My son is there. So waht exactly would you like to know?

I'm just wanting to know what it's like. Like if there are any "unique" things about it. I know from past experience with other institutions that the "do's" and "don'ts" can differ. As far as mail, packages, phone calls, etc.

CSATF...what an experience...

Mail---
in one word....S-L-O-W, especially in the summer.
They allow 10 photos, 10 internet pages, one book of self-stick stamps, one pad of paper, 20 envelopes. They do not return what they do not let them have, even if the inmate requests it and the return postage can come off his books. I'm sure it is supposed to be donated if not returned, but I'm not convinced that really happens...it's the nicer stuff that doesn't make it in or come back. Do not send hand-made cards or stationery, I'm sure my hand made stuff was considered too nice for an inmate and some CO is enjoying sending notes to her relatives. LOL!
Well, when I think about it, to be perfectly honest, they did return a quarterly package last year, back when we did our own, so I guess they do return some things (the one and only return I have ever gotten) but the small stuff? Nope. So be sure it is okay to go in and has adequate postage.

Packages---
Quarterly packages are from a vendor. They have the forms on the inside and your man can fill it out and send it to you. We use ACCESS.
Special purchase packages, also from a vendor, take literally months to get approved. Start now if he needs sweats for wintertime. My son started requesting his special purchase package with sweats and winter stuff in October and he got it in March. They kept kicking it back for some little thing. Each time he submitted it, they waited 6 or 8 weeks to kick it back and he would have to do it all again. Frustrating. CSATF is a cold facility in the winter, and my son never felt warm until spring. Have your man start on the winter stuff soon if he needs it.

Phone calls---
MCI, 15 minutes, jerk CO in my son's yard who makes them sign up for phone time and then writes them up if they go over the 15 minutes. Hello...MCI cuts you off after 15 minutes! But if he gets on late (because of the guy before him or whatever), he still has only till the designated 15 minute time slot is up. Every time he calls he says the guys is there watching the clock and signalling to him that he is watching the time. Just jerk stuff. One time, he got a 115 for being one minute over the 15 minutes when he didn't get to use the phone until 5 minutes into his designated time and really had 5 minutes coming, but since it was passed the time he was signed up for, the CO wrote him up.

Visiting---
ress for visiting is a topic unto itself, no sleeveless, no sheer, no shorts, must be knee length skirts, no white, green, gray, blue, tan, t-shirts, anything with logos, no underwires, only one wedding set, one necklace, one set of earrings allowed. Shoes cannot be backless (well without a back strap), no flip-flops.
Visitor processing in my son's section usually moves fairly quick. The CO's are usually hard ass and rude, especially the females, though there have been a couple of nice ones. The rules change from day to day and what was okay on Saturday may not be okay on Sunday. Bring a couple changes of clothes and shoes, just in case. Expect a hassle from time to time. I think they mark who will be the persons to get hasseled that day when we all come in the door in the morning. It makes absolutely no sense. When it is your day, you can go to the car 3 times before they are done messing with you. Just expect it. It sux, but it is the way it works.
The visiting room staff are usually okay and the food is much better these days. The machines make change for the dollar bills. You can take in up to $30 in singles or quarters. It's crowded, but we rarely get terminiated early for overcrowding. The CO's are TIGHT about touching, kissing, etc. but if you follow the rules, you'll be okay.

Howz The Visits In Corcoran 2? Are They Dick Heads? Does Anyone Have Information On F Yard?? Please Any Information Would Be Great??

F Yard is a level II Substance Abuse Treatment Yard. Instead of having jobs like on normal yards they work for 4 hours and attend 4 hours of classes such as Parenting and Group oriented classes.


I don't know about how visiting works there.

Well, on F yard, as Sgt said, they do groups for 4 hours and they have a job for 4 hours.
As for lockdowns...well, they have their share on F yard, but usually they are for a short period of time. In the last year and a half, they have had plenty, but I think the longest was about a week and a half. Usually they are only for 3 or 4 days.

As for visiting..the CO's in the visiting room are pretty nice guys for the most part. I have no complaints there. There is one guy who is only there occasionally who looks like he hates his job and is angry and miserable, but he doesn't mess with anyone (at least not in visiting....) He just sits there sending out his vibes. It has become a little game to try and brighten his day and get a smile out of him. My granddaughter can do it every time. :)

As for visitor processing....well, that can be a different story. Overall, I'd have to say that the CO's conversations between eachother and the staff coming and going and the priority of finishing their coffee or their morning snack always come before attending to the public.
The message is clear that we are second in line to their comfort and convenience and they will get to us when they are good and ready. Until they are good and ready, you are invisible. And I mean invisible....they act like they do not see you at all.
There are a few nice ones who are professional for the most part, and when they finally get to you, they do their job with respect and without insult.
And then there are those few who like to mess with you. They will make you go change your clothes 2 or 3 times, tell you that what you wore yesterday or last week (and is totally respectable and within the rules) is not okay today, that the toys you brought in for your grandkids yesterday are suddenly no longer acceptable...that kind of thing. They can also be rude and speak poorly to you. There is one woman who likes to mess with my dil big time. She talks to her like a drill sargent and when my young inocent dil is trying to accomodate her command she begins to yell at her, "Have you ever done this before? You been here before, right? Then do it!" while the poor kid is doing her best to juggle 2 squirming baby's and get her pockets turned inside out and her shoes on the counter fast enough to suit this lady CO from hell. She is not a nice woman.
One made my daughter in law take off half of her wedding ring set tht she had worn in for over a year, because the rules said one ring. 4th trip to the car. Okay, she says to me with tears in her eyes, do I leave my engagement ring in the car or my wedding ring? becasue she was so flustered she couldn't even think, poor kid. We later were able to determine that a wedding set is allowed, but we didn't go there that day as hey had messed with us long enough that we were already missing nearly an hour of visiting and my dil was over the edge with frustration. Give me a break, none of that was necessary.
Basically, you can find yourself running back and forth to the car to put things in the car, change clothes, etc. all morning long. No lockers there...so be prepared.
It feels like they pick one or 2 visitors to target on any given day and those guys get the hassle that day. If it is not your turn to get hassled, then things go pretty smoothly. If it is your turn to get the hassle, be prepared. Someone always get the hassle. They don't mess with me like they do my dil. I still get my share, but maybe because I am an old lady they tend to do it with less attitude in their voice. I think they like to see the young ones get ruffled. If I could just teach my dil how to not appear ruffled by their moves, she would be okay and we would get through it a whole lot faster. Dressing to a T of what the rules say, and having a change of clothes in the car and wearing very little jewelry is the easiest way to keep the hassle to a minimum if you are targeted. They can only mess with you so much, you know?

thanks everydody for the information in f yard.. what are the rules for the dress codes in there i heard that it's much more than corcoran 1 is this true... what about the phone can they call every time? are they cruel with the hugs and kisses in visiting are they watching you like a hawk?

If you call the 800 number and listen to the info for the visiting rules at CSATF, it gives you the dress code. It is a long list.
Also the link up above that Heidi posted has a list also. Stick with black, non-clinging, no panty line, no see thru, no sleeveless, no skirts or shorts above the knee, little jewelry, and shoes with a back on them and you will be fine. And the no underwire bra goes without saying, right? :) Now march yourself off to the Salvation Army Thrift store and find something, because I am sure you don't have anything like that in your closet...my dil sure didn't... and I guarantee you, it will be something you will never wear on the outside, so why spend a lot of money. :)
