Well, first of all, congratulations Carrie! Getting out of Easterling alone is an awesome thing!!!

Bullock's main purposes are mental health care AND substance abuse treatment. It is the main mental health facility for the psych patients in the system but also gets a good majority of the drug offenders and addicts.

Of everywhere Brian's been it's his least favorite only topped by Easterling - but he said himself a few weeks ago he'd rather be back at Bullock than at Easterling. It's not the greatest but Easterling is far, far worse.

I don't know too much about visitation and some things may have changed, the only things I really remember was that it was held in the gym and you didn't get to walk around much.

We did have a lady here for a while named Pat whose son was there last year and got released and she posted a good deal of info while she was here, she's not been active in a long time tho. If you will do a search in the Alabama forum for "Bullock", and especially "Bullock" and "visitation", you will probably be able to bring up a whole bunch of her posts... I know she posted pretty extensively about how the visiting process goes there while she was here....

Congratulations again - you guys are lucky - I hope I'll be able to say the same about a transfer soon....

Hi Caresworld, my son was at Bullock for almost 2 years. They have changed some since he was there. We never had any problems with getting in to visit because at that time they wasn't as strict as they have got, concerning children. Visiting was from 8:00 to 12:15. They pat you down, have you turn your pockets inside out, they check your shoes. There is 2 or 3 CO's that work up front at the desk as you come in that are real sweet but once you get in the gym to visit you are watched like a hawk. The CO's just sit on ready to jump down your throat about anything to look big in front of everyone. I found visiting there very stressful and some of the CO's there are prejudice towards whites. You are allowed hugging and kissing upon arrival and when leaving unless you are one of quite a few that receive "special" treatment. I saw several couples wrapped around each other and nothing was ever said to them about their behavior. My son was always sorted out at visiting until it got to the point where we all would have words. The Co's at visiting WILL get on your last nerve because they know they can and there is nothing you can do about it.
They have vending machines and also an older blind man and his wife that sold snacks, I don't think they are there anymore, I know one inmate got in some trouble for stealing from them. You are allowed to bring 30.00 in quarters in a clear bag. I have never seen them actually count how much you bring in. They also had a change machine before you enter the visiting area where you could get change. The dress code is pretty much the same with other prisons. I think they have changed some of the visiting rules since my son was there, so it would be best to check if you are not sure of something because I've seen several have to leave.
My son was there for drug treatment, they have some great programs there to offer. He completed 11 of their programs and got his GED. He made alot of friends there and if they had of denied him work release that's where he wanted to go back.
The worst part about the place is most of the CO's there are real jerks. They let their job title as correction officer go to their heads. They also like to show their authority with the inmates as far as hollering and cursing at them. Sometimes when my son would call home I could hardly hear him because of them screaming at the inmates.
This part really burned me up because there was several there I would have loved to have seen away from the place to let them know just what I thought of them.
If you need any more info just PM me.

My husband is at Bullock. He has been there for nearly 4 years. He has never been in any other facility so we do not have any others to compare it to. The visitation is held in a gym and you have to sit where the CO's tell you to. They will not let you walk around and talk with other inmates and they watch you like a hawk. You have to sit with your feet and hands in front of you so they can see you at all times. You can kiss upon arrival and departure. Your loved ones are not allowed in the snack area so you have to get his food and have it ready for him when he comes out if you want to get the best food or it will be picked over.
I was wondering if anyone receiving phone calls from bullock was having any problems with tnetix. We will be talking and our phone calls are got off alot. The voice says Custom Calling Features are not Allowed!! We will be doing nothng to cause this. I think it is so they can make more money because the first minute cost more and they are hoping the inmate will call a second time. My husband refuses to let them win, so he will not call back. They steal from the families of the inmates so I think they should be in prison also!!!!! Has anyone else had problems with this?

Hey Still Married....My husband is at Bullock and last night when he called the phone did that twice to us. it has been happening alot lately. When he was at Elmore it didn't do it as much but since he has been there it is like it comes in spirts. Yeah and about visitation, i liked it better when he was at Elmore because you can sit inside or outside there and there inside has air condition.

Hey Blueyez94,
Has your husband been at Bullock very long? It would be better if we could either visit inside or outside. That would be nice. I do not get to visit my husband alot, because it takes me 4 hours to get there. I would love to go more often, but i just get so tired driving 4 hours there and 4 hours back and then having to wait in line for an hour or longer just to get in.
I wish there was something that we could do about the phone calls. Sometimes he will call several times and we get to talk the whole time and then there are the times when that stupid voice comes on that says "CUSTOM CALLING FEATURES ARE NOT ALLOWED DURING THIS CONVERSATION," He is supposed to call today at 4 p.m. out at his mothers' home. I hope we get to talk the whole 15 mins. I guess i will find out.

Well my husband called today and we got to talk the whole 15 minutes before we were cut off. We did not do anything different from the other times that we were cut off early. It was great to be able to talk the whole time.

I wish that it only took me 2 hours to get to Bullock. I would go more often. I know it is still hard to drive that long but it would at least cut the time in half for me.
What time do you usually get there and has there been any changes to the rules lately? It seems as though every time i go there has been a new rule started. I remember the last time that I went to visit they had fans going also, that helps but i still get hot.
I am going to be visiting my sister in law next week in Oklahoma City so if you do not hear from me that is why.

Hi, this is really weird because my son is also at Bullock, Seems that's where most of the problems are... Is there anything people can do about CO's & other prison officials degrading & just running over a person because they don't like them???? I called there today & the Man I talked to , Well I told him (It sounds like you have a personal something against my son) & he out & said your right it is personal. I also think he catches alot of heat both ways because he is mixed. We have always been treated different, like at Christmas in Clanton when my kids was little, and I went to get TOYS for TOTS, they told me I had to mark black on the app. And I said the kids are white I'm their mother, & because of the skin color the lady told me I had to put the father's race down, I said why should it matter or you gonna give the black kids different from the white, It made me so angry, I did'nt never ever sign up again. Not even that year. I've had NO One to talk to about my son & after reading some of these forums I feel better, I'll be glad when I meet a few of you so I can have a friend that understands... Thanks everyone see you guys tomorrow afternoon... Off to bed now !!! Tandj

Still Married...When is the last time you got to visit? In Jan they made it a rule you can't take more than $20 in. You can't wear flip flop/beach shoes. You can't wear sweat shirt or sweat pants. If you have children that visit, only 5 yrs old and under can wear shorts. Here lately they have been strict on any form fitting shirts/pants. I think it depends on who is working visitation as to what there rules are.

tandjnims...How long has your sone been at bullock? I have heard that some of the CO's there can be hard to deal with or down right ugly...You could go to the warden with it or go to montgomery with it. So far i haven't had any problems (crossing my fingers now).
