Hello everyone. Lucked up on this site and it's very informative. My question is this...Are there any rules, specific guidelines, suggestions, etc. for taking an infant(newborn) to visit her mother in Tutwiler? She was born on 7/7/04, while her mother was incarcerated there. Her mother wants to see her on Sunday during her visitation. Thanks in advance for any info.

every facility seems to have it's own rules in regards to visits with kids.. call the facility and ask them directly if you cant get an answer here. generally speaking i know you need to bring the birth certificate and a picture for them to keep on file, but i dont know anything specific about tut... welcome to pto by the way!

The answer to that is you must bring the child Birthcertificate and her social security card with you for identification purposes. Sorry I have been slow to answer this one. LOL! Didnt even know it was here...

This all depends on the county she is in right now. Some counties wont let you take anything. Some counties dont care as long as it's something that Tutweler will let her have. What county jail is she in? They may let you take her some all white things( 6 ea. of socks, panties, bra's(no underwire or lace allowed), to carry with her, since you wont be able to send anything to her once there, except postal money orders once she has her phone, money and visitation list done and approved(this does take time). She will be in receiving area where she will be processed for health issues and based on her crime they will determine what level of security she will be, which will in turn determine her dorm placement. Was she court ordered to take SAP by the Judge? SAP is a Substance Abuse Program. If she does not have a High School diploma she will be allowed to earn a GED while there.
If you need anything else, let me know either here or in Alabama Forums as my Daughter spent time there for almost 28 months before going to work release and then paroled to the LIFE Tech Facility. We will be glad to help anyway we can.

She is in Lee co. headed to Tutwiler . This is our 1st time dealing with any of this . My daughter has about 4 months left on her sentence , so I'm told . She is a 1st time offender . No programs to complete that we know of right now . This girl has a little college education . She sent a list of things they could have while imprisoned . I don't know which things to take Thursday . I do know she can have shoes , panties , t-shirts , and sports bras . Will she be issued or buy all the other items ? Thanks for your help .

She will only be issued jail uniform sets and a basic hygene kit. The rest she would have to buy from the store which is really really high! Take what you can to county if they will let her have the new stuff, cause it will have to last for the balance of her sentence as she wont be there over 6 months/or Christmas. I would get it to her soon as they will not tell you when she is to be transported by Tutweler. They could wake her up at 4 am and tell her to pack..Her phone priveleges from the county jail will be cut off so she wont be able to call you from there or for a few days from prison.
Good Luck and keep us posted!
