Hello everyone! I am so happy because we just found out that my brother's commutation hearing went well. He was approved. Now, it goes to the governor. They are saying that since this is a medical situation, it should take 2 weeks or less! If you aren't familiar with my story, my brother has Stage IV Lung Cancer and the doctors don't think he will live much longer. If you want to read more about it look under the thread, Brother - Lexington CC - Oklahoma - Terminal Cancer- Help me, please (http://prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65923) .

Thanks to all who have given prayers and support! We still have a hard road ahead of us, but Jimmy is going to get to come home!

How wonderful...yet sad that you even have to deal with this. Give Jimmy a big hug from me and I'll continue to keep him in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks everyone! It is so great that he is going to be able to come home.

Someone asked how he is doing. Well, emotionally, he is doing great. He has such a positive outlook and he is just so happy that he is going to get to come home. His attitude and emotional well-being are certainly a big factor in how well he is doing physically. He has his pain management under control. He seems to be doing very well on the regimen he is on right now. His latest chemo treatment has shrunk the tumor in his jaw enough to open his mouth a little. He can stick part of his tongue out between his teeth now. So he can eat some small bits of food that isn't pureed. He has the feeding tube which will stay for the remainder of his life. He takes in 8 ensure cans per day. He can either drink these or put them in his feeding tube. He laughs about that because he doesn't really like the taste so he can just put them directly into his tummy. He has such a good sense of humor still. He looks for the silver lining in all of this which is great. He has gained a few pounds back. He is up to around 140 now. They told us that he probably would just continue to lose weight and wouldn't be gaining any because of the cancer, chemo, etc. But - he proved them wrong on that one. His prognosis is still poor with survival of less than 6 months expected. There has been no significant change to the cancer activity. We are all still praying. We don't know if tomorrow his condition might make a turn for the worse. But for each day of pain under control and a smile on his face we are blessed. The other great thing is that even at Stage IV Lung Cancer, he doesn't have to be on oxygen at this time. Again, it could progress to that at any time, but for now, he is getting enough on his own. So, that is also a good thing. We don't know how fast this is going to move once he gets home and we don't know how long he will be able to stay at home without being in hospice or something like that.

I keep praying that the Drs. provided to him by DOC are wrong and that it isn't inoperable after all. However, I know this is wishful thinking. I do believe that miracles can happen, though. I pray every day that one will happen here. You just never know.

Does anybody know how long it takes for them to release someone who has been approved for commutation once the governor has signed? We are still waiting for Jimmy to come home. I don't think the governor has signed yet, but should any minute because it was supposed to be within two weeks of receiving it since it was a medical commute. Once he signs, do they just call and say come get him or do they call and say they will release him in a few days or what? We are all getting a little antsy and just would like to know what to expect.

Oh - if you haven't been reading my threads, my brother who has terminal cancer was commuted to time served a couple of months before his sentence would actually end. His hearing was July 16.
