View Full Version : Letters : Inmate to Inmate
Hello. My friend was just transferred to a new prison and wants to keep in contact with his old cellie. If I have them mail their letters to me and then mail them to each other can I get in trouble in any way? I don'i think I could but just want to know if anyone out there has any input on the matter. Thank you
Jill
mousies wife 07-29-2004, 11:46 AM yes you can get in trouble, inmates are not allowed to correspond through mail, prison to prison I mean you may not get caught depending on your friends situation and if they read incoming or outgoing mail... these are the laws in California if you do get caught the could suspend all writing priveledges or correspondence betwenn you and him. Just be careful.
Dre's Lady 07-29-2004, 11:52 AM IN FLORIDA, ITS NOT ACCEPTED: INMATE TO INMATE WRITING. BE CAREFUL SWEETIE! HE COULD GET IN ALOT OF TROUBLE FOR THAT.
Grace1 07-29-2004, 12:11 PM All three of you could get into trouble. I would suggest not doing it. You could write a note yourself to his friend and update him on your guy but mailing a letter from one to the other could put an end to your correspondence all together.
doughsgurl 07-29-2004, 12:15 PM I know it's not allowed in Ohio either... You could get all your mail priveleges revoked.. I would advise ya not to do it.. you don't want to mess with your communication!!!!
rosiensmokee 07-29-2004, 12:27 PM I'VE DONE IT FOR MY BABY AND I NEVER GOT IN TROUBLE. YOU JUST HAVE TO BE SMART ABOUT IT... Hello. kreepsgirl 07-29-2004, 01:49 PM No inmates cannot write each other. What you can do is have your man write the letter to his friend and you send it to him. Thats how I do it.
Not allowed in WA state either. I know someone who did it for awhile, but was eventually busted. Big time. Now all 3 are looking for a 4th to correspond through.
That is my 2 cents.

AmyLynn 07-29-2004, 02:07 PM My man writes his friends from a prison to another prison and I have nothing to do with it.So I guess here in Michigan they can write each other.
EddysWife 07-29-2004, 02:16 PM They can correspond with each other in Minnesota, too. I don't understand why that isn't allowed, that's so stupid!!!!
PEACE
Kim
mrsdragoness 07-29-2004, 02:21 PM It IS allowed in some states such as Michigan. However, in states where its against the rules, the inmates involved could get major tickets and loss of priveledges (sp) as well as the person on the outside doing the mailing, could lose visiting and mail priveledges as well.
Its up to you if you want to do this, but please remember the consequences if caught.

*Johnny's Angel* 07-29-2004, 02:25 PM mY BOYFVRIEND AND HIS BROTHER WRITE TO EACH OTHER AND NO ONE EVER SAID ANYHTING. tHEY ARE IN 2 DIFFERENT PRISONS AS WELL AND HAVE A DIFFERENT LAST NAME. hE ALSO WRITES TO HIS MOTHER WHO HAS A DIFFERENT LAST NAME.. i DONT NOT BELIEVE THEY CHECKED OR ASKED FOR PERMISSION BECUASE HE TALKS NEITHER TO HIS MOTHER OR HIS BROTHER AND NEVER EXPECTED THEM TO WRITE.. WOULDNT THE MAIL ROIOM SEE THIS IF IT WAS TROUBLE?? MAYBE ITS OK IN NJ??
bunnyrun5 07-29-2004, 02:33 PM I am talking to my Hubbie about that now. He wants to write to his brother who is in prison also and I refuse to give him information as to where he is until he gets permission from the Warden of both prisons to do so. That's the proper way to go about it.
BillnDenise 07-29-2004, 03:32 PM It's not allowed where my Sweetie is...However, an inmate can get special permission to write another inmate, if they are married.
e_wife03 07-29-2004, 03:38 PM i dont think that it is allowed in any state... but i do it for my husband ... my brother writes me a letter and then he writes him a letter... i send him the letter from my bro and they dont know its from someone in jail... its not like he writes his prison info on the letter... they have no knowledge of the person... cuz my brother onlly signs his lletters with his nickname....
the onlly inmate to inmate that is allowed mostly every where is blood relatives cuz my husband contacts his sis and his brother and they are incarcerated in IL and he is in TX
k bartosh 07-29-2004, 03:44 PM Crap! I did not know that I could get in trouble, Danny is in Pelican-B shu and his brothers in cor- shu. Those little B......! thanks for the info
HotLatinaMILF4U 07-29-2004, 04:10 PM To avoid loss of privileges/tickets, etc. I write to my mans friends for him, giving them updates and asking them the things he would like to know about them. They write back to me and I read the letters to Sebastian on the phone.

