Okay.. I hate, hate traditional and boring wood headboards so I made my own... three different times!!
I am a big fan of all the home improvement shows like Trading Spaces, Design on a Dime, In a Fix, While You Were Out.. you guys get the drift!!!
So now I have so many projects going but the easiest and one of the few I have actually completed is a headboard.

My current headboard was made using a ddecorative curtain rod in the
48"-86" size. Also a scarf and curtain panels in sheer. So the headboard looks like a window. The best part is a sheet of white buthcher papaer big enough to span the width of the bed and headboard and I painted it in a design that I like (an outdoor scene is great) and stapled it to the wall behind the sheers so that it looks like a window.
I love it and it was very inexpensive for something so original....
Curtain rod... WalMart ($14.86)
Sheers... DollarStore ($4.00 eachX2)
Scarf... Clearance Sec at WalMart ($5.00)
Butcher Paper... Free at school
Poster Paint... DollarTree ($1.00 eachX3)

HAVE FUN....
look for more ideas on this board in the future.... I am the do-it-yourself queen.

You know, there were so many forums I didn't even realized existed (or I guess I never bothered looking into them) that I find I enjoy so much. The reason I'm seeing them now is because I just "click" on new posts at the top of the page everyday and starting reading. I don't even pay any attention to what forum it is in. I find I'm responding to way more posts also, because normally I wouldn't read posts regarding another state, for instance. I think it's great!

I want to try that headboard idea because I don't even have a headboard! However.....(any ideas for this, a.lil.love?), my boxsprings and mattress are on the floor, because (and you really have to be a dog lover to understand this one), my old chocolate lab has arthritis so bad that she couldn't get on and off the bed. Obviously, she sleeps with me. My black lab could jump right up and she'd lay on the floor and whine. Finally I moved to the floor - LOL. So although I love the idea and want to do SOMETHING, I doubt a "faux window" would look too great two feet (or less) off the floor! Any ideas?

Mines on the floor too... not because of dogs but becasue my rails made too much noise (if you know what I mean). I've seen these lifter things that may work that I am about to try. But for now I have mine low, I guess that since the sheers are pretty long it works. I have a very tall "window" and it works well. In fact in 2 of the houses I have lived in we have actually had windows low to the ground like that.
But I guess it's not really a big deal becasue the idea is not to fool people into thinking it is an actual window...

Another idea though....

You know those straw beachmats or yogamats whatever they are. They are sort of woven straw. Well when I was very broke I used one of those and put it sideways and took black paint to the thing and brushed chinese characters for love and harmony on it. I did the Chinese things with real quick strokes so that the paint would have an uneven effect. It came out so good I could probably sell them!

Good luck!
