redphoenixx 07-31-2004, 03:50 AM About the only good thing I can say about Stanley is that compared to most of the other prisons, the tables and chairs in the visiting room are more comfortable. Other than that, not too good, I'm afraid. It's a pretty small visiting room, their are a few toys for kids to play with. Few games and decks of cards for the adults.
The guards there in general are RUDE and totally impersonal. You'll never hear a friendly hello or see a smile from them.
They still don't have many programs or activities for inmates inside. If he can find a hobby or books to read, it will help to keep him busy.
And to the ladies-absolutely no underwires or hooks in the back! They won't get through. They may allow you to take it off and put it back on up there, but don't count on it.
Last I was there, you could take in a clear change purse and their change machine out in the lobby took 1-5-10-20's.
Any more questions, I'd be happy to answer!

thats what my daughter said too when she went to visit her brother about 2 weeks ago. You can sit across from each other here but your brother or whoever is in there MUST face the guards. My daughter sat there for 30 minutes before Jory came out and when he went to sit down which wasnt facing the guards a big rude nasty guard came over and announced him to move or else. Needless to say my daughter is a little fiesty and rude herself and told the guard he could of told her that 30 minutes ago when she was sitting there.:D My son tried to play it down seems the guards are pretty sadistic:angry: and that just so P*sses me off. Also you are right dont even where a bra, chances are they won't let you put it back on for fear it might become a WEAPON:p what ever......

mom new to this 09-13-2004, 01:46 PM The visiting rules at Stanley don't sound that much different from the rules at Kettle Moraine. It seems that every time I visit my son there we get in trouble for something. One time I was visiting with my son's 80 year old Grandma, we were outside and my son's Grandma had her hands on her lap, a guard called my son over and when my son came back he told his Grandma she had to keep her hands on the table, like she is going to slip him something under the table! One time I got yelled at by the guard in the tower for taking pictures of the deer on the parking lot as I got out of my car to visit. We also found out about the rule that the inmate has to face the guards. We just switched sides because the sun was in my eyes and I did not have my sunglasses. I could probably think of more but you get the idea. They treat the visiters like they are inmates too because they know we will take it if we want to visit our loved ones. Karen
lk5415 11-23-2008, 12:37 AM Is Stanley a prison that you can go to while you wait to get into the challenge incarceration program? and Jackson too? If anybody has an info please message me iina private message i am lost on this site!
thelook 12-07-2008, 12:37 AM I agree the gaurds there are the rudest I have seen.
I went to visit my son on Christmas one year, and as a gift I took an sealed box of chocolates for the guards.
I explained to them that I knew it was hard for them to be away from thier familys at christmas, but that I sure appreciated them being there so I could visit my son, The lady gaurd looked at me with disgust and snatched the candy out of my hand and threw it in the trash! She said we can not accept bribes!!! WHAT??
Anyway, I went in to see my son, and when I came back out she was gone and some male gaurds were eating the candy.....
vampyre0711 01-22-2009, 09:16 PM I just ran across this bulletin board....I wish I had known about it 6 years and 9 months ago.
My husband is at Stanley (he's been there for 1 year and also was there about 3 years ago).
The guards are horrible there. He has nothing but complaints about them. Other places haven't been this bad. Yes, I completely agree, even the guards at the visit center are rude and unhelpful or sympathtic. Don't expect them to go out of their way.
vsnowrn 01-22-2009, 10:41 PM Wow, I am sure glad my baby didn't get sent there. He's in Jackson, and the gaurds are very respectful, and since they have seen me so much, they actually smile and say Hi. Sometimes they give us and extra 15-20 minute visit at the end. I haven't had a problem so far. My man was at Stanley before and he said it was bad, also just had a friend get out, told my that Stanley is no joke, and they aren't even a MAX, what is up with that?

Oh my gosh . . . yah, I know exactly who you're talking about. She takes her job seriously, big time. She made me cry once when she yelled at me in front of everyone in the visiting room for simply brushing my boyfriends hair with my hand for just a second . . lol . . grrr. She has her moods . . then there were days that she would smile and joke with us a bit. I just think she has a few mood swings and overreacts at times.
Other than her, the other CO's there seemed to be okay.
