Did you try Ctrl+Alt+Delete? Hit those three buttons at the same time, click re-start....see if it shuts down and starts back up. Might be something running, or not responding, that's why it won't shut down. Hard to tell from here, I can't see your screen. :D Give that a try, see if it free's it up.
did all of the above already Toe...nothing
c+alt+del brings up the task mananger box, i have hit shut down restart
even done c=alt=del 2-3 times in a row, still wont do it
I am way confused
Does the task manager say if anything is hanging, not responding? Does your box have a re-set button? What Operating System are you running?
the task mgr has nothing in the box....
I have windows 2000 professional
will try the reset button

Blimey, that's good. It could be something as simple as a corrupted Windows shutdown wav file, did a bundle of reading about it ...you can check this link (http://www.aumha.org/a/shutdown.htm), it could be a whole flock of reasons. There's also a windows shutdown trouble shooter in the help file of your computer that can give you a couple things to check. To access it, click Start | Help. In the window, type Troubleshooting. Click on the Troubleshooting entry in the menu, or type it in the search box. Scroll down the new list provided and click on “Shutdown and Startup Troubleshooter” (Win98) or “Startup & Shutdown Troubleshooter” (Win ME).
Damn bill gates:rolleyes:
