View Full Version : Getting drugs in prison?
Sadie80 07-27-2004, 10:23 PM I just posted this question in the California forum, but this is probably a more appropriate place to ask. Just how common is it to come across drugs in prison? I worry sometimes because my boyfriend is an addict. He says there is no way somebody could support a drug habit in prison, but that dosen't matter to me I don't want him to even come across anything. So how easy is it to get drugs in prison?
Dixie_sweetie 07-27-2004, 10:34 PM as you know I just posted that Mike used But Mike is at Work Release which he has more freedom to come across it. He told me before that he seen it serveal times at the prison (before he wnet to work release) so I am not sure on how easy it is to get or anything.
I wanted to just let you know that I hope you are doing better and not letting what happened to Mike make you think too much about your man and his addiction,. I really hope your man will be clean and stay clean. I wishyou all the happiness.
Sadie80 07-27-2004, 10:37 PM I was thinking about a situation such as Mikes before I even came across your thread. And I hate to say it, but my boyfriend is very weak when it comes to drugs or stupid as you say and he could more than likely get busted if the timing was right.
Dixie_sweetie 07-27-2004, 10:44 PM well Mike is weak too as you already read and I didn't mean to upset anyone bysaying "stupid" so I took that out. I am just upset with him at this point and it came out like that. Best wishes hope someone can confort your worries soon.
Sadie80 07-27-2004, 10:58 PM I know you didn't mean anything by saying stupid. I wanted to say Dave is stupid, but I didn't want to look mean. I guess I am just becoming angry from the past which I thought I let go of.
Shelby 08-02-2004, 12:08 AM My ex is in Baltimore City, drugs are everywhere. He says he doesn't use when he is locked up, considered a weakness inside (not sure if I believe that). Mostly heroin and pot, he's a crackhead. He told his dad that he can only get money orders in $50 dollar increments (lie), and he needs money for boots and a TV, and wanted me at one time to slip cash to him in a card. So, I think he's using, not as much as when he's out. But he can get it anytime he wants. Visitors bring it in, it gets through in packages and I hear guards bring it in also.
fly-free 08-02-2004, 03:48 AM My husband is always in the hole for testing "dirty":( He said that its easy to get drugs via visitors. At one time he told me who his 'mule' [person that brings drugs in] is...i was so mad that i told his caseworker...nothing was done. Hubby tested 'dirty' again and lost his visits, so now the 'mule' is visiting a friend and bringing the drugs into him via a friend:(
chintath 08-02-2004, 09:17 AM My friend says the guards are so low-paid where he is (start at $7/hr) and the prisoners run the place (a small private prison in Texas). They pass stuff through the vents.
key jo 08-02-2004, 12:19 PM My husband says it is easier to get drugs in prison than on the streets.
Lysbeth 08-02-2004, 07:21 PM Yup, same deal. Drugs are easier to get in most prisons than on the streets. If someone has someone on the outside that is willing to give them enough money (knowingly or unknowingly that it's for drugs) that they can get by on trading stuff to support their habit or 3rd party payments to others on the outside, it's way easy to support a habit in prison. Hell, my guy - who had done most everything but - had never even touched heroin on the street but he sure was able to find it easy in prison.
daa0414 08-08-2004, 08:54 PM It is very easy to get drugs in prison if you have money. That is one of the reasons I have started keeping my husband with an indigent status. By the way - it is the guards that bring it in to suppliment their income.
francis 08-11-2004, 03:48 AM flecky...i wish...i could give you some peace on this...i go through it myself..
don't feel bad about getting angry...my anger comes up when i least expect it...drug addicts cause their loved one's a lot of grief....
but,,, put it this way you could put an addict on a secluded ice mountain...he/she would still find it...if they wanted it...that is the nature of the beast(addiction)...
is your guy going to be transferred sometime in his last 120 days to these new drug treatment facilities...
you can pm me anytime..
much peace and love
francis
Dre's Lady 08-11-2004, 03:51 AM FLECKY, IT IS VERY EASY TO GET DRUGS INTO PRISONS. ESPECIALLY THROUGH CO's.
Why should prisons be any different than anywhere else when it comes to drug availablity? When my semi-ex-partner [who has spent a total of 20 years in prison] watched Oz he said one of the issues covered in this series that was very close to reality was that of the drug use by prisoners and how it was obtained!
I have seen plenty of "mule" visitors bring stuff in and watched the pass from visitor to prisoner [actually a somewhat humorous transaction if it were not drugs that were being passed]. How the prisoner hides the "goods" is off the hook, too. I have also seen CO's bring stuff in [while waiting outside of ad seg for visits]--hiding the stuff outside where it can later be picked up by a prisoner who is on a work crew, etc....
In NJ there is a 2-strike rule for dirty urines--first dirty urine loss of contact visits for 1 year [and then one must request them to be reinstated]; 2nd dirty urine--loss of contact visits for the remainder of one's sentence, period. The DOC claims there is a significant decrease in dirty urines since they instituted these rules about 5 years ago. PA has a similar rule except it is a 3 strike process.
In NJ there is also a roving visitor drug detection team--dogs and the Ionscan "sniff" visitors out as they go thru the visiting process. The team goes to different prisons thruout the month so you never know when they are coming to a prison "close to you". lol
SandC4E 08-14-2004, 01:11 PM Christopher says it's easier to get drugs behind the walls than it ever was on the streets. SCARY!
Sadie80 08-15-2004, 10:20 AM Egs I think the idea of the drug sniffing dogs sniffing visitors out is a good idea. I wish they would have that done at all prisons.
traciem2004 08-15-2004, 04:43 PM Most prisons have the ion drug machine anyway ... less liability than dogs.
traciem2004 08-15-2004, 04:44 PM Drugs are plentiful in prison if you can pay for them.