jasonsmyhoney 07-29-2004, 05:57 PM i personally have done it and havent gotten caught, but ive been lucky. i dont plan on doing it anymore cuz a girl that visits at the prison my man is in lost her visits for 18 months for that. its actually considered a misdemeanor in the prison jasons in and im sure it has some consequences where your guy is too, so be very careful...its not worth it.
traciem2004 07-30-2004, 03:12 PM First, if an inmate wants to "legally" write another inmate they can request permission but it's usually only granted for co-defendants and family members.
Second, they have to be smart when writing. They can't write, "yeah, this prison still sucks." Instead they can use other words and stuff ... they will probably be pretty experienced at it. I do it all the time, I just take the letter and put it into another envelope. I don't put my letters in with it. Don't put your name on the envelope and you can put someone's address in case it gets kicked back .... like a friend of yours or something.
Inside Out 08-04-2004, 10:42 AM I was in jail and my husband in prison and we wrote all the time.
Thank You Everyone That Has Responded. I Have Chosen Not To Help My Friend And He'll Be Pissed But Will Have To Get Over It.
Thanks Again.

Be careful! inmate to inmate no response. Your love one could lose his priviledges also lose visit. I know back in Hawaii up to one year no visits. Just be careful.
sleepysgirl 08-26-2004, 06:28 PM my fiancee is in minnasota right now and one of his boys went back to wi. and they started to write to each other but then minnasota told him that he couldn't write to other inmates in other facilitys. i don't know why they changed the rules on him all of a sudden.
Lady Wabbit 08-26-2004, 09:42 PM my husband will include a "note" to his friend who got shipped to another unit in my letters. I write to his friend then his friend includes a "note" for me to forward on to my husband.
Reikimom 08-27-2004, 03:24 AM It's allowed in Michigan.
My man writes his friends from a prison to another prison and I have nothing to do with it.So I guess here in Michigan they can write each other.
Reikimom 08-27-2004, 03:26 AM I found out that they can get "tickets" for 'borrowing and lending' if they give or received stamped envelopes.
redphoenixx 08-27-2004, 03:33 AM It's allowed here in Wisconsin, but they read it VERY CAREFULLY, both incoming and outgoing. Can take like 3 times longer for the letter to get there.
I think it is sad they they won't allow it, especially if it is family. I think special consideration should be given to family members.
I've been the third part in letter swaps for my guy before, quite a few times. Mainly just cuz' he resents the intrusion into his privacy anymore than necessary.
itzmydestiny 08-27-2004, 09:55 AM i dont think that it is allowed in any state... but i do it for my husband ... my brother writes me a letter and then he writes him a letter... i send him the letter from my bro and they dont know its from someone in jail... its not like he writes his prison info on the letter... they have no knowledge of the person... cuz my brother onlly signs his lletters with his nickname....
Same here I do it for my fiance, his friend mails me the letter and I send it to my fiance , but I dont send the envelope of course and by looking at the letter you would never know, he doesnt write his cdc # on it or anything and signs by a nick name to. Actually I dont see why its not allowed.
Chris'Poohie 08-27-2004, 10:33 AM what i do is start a normal letter to him and then as if i am going into a new paragraph i start the letter from his "Homie" and make it just look as if it is part of my letter, but i did not know that he and "I" would get in trouble. i would never want my letters back and forth with him to stop, letters are all we have. i do not do it often, i mean a few times a year. i have not done it for like 2 years and then i got a letter the other day it was real short, so i did as i always do. now i am paranoid.
Where Myman Is At Its A Felony And Its Stated Right On The Rules. I Know Someone Who Is Suspended Right Now For Doing This. I Would Never Take The Chance Of Losing My Privledges Or Getting Myself Or Him Into Trouble.
