I know when my husband was in the next county from me our calls were just $.99. However from the same jail to my old phone (which was long distance) it was $2.50 for the connection and then like .75 a minute. I live in Madison Va and my husband is now at Deep Meadows in Richmond and it is $2.50+ $.26 a minute. You may get a little break but unless it is a local call you're still looking at like at least $7 a call.
I know it's hard baby, and which hurts more, not hearing his voice or those nasty phone bills? Close call as far as I am concerned. Good luck on your move, and remember that you're not alone.

Thanks for all the info Tuff Act! I figured it wouldnt be much cheaper than what im paying now. It looks like I might be putting a lot of over time at my job because there is NO WAY me or my daughter will go without hearing my hunny's voice. You would think that they would make the calls cheaper knowing how rough the family has it on the outside. We have enough to deal with our loved ones being locked up. I think its an absolute outrage how they take advantage of us with the prices of the calls. Anyway, thanks again for the info!

I'd like to know when they are avaliable to call as well, and do they have to call a "land line" or can they call a cell phone #? Also does anyone know if they are allowed to receive a subscription from Virginia C.U.R.E.? I would like to send a subscription to him, but don't want to violate any rules. Has anyone had any trouble with and inmate not receiving their mail,is their mail opened and read, and can anyone tell me if mail is forwarded to them when they are transferred? I know this is a lot of questions but this is all new to me
Thanks!

They are supposed to call a land line, but there are ways around it. I know my boyfriend has subscriptions without a problem. If they are transferred then the mail will be sent back to you (at least that is what has happened to me) yes, the mail is opened...I don't know if they read it line for line, but they can...I know they be reading some off the chain stuff in my letters. He always gets my letters on time. My baby calls me between 9 and 10, around 1-2, then around 7. I know right now they are on lock down and have been all week.
