By the time my mom gets out she will be in her late forties. Her employment background is construction mostly. Lately she has been taking computer courses, and would do quite well. There's the murder thing that will hold her back. Is there anyone that has had any luck in TX getting hired? Even offender with non violent felonies? I'm thinking that the only way to help her become employed is to start my own business and hire her myself.
Anything at this point will be helpful.

I can't speak for Texas, but I can tell you that my boyfriend hasn't had a problem finding a job. He is a real personable guy. Infact, when he got out last August, his dad owns a huge business and he worked for him for awhile until they had a falling out. To make a long story short, he is now working for a construction company, BUT has two other similar jobs waiting in the line incase this one doesn't work out. Start building a network of relationships with people in the business if possible. Therefore, when she gets out you can recommend her for a job with their company. That would help out alot, and she would probably have a better advantage then if she were to go to a company blind without and connections. Starting your own business isn't a bad idea either, there are alot of grants out there for women to start a business (assuming your a woman, lol) . I borrowed that book "Free money to start your own business" by Matthew Lesko from the local library. If you want, I can get some information out of that for you, in your state, just PM me. :)
