My husband has been in reception at San Quentin since June 8, 2004. I know there are no phones there but yesterday I returned home from an all day trip to find three collect calls from him on my answering machine. Does this mean he is mainlined? I also got a letter today from him saying he was still in reception as of July 14, 2004. He did say his cell mate has a job which I thought didn't happen in reception so can some one exsplain why he was able to call? I haven't left the house today fearing I might miss his call again. Thanks everyone:)

Hi Suez
From what I know reception is a minimum of 60 days unless he transfered from another facility where he did some reception time. Cause the classification process is really slow. Are you sure the collect calls were from Quentin??
The calls I recieved from donovan always came up in caller ID as ATTDBTCG. I don't know if that's state wide
Anyway I hope you hear from your man soon but honestly it's too early being 1 month + in.
Maybe someone with a Man in Quentin that's recieved a call and has caller ID can post what came up on caller ID to help you.
goodluck

I wouldn't have believed it myself but after listining to my answering machine 3-4 times I know it was him. This is his first time in prison and has only been there since last month but he did call me at least three times yesterday. It was an MCI collect call from San Quentin prison and he sayed his name and begged for someone to pick up. No one was home. I know his voice and I'm sure it was him not just a friend making the call. The crazy thing about all this is I have a collect call block on the phone how he got through is what amazed me.

I got calls from my husband in reception. He got a job (like your hub's cellie did) and they earn priviliges when they do, like 2 ten min calls a week. I know this isn't everywhere, but I have heard of it at other reception centers. (mine is not in SQ)

Hi Suez
Well it sounds as if you did get a call from your man. Hopefully he'll get the time to call you back. I know how nice it was to hear my mans voice after 70 days.
Mrsmalcom is correct I have heard that if you get assisnged a job you can earn phone privlages so that may be the key.
Anyway best of luck in gettin a call
