View Full Version : What Is Up With The Mail
GANGSTA'S BOO 07-12-2004, 05:41 PM I try to stay within the prision guidelines to make sure my baby gets everything he needs in there. But what is up with the co's. It's like they dont want them (prisioners) to have any piece of home. I send my man 12 page letters that take me all day to write, and instead of carefuly opening them, my man says he gets the letters all ripped up to the point that he doesn't know what part of the page goes with what. i started writing the number of the pages on the top and bottom, but it doesn' the help. I've also noticed that some personal pics that I sent to him, which were never recieved, were never sent back. Anyone else noticed this?
they make me so mad!!
mrsdragoness 07-12-2004, 06:40 PM I think in cases like this a well worded letter to the prison warden asking why this is happening to your letters is appropriate!
Tears_N_Texas 07-12-2004, 07:38 PM Hi Gangster Boo
The same thing has been happening to me. He is missing like 3 letters from me all sent over a week ago. I don't want to write the warden and cause him to have an even harder time but this is the only was we can communicate through the week. When I saw my baby yesterday he thought I was mad at him since he only got one letter last week. He normally gets 3 or 4 from me a week.
GANGSTA'S BOO 07-13-2004, 05:45 AM The same happens to me. My boo starts to complain saying I must have been too busy to write him. I always want to write him, sometimes 2/3 times a day. I hate pouring my heart and soul, plus ink and stamps into these letters for the guards to act like they dont exist. If this continues to happen, especially with pics missing, Im going to take it to the warden
d_anaya 07-13-2004, 06:44 AM thats so messed up. i send a letter every day and he asks sometimes "have you wrote lately" and im like thinking that every night at mail call, he gets a letter. i went to visit and he hadnt got any mail in like a week and a half, so i talked to someone atthe front and asked about my mail. some co walks out and hands me this stack of letters. he "couldnt" give me a reason. said he wasnt the guy to tlak to. (this was all in county by the way, before he got sentanced) but i sent them back one by one. he ended up getting them all finally.
i hate this now though that hes out of county and in a prison, they close their letters for them and open incoming ones. it just really sucks that they could do whatever they please with our stuff. and our stuff is very important. i wish they had more consideration. i know exactly how you feel boo. i hope it gets better for you;)
Alvarado 07-14-2004, 07:39 PM What is going on ladies? I use to get a letter every day or every other day, The last letter he sent took 14 days to get here! Now that's from polunsky to Ft. worth. I sent Mauro many letters before the 29th of June the day he was to be exucuted, telling him I was on my way I'd be there by Monday, you know He did not get that letter until I was there in livingston in front of him, visiting on the 29th!!!!!!!! I said what's that? after the guard had handed him a package, he said it's a letter from you. I said well "I'M HERE"!!!!!!!!
That's so not cool!
please stop the mail madness someone
yours truly Denise Alvarado
rosita 07-14-2004, 11:13 PM There is a definite problem with the mail @ Polunsky. Like them being there is not problems enough already. Kyla, PM if you can. Something needs to be done. I am getting ready to send a letter to the warden & the Ombudsman department in Huntsville.
Rosita
There is some civil suits in place at the moment, from numerous inmates about the mail system. I will let you know how it all goes.
I know with the mail, I recieved 6 letters in 3 days this week, some that were written on the 30th June, and then one on the 7th (that would catch me up), plus there are a few strays, I normally get weeks after. My friend got 12 of my letters dumped on him in one night, and didnt know where to begin, and they were all sent out different days, we write everyday. I was getting his mail, why arent you writing and answering my mail, then the letter I got today (the 7th July dated), he was telling me how they all arrived at once. It is crazy!!!
Rosita, I will look into who we can contact later tonight, and PM you. Perhaps if we all write letters, that are having mail problems in Texas, we may get some feedback, while these civil suits are pending. I expect my mail to be a little delayed coming overseas, but you are in Texas, you should get your mail, at least within 3 days tops.
rosita 07-15-2004, 12:22 AM Thanks Kyla. This is just too much. Every facet of their life that the prison can mess with they do. Now my mail is all being held for days in some prison mail limbo. Then it all arrives on the same day. Just like they do the inmates. Yes it use to arrive in three days. There really is no excuse for this type of harassment, retaliation or just plain incompetence!!
