VIENNA - Authorities are looking for a man accused of killing his estranged girlfriend in Dooly County, shooting her mother, stealing a car and robbing a Cordele restaurant.

Warrants have been issued charging Terry Dewayne Nichols, 21, with murder and aggravated assault, said Gary Rothwell, special agent in charge of the GBI's Perry office.

At about 2:30 a.m. Monday, Dooly sheriff's deputies responded to call at a home east of Vienna on Parham Road. They found the body of 22-year-old Brandy Smith; her mother also had been shot but survived, Rothwell said. Several people were at Smith's mother's house at the time, including Smith's children, Rothwell said.

Hours after the shooting, Nichols robbed employees at a Shoney's in Cordele and stole a red 1999 Mustang with plate number 6028AEX, Rothwell said.

Investigators from the Cordele Police Department, Dooly County Sheriff's Office and the GBI are working on the case.

Rothwell described Nichols as Smith's estranged boyfriend.

Nichols served about 19 months in a Georgia prison for a theft by taking conviction and was released in May 2003, according to The Georgia Department of Corrections Web site. The Web site described Nichols as weighing 173 pounds and being about 6 feet tall. He has a tattoo on his right arm.
