Today my husband Eric went in and spoke with his parole officer here in
Northern California and requested a parole transfer back to San Diego where
we came from in the beginning. To our surprise, it is not a problem. When
you ask for a parole transfer from the county of committment, there is alot
of paper work and you have to be excepted to that other county. However
when you want to return to the county in which you resided last, the new
parole unit automactically grants a return. This is called a " Courtesy Parole
Transfer". The new county has no problems with returning you back. And
we are both pleased.. :) So if you don't see me much on line in the next few
weeks, this is why. We are packing it up and moving home!!! Suzi
Once you get to your old parole unit area, all you have to do is report.
End of story...

Yes it is true, the other State has to be willing to except the new parolee.
First off in order to either transfer to one state or county, the parolee needs
to have 3 important things, family, housing and employment. California is
pretty tricky to this, but there can be ways of getting around the system.
Also you will need to find out if the State in which he wants to be paroled
too, is open for a new parolee. Starting with his counselor is good, but if
he was on parole before, then you or him would have to contact the last
Parole division where he was. And request an out of state transfer. You have
to have good reasons too. Just because you want to transfer to another
state, isn't good enough for State Parole in California. If you are married to
him and you have children then I would suggest that is made clear with
State Parole. You will need to provide to the Parole Division, a marriage license, rental agreement or ownership of your residence and a verifyable
employer. State Parole could care less if you are a girlfriend or a fiancee.
That doesn't count. And sadly enough that's just the way it goes. Hope this
info is helpful to you, and if I can help you again just holler. Suzi

Well we are gonna kick it again for a minute, plans have changed, but Eric's
parole officer came by the other day and asked if we were gonna go back.
Personal issues are keeping us from returning home, but that's ok too. His
parole officer said " when you are ready to go back just let me know", so
that is always a positive option...Just thought ya all would like to know...

Hi there ladies,
I'm new to PTO and have so many questions butthe most important of them all is how can I get my husband who is an inmate at ironwood state prison transfered to New York City where I live??? I've always lived in NYC and have to travel across the globe to visit him every copuple of months. We have our family visits in California but we are so anxious to find out of a way to even start the process in hopes to have him transfered from CA to NYC. How can I go about that? My husband has spoken to his counselor and the counselor syas he has no idea how to get the paper work for that. Do any of you know where I can get some more information on these types of transfers???
Thanks so much for your time and efforts, good luck to you all

My first question to your situation would be is this the first time he has been
in prison? Second, when is he up for parole? If he had a parole officer prior to
going to prison, then it may or may not be all that difficult to get a out of
state transfer, however it really depends on the Parole Unit and his Parole
Officer. Normally when requesting a transfer, the paperwork should be started
at least 6 months prior to release. And also NYC has to except him to begin
with. How long have you been married? The 3 keys to successful parole
regardless of where he paroles to is Family, Employment and housing. Why
housing last, I do not know. Does he have a job waiting for him? One thing
no county or State wants is a new parolee that will be sitting idle for any amount of time. I would check first with DOC in NY in the event that they
have open enrollment. It would be unwise to start paperwork in the event
that the other state doesn't have room for another parolee. Some counties
here in Ca only except certain types of parolees, for example San Luis Obispo
County here in California will only except 2 types of parolees, the first being
you committed out of that county, or secondly, sex offenders, and I think
that being that there is a State Mental Hospital in that county. If in the event
you are not successful in getting a transfer for him to NYC what is the possibility of you moving to his location? My best to you and yours. Suzi

Thanks so much for your response. We have been married for 4years and I have always lived in NYC. He has been in CA prison since 1995 ans will be released in 2015. What we were trying to do is have him move closer to home while he finishes his sentence. That's the kind of transfer I'm taking about. Do you know anything about that?? Thanks so much in advance for your help!!!!

At this stage of the game, Ca is not transferring any inmates so they can be
closer to their family. The only way a inmate can transfer is medical related
only. Seeing how his out date is 2015, and that is a long way out, I can't
advise you on this...Sorry. I will do some research on this and see what I
can come up with. But I haven't heard nor seen any CA inmate being transferred to another state in quite some time, unless of course the inmate
had another case in another state. Suzi

I know that his restitution fees have to paid off. I had spoken to a parole officer actually he was the officer of the day. He told me that his cc1 or counselor has to get the paper work started and not to let anyone tell me it's not possible he said it's bull. He has seen it happen. Anyway he is still in reception waiting to transfer to main line. Before that he saw his counselor I called them reception counselor since he will have another one once he hits main line. I called his counselor about a week ago and she is sorry to stay dumb. She told me that she remembers him telling her something like that but he has to take it up with his parole officer once he paroles. She could've gotten the paper work started but doesn't remember plus she did what she had to do and passed it on to supervisor. She doesn't even know how much he owes in restitution. I called the victim services i don't know the full name of the office, but that is where you pay the fee's,I spoke to a very nice lady and she stated that the counselor is probably new and i should wait until he hits mainline and talk to his new counselor. Since he is suppost to go to main line his records are on him and maybe that is why his counselor couldn't tell me more. My husband has no family out there. She also said that they can transfer out of state right out of prison. Now my husband thinks that he may not make it to main line because he only has until may. Which means that he won't get another counselor, I am so bumbed. When we lived in cali we had nothing we rented a room well my mom offered that we can stay with her so i left and he said he will transfer from right out of prison that is one of the reason we moved plus for my husband to get away from all the drugs. How can i go over the counselor, or can i talk to her supervisor? Please i need to know if there is someone else that i can talk to maybe another counselor? This is his second time in prison and his parole officer he had was gonna get the transfer started but he went to prison. He only has drug related issues.

My boyfriend needs to be transferred to TX after he gets out. There is paperwork that you can get to start the process for xfer 6 mos before he is paroled. Also you need to talk to his attorney and maybe get a hold of someone in the state you are in telling them that he has no one there and that his family is where you are. We contacted his attorney, he has talked to his counselor in mainline who is doing what is needed, and we contacted people in the state of TX. We don't know if it will be immediate after he gets out but we have at least started the process and he won't be out for 11mos. Good Luck!

My husband doesn't have an attorney and he is still waiting to get to main line. He release date is sometime in May. So he doesn't have that long to go. But if we could get the process started so incase he won't be able to transfer right from prison we would have atleast got something started. Thank you very much for you information. I really appreciate it.
