I have a pen pal on death row in San Quentin and I wanted to send him some books can anyone tell me if this is allowed and if I can send them from like Amazon.com? I don't want to ask my pal, I want it to be a surprise. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Patty

Hi!

I have a pen pal on DR in San Quentin as well. I have sent him a book via amazon and it was no problem!

Take care,
Anja

I'm sure you can but it doesn't hurt to call and ask if HE can receive books.

Hello :) I also have a friend on DR at San Quentin. And I send books often. I use amazon.com most of the time (Free shipping on orders over $25) or Barnes and Noble. M. has told me that I can send books from anywhere as long as there is no personal message inside and they are new and they are sent in some sort of company packaging. I have even sent a book I bought myself using an envelope I got from the book store. As long as it comes from some sort of "organization" it should be fine. The prison is used to inmates getting books from all over...all kinds of organizations, religious groups, etc...

I generally stick to Amazon though...

Yes, you can send books. However they need to come from the vendor directly. I was also cautioned by my man not to send more then one at a time. More then one slows the delivery process down and it can take up to 3 weeks for the inmate to recieve it... so that's just a little something to think about.
