown. I received a letter from my son yesterday and the situation was alot worse than I thought!! He said the riot involved about 700 inmates .... he said he had never seen such a mess before ... from stabbings to brutal beatins with baseball bats. He is afraid several of his buddies might be dead ........ he was there and said he kept pulling downed guys to the side to get them out of the way!! Does any of this ever appear in the news???? I know my son is quite upset by all of this .... AND SO AM I!! He is going to be in prison for along time and how is all of this going to affect him? I still get mad at the judge for giving him such a long sentence. I'M JUST VENTING!!! THANK GOD I CAN DO THAT HERE!! I GUESS THIS IS SUPPOSE TO MAKE HIM A REAL MAN!! He is only 24 and a young one at that! Yes, he has seen violent movies before but this is real life!! I just can't imagine what goes on behind those walls!! My son was calling me about 3 times a week and I do miss not talking to him.
Has anyone else heard anything from their loved ones in Beaumont? How long does a lockdown normally last? My son does not seem to know!
Thanks for the chance to let it out! A concerned MOM.
Marla
lunachild 08-01-2004, 10:46 AM I am really sorry you are having to go through this. I can't imagine what they must feel, the ones that aren't use to that kind of violence. I won't even watch violent movies. I know after Jason went to prison he saw a couple of brutal beatings and he was stunned. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. He said he had only ever saw something like that in the movies. He couldn't even believe the prison. He had only ever been in local county jail. And he is a total flower child type.
Like feeding lambs to the wolves. I hope you hear some better news soon. God bless.
zagava1 08-01-2004, 01:07 PM I'm really sorry for you. I can't imagine what you are going through. My son was in a lock down last week at Rudd. Of course, they went through all of their stuff and just tore things apart. They took things out of my son's Bible. What do these guards think they are doing? They are so inhumane. It just makes me sick. Something needs to be done, but we are helpless. If these judges had to spend just a couple of days in the situation, I think that they would look at these sentences a lot differently. My son is a non violent offender and is suffering. My prayers are with each of you.
Perry33103 08-01-2004, 03:37 PM Unfortunatley these are the kinds of things that go on in there. Last month the unit my husband is at was on lock down also. Everyone had their things gone through (they never do this in a nice way, huh?) to check for contraband. My husband had just gone to the store a few days prior to the lock down. He stocked up on food and during the lock down he had to throw almost all of it away. I guess they felt sorry for him and let him keep a few things like his coffee and a few soups and some chips. He had sent his store receipt home to me and since he didn't have it, they gave him the choice of throwing the food away or taking a case for having it without the commissary receipt. I didn't know he could get into trouble for not having that receipt or I wouldn't have asked him to send it home to me. He has been doing it for months now. Anyway, I just thought it was ridiculous to make him throw his food away! He keeps his receipts now! I understand the necessity of having shakedowns but they should start with the guards first!!!!!! They know exactly how most of the contraband is getting inside the prison so why don't they start with the guards? Instead of trying to hunt down and find contraband items, why don't they just stop it from coming in? Thanks for letting me share my piece. :o
Perry33103 08-01-2004, 03:40 PM P.S. we are not helpless.............if we think we are, then we will be. :)
grouchpotato 08-01-2004, 04:04 PM AMEN to that Perry. The guards are corrupt big time.My son told me anything you can get on the outside you can get here. I sympathize with you Marla. My son has told me enough to make my hair turn gray (if it wasnt all ready HAHA)He is an easy going person too .But he was led to fight another inmate who wore him down with harrassment and wouldnt let him sleep . Luckily this was in county and didnt go against him. I am so glad for PTO and the support here. I could kiss FED-EX and all of you all. God bless you all.
TxYellowRose 08-01-2004, 04:57 PM Thank you all for responding! Yes, my son did mention also that he lost alot of his personal things and needed more money asap. He didn't mention the guards taking the stuff but it could have been. He also told me about all the cases of goodies the guards steal and give them to the inmates to keep them happy. I can't believe the goings-on in prison. It's just unbelievable!
Perry is your son in Beaumont?
Marla
jamiefromtx 08-01-2004, 10:24 PM I am sorry that you are going through the pain of having to know your son is in a place that is not safe. Thankfully, I was in a state facility that was a safe environment. We did have a few shake downs, the guards did throw your stuff everywhere, and I did have a few items taken away from me as well because of no commissary receipt. But to be honest, one of the times was when another inmate was leaving and she gave me a pair of shorts and two t-shirts. Another inmate told the guard and I had the stuff taken away but did not receive a case for it.
The reason for this rule is that sometimes offenders will steal from other inmates and the only way to prove that you actually purchased the items in question is to have your commissary receipt. Things such as fans, radios, hotpots etc are engraved with your inmate id number before you leave the commissary.
I cannot imagine having to live in fear everyday . Isn't Beaumont a Federal Facility? I always thought the federal facilities were alot better than state facilities.
My thoughts are with you, stay strong and remember....the most important part of an inmates day is mail call.!!!!
Fed-X 08-01-2004, 10:37 PM Does anyone else have information on this? Maybe some word has filtered back from people at the Low, Camp or USP?
Yeah, the city of Blow-Mont (Beaumont, Texas) isn't real good about reporting on things like this but I think the feds have a little deal worked out... Keep everything quiet.
Perry33103 08-01-2004, 10:41 PM Marla, its my husband thats in there and he's in Amarillo. :)
kintml2u 08-29-2004, 07:48 AM I had heard of this...but never could find more information. Has anyone came up with more?
TxYellowRose 08-29-2004, 09:05 AM No ... no one came up with ANY information at all. The lockdown is over but supposedly 4 guys were killed and 14 others taken to a Galveston hospital. I couldnt find anything in the papers either. I wanted to send the newspaper article to the sentencing judge to show him the violence he had put my son in. lol. I'm sure he would not have appreciated it but it would have got him to thinking ... if he has any conscience at all.
I wonder how they can get away with covering up something so tragic.
Marla
kintml2u 08-29-2004, 09:16 AM The newspaper fear Big Brother...I'm sure that is part of it! It's not often we will ever catch site of an article concerning an issue like this...I sure do hope something changes! With the amount who were involved in this one...it is scary!
Prayers for the families of those who lost their lives...and for everyone dealing with this system!
Marla...you could always write something on your own...from your experience! But I agree...he may not like it! :D Just hope his family never has to face this...
Thanks!
i just got out of the coffield unit and lockdowns are a real pain in the butt. the gaurds take what they want and tear your house all to pieces. the main reason for a lockdown is to find all the weapons that they can. the warden is the one who says when they can come up. the gaurds hate it as much as the inmates because they have to do more work.
texasmomma 08-30-2004, 07:44 PM hey,
I live about 20min away and their hasn't been anything on our local news about any riots. This is the first..I did hear about some inmates trying to escape from the Stiles unit, it was on all local news chanels, but once again the local police stated that no inmates were escaping, stating that was"false" information... Who knows..they did lay off several hundred guards last year..It would be very easy if they wanted to escape, not enuff of man power..And out here in Boremont(Beaumont) you see on the local news of how more and more female guards are getting terminated by sleeping with the inmates and even getting pregnant by them..It even happens at the co. jail as well..They try to keep it all on the down low....
thanks
lala
