Just wanted to see if anyone had any info on work furlough from CSATF Corcoran. My guy was sentenced to 2 years with half, back on Feburary 1st of this year. He is telling me that he is eligible for this work furlough so could be out of Corcoran as soon as October 1st. Does this really sound right? Also how hard is it to parole to a different county from the one you were sentenced from?

My son is at CSATF.
He turned down the work furlough program, but his understanding of it was that, if you are eligible, 3-4 months to the gate you can go one of 2 places.
One is to Walden House in SF or LA where they give you a room and job skills and get you a job or training. He felt that Walden House was a "set up" after talking to some of the other guys, who told him they saw men get violated right before they were to get out of Walden House. In researching it, I communicated with a few people who had experience with it as friends and family meembers. They said it was a very hard program to complete but that the success rate was excellent IF one could complete it. I provided my son the info they gave, but he still opted not to do it based on other inmates tales of the problems and barriers to success. But what is not good for one person may be good for another....
The other option for WF was "the ranch." He turned it down even though it was hours closer to home because the reports coming back from the guys who went were not good. Apparently they said that "the ranch" was very crowded dorm living with really primitive and substandard facilities. He said that the place was designed for housing guys who were out of the facility all day working, but they were housing all these guys there full time now (not really out working) and it was tense due to the overcrowding and the lack of facilities. Apparently, even getting showers was a problem. He also said that the word from the guys who had gone was that the food was bad (really really bad), and medical care was miles away if something went off and so my son did not feel good about that. He said if something went down and he got shanked, he'd likely be dead before they could get him to a hopsital. Oh, and they did not allow family visits. That was about 6 months ago, when they first opened the ranch for this program, so it may have changed. Hopefully, someone will come along who knows.
As for parolling to a different county...I am not sure, but you can do a search on this site. I have read everything from it's easy to it's hard to parole to another county. Basically, he would need a job and family and housing already set up in the other county and that county would need to be willing to take him.

NO, they don't. my husband is not eligible for the program because he is in PC or sensitive needs yard.
