Sadie80 07-07-2004, 09:44 PM Could you be mistaking there identification braclets for rubber bands? I know that at certain facilities they have them wear plastic wrist bands with there name and DOC number on them. I guess for identification purposes. Fatima 07-07-2004, 09:45 PM I will ask him but he has to wait a while to call me. It has to due to block collect calls I have to wait until the block is lifted. So I thought maybe you guys knew if it meant anything. So will you ask Jeff when he calls you. Thanks so much you can either post it her or PM me whatever is easier for you...thanks again!!! I don't know if any of you listen to rap music...but have you ever heard the TI song "Rubberband Man"? Well in it he says "Why the rubberbands? B/C they're representin the struggle, man" (or something close to that) I am pretty sure TI is from the South...and it works perfectly with what Trinitee729 said. Hugs:p -Jackie TRINITEE729 07-07-2004, 10:32 PM exactly blondie...... only thing is the dudes here been rockin that for a few years maybe 3 now. Sadie80 07-08-2004, 12:06 AM Oh, these strange ideas are men come up with? kreepsgirl 07-08-2004, 01:12 AM Thanks Trinitee! I have wondered that myself. I was also thinking that maybe its make shift jewlery. But what you said makes perfect sense! a.lil.love 07-08-2004, 01:21 AM You all are right. The rubberbands are meant a symbol of struggle and hardships and more importantly the ability to come back from that! Most the time they wear one rubberband and usually they are thick.... Ask your man... see if he knows what it represents or if he's just wearing it b/c everyone else is?!?! francis 07-08-2004, 03:57 AM now, i am curious, my man usually knows all this stuff, i wonder if they do it here in southern california...he, doesn't like to teach me any of that sort of stuff, he thnks hw will corrupt me...he is so funny....but, one that is the same is being a soldier, whenever, i break up with him, he says that sort of thing, like he is hurt but he is a a soldier, ay,yay, yay..he kills me=}...it means the same as the rubberband...but, i am sure "soldier," has a lot of other uses... well, i am glad your man is bouncing back fatima=} TRINITEE729 07-08-2004, 07:55 AM i am glad i could help you all. livin in new orleans around these lil thugs you are bound to know alot about the streetz!!! Its a southern thing. Shows the ability to bounce back after struggling. He is probably wearing them to give himself support and remind him that he can bounce back from the prison experience. TRINITEE729 07-08-2004, 11:50 PM Damn Fatima..... You A Lil Fiesty Huh! Baby Calm Down And Just Relax!!!! JJT 07-09-2004, 01:35 AM The only thing that I have heard about rubber bands on the wrist is for behavioral changes. Like, if you want to quit smoking, every time you have an urge, you just snap the rubber band. strangeanimal 07-09-2004, 07:13 AM That's neat to know...for some strange reason, I will wear rubber bands, especially at work, so at home I have a collection of rubberbands. Maybe someday it will be a fashion statement....but I do like that it means your struggles and you can bounce back. TRINITEE729 07-11-2004, 06:15 PM Did He Ever Say Exactly What They Mean? TomT 10-20-2004, 02:19 PM As for rubber bands on the wrist, inmates have a hard time getting rubber bands for thier legal papers, because thay loose them. it"s not gang relayted or anything that I know of. I'm a officer in a large prison and I have inmates ask me for rubber bands all the time. I hope this might make sense. TomT 10-20-2004, 02:24 PM As for rubber bands on the wrist, most inmates use rubber bands for their legal papers so thay don't loose them. I'm a officer in a large prison and I have inmates ask for rubber bands all the time, because thay have a hard time getting rubber bands. I don't think this is a gang related. I hope this sounds right. haswtch 10-20-2004, 03:38 PM that was my first thought, actually- maybe he just didn't want to lose a rubber band? But I like the meaning. rays_babygirl 10-20-2004, 05:00 PM I am from down south in GA and all of the guys and some of the girls wear rubberbands on their arms. I don't know if you have heard of a rapper called T.I. but he has a line in one of his songs that says "Why a rubberband man, it represents the struggle man. I know some of the basketball players wear them also. Finishline sales what they call a sportsband which is nothing but an expensive rubberband that has color. I just think that it is a trend that started in the south and everyone is now doing it. herbs wife 10-24-2004, 10:15 AM my friend told me her hubby wears it like a wedding band...it s his commitment to her!!!! joenash4lyf 10-24-2004, 10:08 PM Thanks Trin! You're so smart! Debra1331 10-25-2004, 10:16 PM JJT answered with what I was going to say. I know from experience with my daughters addiction problems and her cutting urges that, in therapy she learned to wear rubber bands. When she gets the urge to cut or to use, she snaps the band as many times as necessary to divert her thoughts to the band, the snap and the sting away from the urge. ~Debra |
