A man who the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office arrested Monday had walked off an Atlanta city work program earlier this month, the Atlanta Department of Corrections verified Wednesday.
James Robert Hentze, 49, had been serving a 30-day sentence for disorderly conduct when he walked away from a cleanup project on July 15, spokeswoman Gayle Middlebrook said. Hentze had only seven days left to complete his sentence, Middlebrook said.
The Atlanta Department of Corrections houses only misdemeanor offenders.
Hentze remained at the Beaufort County Detention Center Wednesday with $35,000 in bond set for charges of grand larceny and possession of a controlled substance, according to the jail log.
The Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that he had pending charges in Georgia for a home burglary, an auto theft and walking away from the work program.
