i know this is old but it is still current. I just thought i would post this for you to see a little about the medical copayments ect.
January 1, 1998, a state law went itno effect that requires the department of criminal justice to collect a fee from each offender who requests a visit to a health care provider
you will be charged a $3.00 fee for each health care visit that you request. You make such a request by completing and submitting a sick call request form, by requesting a staff member to provide assistance in accessing health care services or by reporting to the health care facility and requesting health care services as a walk-in patient.
The fee will be charged to your trust fund account. If there is not enough money in your trust fund account, the law requires that 50% of each deposit to yoru fund be applied to the amount owed until the total amount is paid.
You will not be charged for health care visits that are for:
-an emergency or life-threatening situation
-referrals to outside medical facilities or health car providers outside the unit
-follow-up services recommended by health care staff
-chronic care (including communicable diseases such as HIV, AIDS, and TB)
-prenatal care
-health screening and evalutations related to the diagnostic and reception process
-health care services necessary to comply with state law and regulations, including physical exams
-any health care services initiated by the dept; or health care services for offenders incarcerated in tx under the interstate corrections compact or under agreement with another state where such agreement precludes a co-payment
***you will not be denied health care if you do not have money in your trust fund account to pay the fee
