Ok Check this out. I understand at the Clemmens unit in Brazoria Tx has a strict warden. I called to see about my visit in January. After spending 300.00 on a plane ticket plus rental car and motels, all I can have is two 2 hr visits. It doesnt matter that I am 1200 miles away. My husband hasnt seen anyone since August and wont again for a while. I thought all prisons allowed a 4 hour visit for traveling over 3oo miles. I used to be able to get 8 hrs. 4 one day and 4 the next untill they moved him. My husband wrote and said none of the wifes have got a speacial visit. I thought family interaction was suppost to be important to our loved ones.???? The lady I talked to in classification said the probability of getting a longer visit was 0. To ask for the deputy warden and ask when I get there but they always just say NO. Has anyone else heard about this unit being so strict.

Donna,
My son is at the Clemens Unit in Brazoria. There's one lady who has been very helpful. She told me when my mother (KC's grandmother) come to visit from Ohio, she would be eligible for a 4 hour visit. We just have to have prior approval. KC is in the youth offender program at that facility, but I don't think that should make a difference. Have you tried talking to someone else about this? Take care. PEACE!!

donna i am sorry to hear that this is happening to you. i just looked in the rule book about special visits. It says that permission for visits of a maximum of 4 hours may be obtained throught the warden or his designee for those residence is 300 or miles in distance from the unit. It is sad but i guess it is up to the warden. i can't imagine why they would be like that especially when you are coming from so far away. like sherron said this is texas and do what they want. i hope that things end up working out for you! i just read something else: "offenders wanting to have a special visit shall submit requests in writing to the warden". did he already do that?

Yes Texas does do what they want . I will write him and tell him to request a special visit. I dont get it is all. Cyndie whats the name of that nice lady. Maybe she would be more helpful. My husbands all bummed. He thinks its to much and to far to go for such a short visit but Im going anyway. 4 hours is 4 hours even if it takes two days to get it. Id travel a thousand miles just for 10 minutes. Ladies thanks for your reply. Sherron hello how are you? Im hoping things are going better for you. Who else could I talk to about this? I dont get far with anyone at the unit. They are nice and polite but arent telling me what I want to hear I guess.... Ha Ha........

DONNA- IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD STAY ON THEIR REAR-ENDS EVERYDAY, IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES TO GET YOUR 4 HOUR VISIT! CAUSE THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!!!!! AS FOR ME ---NO GOOD AS USUALL!!!!! ANOTHER IDEA, TRY POSTING IN THE LEGAL HELP FORUM AND SEE IF ANYONE GIVES YOU AN ANSWER. OR TRY SENDING DAVID A PM, HE KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THIS TEXAS SYSTEM-----HOPE THESE HELP------SHERRON

you know donna i thought of something. i am not sure that it will make a difference but hell it is worth a try right? contact the ombudsman's office. they are soppose to Act as a liaison between TDCJ and the general public. When i emailed them before they asked me to make sure that in the subject line i wrote my husband's name and #. I am not really sure what they can or will do but you might want to try.

Donna,
The nice lady I spoke to is Ms. Harris at extension 1243. As I mentioned, my son is in the Youth Offender Program which is in a different location at the Clemens facility. Hopefully she will be able to help you too. PEACE!!

I will see what I can do. Thanks for the info. Ill let you know what happens. I would think him being in a camp now things would get easier instead of harder???? DUH!
Donna,
I have the same advice that Kris has. The ombudsman office will help you.
I really think that you will be very pleased with them!
Please let us know how it works out!
Good Luck,
Laura
