Hi everyone,

My honey told me he should be going to medium secuirity in 6 months or so, and he has some say as to which one (of course we know no guarantee of getting his choice), so he told me two cities that have them and he wanted me to find out which one was closer to me. He wouldn't tell me anything more about them; I wanted to know if there was any difference between them as far as him being "better off" in one than the other, but he said prison is prison. Well I don't believe that. Do you guys know anything about the medium security prisons in WI?

Also, for anyone who has had someone go from maximum to medium, what is the difference between them, as far as what it is like for them inside and what it is like to visit?

Thanks so much to anyone who can give me some info :)

Andie

Max to Medium Security is primarily the level of security at the institution, the greater the amount of opportunities, programs, visits, etc. However, my experience is the difference is not a huge change that accounts for major adjustments. What two cities did he tell you about? I know quite a bit about the prison system here in Wisconsin considering that i use to work for them. You can pm me if you want specifics and I can help you out. Hope that helps. And yes prison is prison, but there are some differences one can take note of. Let me know if you want distance from where you are from and as well my opinions on the different places.

The only medium facility I experienced was Jackson Correctional in Black River Falls. It was nice for visiting compared to the max joints he's been in.
Right now in max he only gets to leave his cell during work or rec. At some mediums you get a little more time out of your cell and Jackson had a dorm like room that he started in.
I'd be interested to know what two places he mentioned.

My son is at Kettle Moraine Correctional in Plymouth. It is also nice for visiting, you can have your visits inside or outside. My son said they have different units and there are about 100 guys to a unit. He shares a room with 1 other guy and you have your own key to your room. Each unit has a day room where you can watch TV or play games. You can also go ouside any time you want just to sit and read or whatever. They have a nice library and organized sports like right now they have a softball team you can join. All in all he said it's not the worst place to be, it has it's good and bad points but I guess it is still prison. Karen
