Cant wait to see my sweetie!!!!!!!:yay: stevensmom 07-20-2004, 12:59 AM Hi, first post here. I am happy to have found this place. I would like to know how long it takes to get from Sacramento to corcoran. I have never been there. I am also nervous because I haven't seen my son in almost a year. I am afraid that my little boy will be gone forever and I am not sure how to deal with it. I am worried I will just cry the whole time, not good for him if I do. Thanks, sorry I babbled so long. crstdrvn 07-20-2004, 08:47 AM Hi stevensmom, Welcome to PTO! Well, the time it takes to get there varies...depending on the time of day, traffic, road work and all and what day it is. I live 2 hours north of Sacramento and go down 99 out of Sacramento (taking 5 is an hour longer). I leave on Friday during the day and come back after visiting on Sunday. Seems quicker on Sunday -- less traffic. Sometimes I can make the trip in 6 1/2 - 7 hours, but the average is about 8. So for you, I guess that would be about 5-6, depending on what end of Sacto you are on. When you are ready to go down there, I will give you the scoop on motels, etc. if you want. It's a long drive and the visiting hours pass way too quickly, so it's worth the motel rate for a night so you can visit the second day too. Yes, you probably will see that your son has grown into a man...that happens in there. My son grew up quickly in there. That was not necessarily a bad thing--though certainly not the way I would choose for him, of course. Prison is a rude awakening, I'll tell you, and it does make a boy grow into a man rather quickly. Believe me, you will not spend the visitng time crying....you will immediately see his need for some light to shine in his life, his need for a smile from Mom, for encouragement, for news of the outside, and for a change from the day to day humdrum of prison life and when you see all that, you will suck it up and make it a special, positive experience for him. That just comes naturally, it's in the job description of "Mom" I think. :) You will save your tears for the drive home.... Visits are soooo important. It gives them hope, it breaks up the monotony, it reminds them of what life is like on the outside. Otherwise, I would imagine, prison life becomes kind of like living in a fishbowl. A nasty fishbowl at that. Hang in there stevensmom, it will get better, honestly it will. It is never fun, and as a mom, my heart is in a million pieces, but the Mom part of me continues to walk on water to at least give him some semblance of hope and normalcy in this nightmare. If he hasn't got Mom on his side in this whole thing, then what has he got? When you see him, you will immediatley realize that he has nothing without your strength. So you will be strong. It won't happen until you see the look in his eyes, but it will happen, believe me. It's that same strength that kept you awake when he was a sick kid, that same she-bear strength that came out when you had to defend him, it's just there, and it will come out. And you will be so very glad it did.... billyspincess07 07-20-2004, 09:15 AM GOOD LUCK!! b-fly 07-20-2004, 08:57 PM Hi stevensmom I live near Folsom. It takes me about 4hrs to drive down there. I usually leave at 4am to be in the car line a bit before 8am. I try to go down on a Sat morning and come back the same day. One day is all I can do. Was hoping to meet someone who travels like I do, maybe can go down more often that way...... Valerie 07-27-2004, 01:05 AM Hi Stevensmom, Welcome to pto!
