Thank you so much everyone for the nice replies. I do have a couple questions though. Garold told me that he was told I would know where he would be placed before he would on OTIS tracking. Does anyone know if this is true or not? We are both worried that he will get sent someplace far away and won't be able to see his son that often then so the wait is killing us :( ! Plus, if he goes far away and there is a university nearby I will transfer from my community college to there, but I will have to know soon so I can start on the paperwork for transfer. I wish it didn't take so long, but the prisons are so overcrowded my boyfriend told me about one guy that was classified and placed but they didn't have room for him yet so they gave him a tv and visits right in the Egeler Center till they could transfer him! If there is any more information anyone found about the "day for a day" thing, I'd be so grateful too. :) Garold heard a lot of prisoners talking about Jennifer Granholm doing away with Truth in Sentencing and/or giving prisoners their "good time" back to clear out the prisons some, but I haven't been able to find any info on it. Gosh, I'm longwinded. It's good to have people to talk to though who understand the situation. No one else really feels what I feel though they express their apologies for the situation. Hope all is well! Smiles!

Hi, Andrea. Welcome.
Actually, they won't post his destination on OTIS until he's actually arrived there because they wouldn't want you to know ahead of time and then break him out enroute. He should be able to call you right away from his new place though, if he's been able to call you from Egeler.
What part of Michigan are you in? As far as moving closer to him, that could be risky because the average prisoner in the MDOC system gets moved every seven months. Sometimes it's cause of level changes or discipline, but sometimes you have no idea why they got moved.
I'm pretty sure the day for a day thing/changing truth in sentencing is just another rumor, though I'd love it to be true too. :)
I hope you get to see Garold soon. Have you sent your visitor application in yet?

Andrea, I heard something about that too from Robert. Robert even told me that the Warden at Egeler "supposedly" said that they are going to be releasing alot of parole violators and etc because of over crowding by the end of the year or somewhere near there. Who knows whats true and whats not. I haven't really been able to find anything about any of this either. I guess we just wait and see. Good luck to ya! :)

Actually James was told the same thing at Kinross that they will be releasing parole violators that fit certain criteria and wont have to have their parole hearings, they will just get a letter. He was told 1700 in Michigan. Im praying he will be one of them if this is true, and it was a member of staff that told him about this. So who knows, I can't find anything anywhere about it though James said their was an article about it in a newspaper in Michigan called the Lansing Journal and he said he read it with his own eyes, but I searched threw their archives online and couldnt find it. So I guess its all part of the waiting game.

Really? Mmmhhh, could there actually be something to this? Robert is in on a parole violation, but his original charge back in 1998 was considered violent. (No real weapon was used though) That would be incredible wouldn't it? I don't want to get my hopes up though, cuz we all know how these things go. And, even if it was true, I don't know if Robert would qualify either. But, hey this is better then bad news right? :)

Yeah, it will definitely be hard if I get my hopes up on the truth in sentencing and/or day for a day thing, so I'm not putting much stock into it until I actually find some substance to back it up. I've been working on it, though. I have found out that Governor Engler has commutated 17 prisoners, mostly drug lifers, since the beginning of this year. They are mostly drug lifers because his not-very-well-planned-out drug lifer law is also overcrowding the prisons. Guess he could have thought about that better, huh? Anyways, it's positive that he's commutated all of those prisoners because maybe then there is some substance to what we've all been hearing, but again, I'm not going to get my hopes up. For now, I'm just sticking to the idea that he's going to be in there for at least four years, so I'm prepared for the worst. Thank you all for the help with everything, I really appreciate it! Smiles!
