I have a question about Lawton's Theraputic Community.. My honey was told that when he finishes the program that the court tend to expunge an inmates sentence when they go back for sentence modification, even if they have a lot of time. Does anyone here have any idea how true this is?? I don't want him to get his hopes up.. He has a 15 year sentence and for him to get out after a 1 1/2 in would be AWESOME!!! but he's had so many disappointments in the last 2 1/2 years with this whole ordeal, this could push him over the edge if he was lied too. And I want to forwarn him if it looks like it may not happen. He's a good man.. BTW he was told this by his case manager and his unit manager.
Thankies

My guy is at Lawton too but I'm no where near an expert on this. I thought that the sentence review was at their 1 year mark. That's when my guy had to apply to have his sentence modified.
My guy didn't have any chances to take any classes other than schooling by the time of his review date. He was originally sentenced to 18 years incarceration. Our lawyer said it looked like the Judge was going to agree to modifying it to 3-5 years incarceration (enough time to finish the SO program). But at his court date, the judge saw that my guy didn't have a diploma or really any schooling. So instead he modified his sentence to 14 years incarceration (long enough to do the SO program & go through schooling).
The main thing is to find out IF he has to file for the 120 Judicial Review for his 1 year mark. And then to keep his nose clean, no write ups, don't miss any work, etc.
Best of luck to him.

Hey FRECKLEDGRL,
I have another question for ya? Does your man complain of not getting enough to eat there?? My man has lost 30 pounds in the 45 days that he has been in Lawton. He told his mom today that they don't feed him enough. He is a big eater but he said that the portions that they feed them would not even fill his 5 year old nephew. And I'll have his mom ask the Lawyer about the 120 Judicial Review. I do know that his modification after the program is court recommended so maybe that will help him also. Thanks for the INFO..

Lol, yes my hubby hates the food. He spends the majority of his commissary on food stuffs to make "crockpot mushes" that he likes much better. Lawton is definitely cheap. I will be glad when he's outta there :)
Good luck with the lawyer. I know it's hard to dash their hopes so I've got my fingers crossed you both get good news!

You know. I'd almost bet that they do that on purpose. I know that they make a killing on the Canteen stuff. So if they don't feed them enough at chow then they Have to buy food on Canteen. The sad part is I know that my baby is eating what they serve. He may not like it but he'll eat cause he knows that he has too. Maybe he'll get moved up in levels soon so he can spend more than $20 a week. I may have to get a second job just to feed him.. LMAO but I can't let him go hungry. I'm already giving up my weekly letter so he can eat as it is.. LOL The things we do for love..hehehe

Has he been there very long? If not, he'll figure out the ways to make mushes soon..lol. The only investment he'll need is a crockpot when he's allowed one. I think they run around $15. The guys on my hubby's pod just mix everything up in them. The last one I heard about was soup, crushed bread, and a couple pieces of cut up beef jerky. Sounded nasty to me but he said it was like a casserole. The things he'll do to not have to eat beans :)
And I think you're right about setting it up to make money. Do you know what else they do? The money we pay on collect calls goes into an "inmate entertainment fund". They had the guys vote on what they wanted the money spent on. Their 2 choices were weekend common area movie rentals or family pictures at visiting. The guys chose family pics. These pics are only offered on holiday visiting weekends and are nothing but you and him standing in a corner while another inmate takes a poloroid. What really gets me, is that WE have to pay too! Our money supposedly goes to charity, but why are we being forced to give when it's already paid for???
Complete ripoff. They are punishing us for supporting our loved ones. Ridiculous.
Ok, rant over :)

John's used to making AKA Cassaroles. They did that when he was in County Jail ALOT! But he hasnt been there 60 days yet and is still on level 2. So he can't get one. His celly may have one I don't know. He did tell me that they were supposed to be able to start taking pics out on the yard cause he asked me if I wanted one without his shirt. I said "HELL, YES!!" HEHE But he didn't know when they were gonna start that. His momma was telling me yesterday that Lawton is the worse yard in the state as far as how the inmates are treated. They do have some of the best programs I hear, but to be treated the way that they are just kills me. I know it's prison, but good LORD!!!! I'd almost rather him to have stayed in County. At least there I know that he would have been fed. I used to work at County and my friends who were also trustees took care of him. The fact that he has lost 30 pounds since he got to Lawton just breaks my heart.

:broken: This is an old thread and yet it seems nothing has changed at LCF since the original postings. It is still a very dangerous yard, they still rip you off and they still feed the guys barely enough to survive. I'd like to think if mainstream America really knew what goes inside prisons and how inhumane the conditions were something would be done, but then again...

My son is at Lawton also. It is the worst place he has been to yet. He received a 25 year sentence back in 2004. He has been in Lawton since 2005. He can't receive any programs as he has too much time. The case managers will tell you what you want to know but never believe them nor the guards. They seem nice when you go visit (some of them) but they try to find any way to break your contact with your loved one. Also, if you make it thru Lawton without a write up, it's a miracle. Last Jan I went to visit and they ion scanned me and denied my visit saying I tested for narcotics. The funny thing is I don't do drugs of any kind even prescription. I am subject to random drug tests for my work also and have never been positive. Hard to be when you don't use. But Lawton seemed to think so and made my life difficult. Always when visiting at Lawton to watch what you touch, money or anything that someone else may have touched. Wash your hands repeatedly before you go in to visit. They have tryed to break us but our love is too strong and can never to broke.
