My friend since first grade, has been on Texas Death Row for 15 years now, he was 17 when he comitted his violent crime.
I hate what he did! with a passion!
But I also knew the "boy" before Texas Death Row new him only as an animal!
That doesn't make it right, but it makes it a hell of lot more able to understand! The guy that I set next to in class would not have done that, If drugs where not envolved, his childhood was surronded by them at home, he has grown into a wonderful man since housed at D.R. We are very close even though I'm married w/ 3kids, I make him an important part of my life, that carries out with him until the end of this Journey. But Praying hard for the U.S. Supreme Court to change juvenile exucute law in October session.

Alvardo,

Thank You, it is good to see that you are sticking with your friend.

Things happen in our lives, that we do not understand or can explain why, even if do know why - do we really want to understand?

What I am trying to say that it is wonderful you are standing with him, for so many are abandoned by their families and friends. Hang in there and stay strong for your friend.

I too am praying that the Supreme Court does away with the DP if not for everyone, then for those who commited their crime as a juvenile, and someday abolishs the DP all together.

Alvarado, just wanted to say thank you for posting as well. My guy was 22 when he went in for his violent crime, and is now 36 and will be 42 when he gets out if not paroled sooner. Much like your friend, his crime is one that never would haved happened had it not been for drugs & alcohol. I know how blessed I am that he does not sit on Death Row as well as his case could have easily been a capital one.

I too hope the winds of change will turn in your friend's favor... glad you came to PTO and hope to see you around some more, thanks for sharing with us...