Thanks for being there Kyla!
Nemesis 07-15-2004, 12:30 AM Kyla I have the same problem as you know i am in Australia too and I write to my husband (in FL) every single day, he tells me he goes weeks without getting anything and often gets like 15 letters dumped on him at the same time. I know the mail doesnt take THAT long, plus I cant see why they would all get there at the same time. Also his letters to me are very erratic, just the other day I got a letter he wrote me while I was still pregnant, our baby is 2 1/2 months old. It is very frustrating to say the least.
Nemesis
Congratulations on the little one :) I didnt know that. We were having problems here in Australia, when the mail went on strike, and werent clearing out our mail every day, over a month ago, but it went back to normal. I have no idea why the mail is so delayed, I was thinking it was because I was in a rural area, but it doesnt seem to make any difference :(. I guess they just sit on all the mail, I am not sure, but its annoying, when you know you have sent mail, and you get a letter asking why you havent written (when you have wrote everyday), and you are writing to tell them you have written (and they get that mail when?).
Its all frustrating, if I send mail to the US to anyone else, it arrives there in 6-7 days, but when it goes to a prison (and I know I have to allow some extra time)... you would think it would get to them in 10 days tops, but noooooo, and when it does get there quicker, its with ALL the mail that is dumped on them. :( So much for trying to plan a letter a day.
ozziegirl 07-17-2004, 12:02 AM Ive had trouble with mail from day 1 five mths ago. I too am in australia, my man is still in an Arizona County jail awaiting trial. I always expect a little more delay but like Kyla says......it all over the place. All up I have only gotten 40%of his letters to me. He has gotten a bit better percentage from me but still no where near what he should. Last letter I got was couple days ago that he wrote on the 7th July......prior to that was a letter written on the 27th June. He has written heaps in between and from past experience I wont see any of them. He is able to seal his mail at this stage and when they arrive to me they untouched. Whether or not they are just taking them and because they opening them and there nothing in them they can use against him they not then able to forward. From what I understand about mail, unless they have just cause to open it, they not allowed to in county. If Im wrong on this can someone let me know. Hope something can be done about the mail situation in US prisons and jails cause it sure does suck. All the best to everyone.
Dre's Lady 08-21-2004, 05:47 AM In a situation like that, I'd contact the warden and advise him/her whats going on. They are not allowed to tear into the letters.
richie'sgirl 08-22-2004, 11:10 AM I have never posted before,so will have to do a proper introduction later, but just wanted some advice please. My hubby to be was on D/R in Graterford,I am in England.I send him loads of junk in the mail, but I've just got back an envelope they rejected because of a drawing my son did for him, which is typical, but on the envelope, they have written stuff like'Hi crackhead Richie' and where I've written D/R on the address, they have crossed it out and written 'Life prisoner' on it,knowing full well,he had his sentence vacated and he is at county now being resentenced. That could have caused a lot of upset if he'd been sentenced to death again and then come back to find stuff like that written all over his mail.Should I call the warden about it?What if they've written all over the mail waiting for him in his cell?
Lady Wabbit 08-22-2004, 01:17 PM My husband is at Hughes Unit in Gatesville, Texas. They've stopped receiving mail on Saturdays. When I try and the warden he's always "Just stepped out the office" and he never returns my calls. And of course he's never there on the weekends when I go to visit.
ShannonL 08-22-2004, 03:15 PM Brant has received letters from me that were ripped because when they sliced them open, they sliced through the letter, too. So he'll get my letters in like 6 pieces. What a pain.
rays_babygirl 08-22-2004, 03:51 PM I have never had any problems with my mail to Ray but he did tell me that if the COs don't like a certain person they do little stuff like mess with their mail to get back at them. Yeah some of the COs or should I say most of the COs are dirty in there. The best thing to do is write the warden and tell him what is going on and also tell your man to talk to the warden and show him how his letters look.
oceancove 08-22-2004, 04:04 PM Hi, well I just talked with my son for the first time in a couple months and he just got mail yesterday which I sent 5 weeks ago!......He's been moved 6 times so far in reception due to overcrowding...In San Quentin they were so overcrowded that they had some inmates in the Chapel -- believe that! Anyhow he still doesn't have his property...which has all his addresses and stamps etc. for 3 weeks now...hasn't been to commissary once yet in 2 months and only saw outside 4 times in 3 months for 15 min each time......
