they have nearly 2000 more inmates then they should, this damn place is over crowded, and no wonder they stay on lock down for up to 10 months at a time!

Here's an idea that will help with the overcrowding --------

Send all the Washington guys back to Washington!!! That will clear out about 200 beds! May not be much -- but it's a start!!

The state of WA rents their inmates out to Nevada and Colorado. Currently, and I am not sure of the numbers, there are 200 guys in Nevada and 200 guys in Colorado. With another 200 set and ready to be transferred.

Well I did not know untill I joined here that there is also one in Nevada. Near Vegas i think, but there is also one in Susanville about an hour into california from reno!

Design capacity for cells is 1 inmate per cell. We put 2 inmates per cell and have for many, many years. That is why the percentages are so high in all state prisons.

first off it is crazy up there! Can you maybe answer some questions that i have? I just maybe need an insiders point?

Chris'Poochie, if you go and check the rest of the stats for the other prisons the population is overwhelming. The ones I checked were all over crowded. But observing first hand High Dessert, that place is bad news. Yes I realize it is a prison -- but the treatment the inmates suffer at the hands of the guards is just unreal.
Chris I feel you in your statement "you want your baby outta there" -- those are my sentiments exactly!! But from what I understand they have cut back on the transfering of prisoners for hardhip/health reasons of family members.

well me and Sgt. Ann. sent some messages back and forth and he explained to me that because Chris is a level 4 is the reason why he is not getting moved. Also I talked with his mother tonight and even she told me that the prisons are over crowded with level fours so there is not even enough space for the level fours that are there let alone move them around. I am not sure what level your Man is but that may be part of the reason.

HDSP is horrible. the guards are racist and treat him like an animal. I mean litarally. So with prayer and the grace of God hopefully he can get out of that place soon, he goes up in a month. He has been there for 6 long years...........:blah:

As mentioned above the problem is that Level 4 inmates are out of places they can go. That is why the push to open Delano II. Until the population decreases or available beds increase, Level 4 inmates will have problems getting transfers.

So building more prisons is not the answer.
We need more schools, then prisons. we need more eductional programs at prisons for these men and women can get jobs when there released. there released but can they survive. How the is ca inmate population going t o ever decrease if the resources arent there. Cdc is more of a penal then a correctional system.
The reason is for them not to come back.So there will always be overcrowding until the inmate population decreases. :angry:

My brother did his first two years there and yes they are treated horribly. We were only able to see him twice when he was up there, cuz your snowed out in the winter and they are locked down in the summer. I remember calling prior to visting and there were visits, we rent the car drive the 10 hours to find out, there are suddenly no visits. The people there treat you like dogs, even in town (if you are a minority).

I had the same experiences back in 1997, it only happened one time and I flew to Sacramento that time.
When I stayed there at the town I was treated horrible at the local walmart. And these were employees there. Im just glad he moved.

and us visitors are giving me to these businesses are treated nasty.
