My friend and I had a heart to heart about my relationship with my friend. We've been on "a break" for a couple months, things have been really complicated.

She was wondering how many people have success with their relationships after release with their boyfriends or husbands. Specifically those where you didn't know them before they went in.

I've knew him about 2 weeks prior, but we were never a couple or anything. But I've stayed friends with him for the past 9 years. My family and friends have big concerns about my future, but only one has met him.

So if you have a good success story of after release and you didn't know him before he went him, please share.

Thanks

My friend dated a guy while he was incarcerated. She was by his side for 5yrs. They got married one month after his release. Its been 2yrs now and they have a one year old daughter!!! :) They're doing fine. He has a computer repair shop and they're in the process of buying a house. So, I believe there is joy after being released.
They're my motivation.

Hi,
I got off the phone today with my girlfriend and she has a friend who met her husband first as a penpal. They ended up falling in love and they got married. He got out a couple years ago and they are doing great!!! They got pregnant and he found job. They got pregnant again with twins :) and they are still very very very happy and he still has a job. They bought a house in Texas and a new car also! Its been about 3 years.

Yay!!! I was so happy when she told me this today. Against all odds they made it and they are still very much happily married and he is doing great  !

I didn't know my man before he went in. I met him about 3 years ago thru penpal site. I had never done anything like that before but I'm so glad I did. We wrote for a year, then I went to visit, then I visited all the time. He got out in May of this year to a halfway house. I moved from Ohio to Pennsylvania to be with him. I have NEVER been happier in my life. His home plan was approved TODAY and he'll be home with me by Monday or Tuesday of next week. All my family and friends called me crazy but hey, if this is what crazy is...then I'll be crazy forever...I love him to death and I actually think that the way we met strengthened our relationship....all the hours spent just sitting and talking, long letters back and forth...he tought me patience and we were able to start a relationship without all the physical stuff that gets in the way. I wouldn't trade the experience I've had for anything. If you wanna know anything else, you can PM me if you want. Hope this helps.

Very good of you to tell your story. Not all of us women on here knew our men before prison. Our relationships are different, but they can be the same as if we knew the guys before prison. My man hasn't gotten out yet, but I know he's coming home to me. I met my guy on a penpal site back in '99 when I lived in South Carolina. He has always been here in Arizona. In 2003 I moved to Arizona and we finally met up. I mean if it isn't destiny that we be together then dang.... why would I have had to move 2200 miles away from my home?! Who knows! Love is blind.. so if you're in love... have fun with it!

:D I didn't know Tim before he went in. We were penpals to start with beginning in May of 2000. I lived in AR and moved to OH in Nov. 2000 so we could visit.
He came home on parole the last of Nov. 2003. It's been very good for us. We don't fight, we have so much in common that there haven't been any real problems so far and we don't expect any. Our relationship is a very commited one.
It did take a few months for him to find work as Dec. isn't a real good time to find a job. He started out working through temp agencys and was hired in where he works now about 6 mos. after he started there in 2004. Of course he's not making big bucks but being a felon has it's limitations in employment right after prison with over 10 years missing from his work history. :(
I'm 54 and he's 49 which is probably an advantage in our relationship. He was in his 30's when he went in in 92 so had already matured pretty well. ;)
Communication, commitment and sharing a lot of values in commom helps in any relationship. We really lucked out in ours.

Good luck to ya all and your loves ones! :p