He's in for abalone poaching.... a level I and right now at High Desert with the level 3 and 4 inmates...guess I should be glad he isn't going outside....
The system stinks! I am trying to find out a place where I can put his address up for penpals...I still can't figure out how to start a thread here there is no start thread under the usercp....
I guess there isn't much we can do about the mail...if you've got 9000 inmates like in Quentin the mailroom has got to be horrible place to be in...
I don't think complaining would do much good because they do what they want to anyhow, sometimes better not to rock the boat, as hard as that is for me to do I"m biting my tongue these days.
Jeanne:angry:
IceBlueSparkle 09-01-2004, 03:40 PM I feel your frustrations. Mail is my only way of keeping in touch. His mail gets to me in five days...California to Canada. But when I send him mail he's getting the letters anywhere from 14-25 days after I've sent them. Luckily none of them have gone missing yet and he seems to get all the "treats" I've sent. It very maddening how long things take !!!! We write whenever we feel like it and not on a letter to letter basis to keep the mail between us flowing... It gets frustrating because letters never arrive in order...and a weeks worth will arrive at once and then nothing for another week.
I try to understand that they have thousands of letters a day to check for contraband...but it still really isn't that consoling !! Certainly there must be a more efficient way of doing things !!!
It seems to me that everything is a big ordeal...from getting a visitor application approved to dealing with MCI...etc....
Grrrrrrrrrrrr...just venting :)
Francesca 09-01-2004, 07:26 PM The system stinks! I am trying to find out a place where I can put his address up for penpals...I still can't figure out how to start a thread here there is no start thread under the usercp....
Ocean
I've just dropped you a PM on the pen pal issue.
take care

Milady 09-01-2004, 07:33 PM We've learned that is it best to put name and address on the top of each and every page...I received an empty envelop one day...at the places where they cannot seal their own mail, you are lucky if it gets sealed! The post office told me that if the address is on the page of paper that falls out they will attempt to still send it.
sherriehicks 09-03-2004, 01:45 PM It has been a good while since I have been able to post. My computer was hit by lightning 2 months ago and I am just now back online.
I too am having mail problems. My son is at Anthony Correctional in WV. I write him at least 2 letters per week, at the beginning of his sentence when he wrote it would take 3 days max. to receive a letter and now that his is on the down hill slide out, for some reason it is taking 9 - 12 days. I just received a letter today, telling me that he recieved a letter on 8/28 dated 8/1, I am in SC. I mail him a money order once a week so I am wondering if the funds are also being held? How could I find this out? There is no reason for these delays!
After reading all of your posts, I gather the best way to find out information on this problem is to express them to the WARDEN Right?
It is great to be able to once again post. Wishing all a good day and THANKS in advance for any information you my offer.
2nice 09-03-2004, 02:55 PM I'm in England too... My man is in Atlanta. It used to take approx 5 days for me to get his mail & vice-versa, but now it seems to take about 1.5-2 weeks!!
I've just got back an envelope they rejected because of a drawing my son did for him
Now this is real messed up! My son is always sending my man drawings and scribble (as he cant write properly yet), but they still give it all to him! I would most definately complain to the Warden... Something needs to be done!!
BONITA_NC 10-10-2004, 08:17 PM yes i know what you are all going through. It is going on like this in NC. I sent my husbands wedding band like they said and it got stolen. So I had to get another one and I put everything on it the post office would let me. His letters have been sent unreadable and the ones I send have been torn to shredds. It is not fair. Just because they are in there, it doesn't make them non- human.
I love my husband so much, and he got a bad judge. This is crazy.
