View Full Version : DVI Visiting Hotline....Cruel Joke??
neilsgirl 07-02-2004, 11:43 AM Ok, so I have been calling NONSTOP for the last 1.5 hours trying to get thru the hotline to make an appt for visiting this weekend. I started at exactly 8 am and have dialed STRAIGHT for the last hour and half using redial. I am at work and since i have two phones at my desk, i was even using both at the same time. Nothing but busy signal! Has anyone ever actually gotten thru on this line? I just have this picture in my mind right now of them saying oh ya we have visiting in reception, call this number for an appt and they take the phone off the hook for two hours!
Im not even sure if Im approved yet, but its been a few weeks since i submitted my form and i figured it was worth a try to see if i happened to get approved before my man was able to notify me. Im so frustrated right now, i could just cry! Is this what im in for every week just to see my love for an hour through glass? i mean trust me, id do anything for him, but damn my blood pressure is soaring right now!
Any tips?
neilsgirl 07-02-2004, 12:13 PM Ok, well its now 10:05 and the visitor line is now closed. I called NONSTOP for two hours and didnt get through. Im so frustrated right now! In fact, after all that i have been through with this entire ordeal of my man being locked up, i have to say that this has by far been the most frustrating and stressful! How can a phone line possibly be busy for 2 hours straight if i sat and hit redial NONSTOP for those two hours? Just doesnt seem right! Anyway, now I guess I should try and get some work done! All I can say is that i hope i wasnt even approved to see him yet cuz if i was and i couldnt go see him just cuz i didnt have the "fastest fingers in the west" im gonna be crushed...not too mention, im so not looking forward to this whole ordeal in a week from now! sometimes its just amazing what tests someone can be put through all in the name of love...
Oh well, after all this i can only imagine what my blood pressure is! The only funny thing is that i have a mood ring on my thumb and it was turning colors that i have never seen before while trying to get through!

Why wait until 8:00 to call? We had a similar experience at another institution, so we started calling aroung 7:30 we usually got through though sometimes we would listen to it ringing until 8:30 and beyond before any one answered but a ringing sound is better than that constant busy signal
*Johnny's Angel* 07-02-2004, 03:01 PM i would do the same thing, but also im the type of complainer. I would call someone to complain jsut to tell them there system sucks, who cares if they do soemthing about it
crstdrvn 07-05-2004, 03:08 AM neilsgirl,
I am sorry you are going through this frustration.
Been there, done that, believe me. And long distance the entire time, of course.
Try starting at 7:55 am and you will probably get through.
Keep in mind that once he mainlines, you won't have this hassle anymore.
Good luck!
California Sunshine 07-05-2004, 11:50 AM I actually got through when I called to try and make an appt to see my guy when he was there awaiting court BUT they told me I couldn't visit unless I filled out another application and got approved even though I was already approved at his home facility which did me no good since he was only there a few days and it takes a lot longer then that to get approved!
I'm so sorry you didn't get through :(
babygirl502 07-05-2004, 12:25 PM I'm sorry you had to go through this, I cant even begin to imagine what you were feeling, but I would also do what others have said, start calling earlier, and make a few complains, let them know their system SUCKS!!! Hope you can get an appointment for this coming weekend, goodluck, and take care.
Here4you4ever 07-05-2004, 01:01 PM I went through this for 4 days in AZ trying to schedule a visit and no one ever answered the phone in visitation. I was so mad - I finally called the main line to the warden's office and she forwarded the call. What do you know, they answered. Maybe you could trying calling administration at that prison?
neilsgirl 07-08-2004, 12:23 PM Ok, so Ive had some faith in DVI restored...I started calling this morning at 7:45, sometimes it just rang constantly, no answer and other times it was just busy. I kept calling and at 8:23 the phone rang! I was actually reaching for the button to hang up out of habit when it rang! LOl...and Im laughing cuz thats what i have to do in cases like this....Im not even approved yet! I mailed my form about a month ago. But the man was really nice and said that he was gonna be processing more today and to call back tomorrow. Lets hope! Its bad enough that I havent touched my love since Jan 17th, but now I havent been able to see or talk to him in a month since at reception!
The craziest part of this whole thing...he submitted a 1381 to our home county cuz he has a pending escape charge there. I called today and they got it and he has an arraignment on 7/30. SO....he will actually be brought back up to county then for that and who knows how long they will hold him there for. Which is good thing...closer to home, easier visiting process, able to make calls, letters actually get to him in a few days, plus his half time will continue to count. Hopefully they dont throw the book at him too much though. They could possibly throw another 5 years on his current 16 months! Prayers, ladies, prayers!
Very thankful for this site, by the way. No way, no how would I have been able to hang through this without the wealth of info and support i get here!
MissyDuran 09-02-2004, 01:13 PM I just went through an hour and forty minutes of redial, finally got through and the visiting is full. How cruel is that?:( Going to try again tomorrow. I have such an awful sinking feeling right now, haven't seen my baby since July11. Wish me luck.

amanda74 10-25-2007, 02:43 PM Everyone is right you have to start calling about 5 minutes to eight. It is a horrible way to do visiting my husband was in DVI for 9 months. I was so tired of that appointment making. In fact it made me cranky as hell. Anyway if you start 5 minutes before you will usually get through.
Cristian's lady 10-26-2007, 02:32 AM Thanks for the advise amanda! I am calling in a few hours so I will start 5 minutes before! :)
