I got a PM this morning asking for an interview for a book. I was wondering if any of my fellow lifer girls got the same PM and are thinking of doing it? I think it would be a good idea to weigh the pros and cons before we jump into anything.
What views do you have ....positive or negative?
Perhaps the Author could respond to our questions or concerns in this post...
My biggest concern is whether this book serves to educate the public or is it for shock value?

I don't think these things usually work out all that well for the prisoners and their loved ones. Some of the media see PTO as fertile ground for research and getting material for their own profit, but usually the finished product is not done in a very flattering or unbiased manner when all is said and done. It just ends up making us and our loved ones look like dysfunctional, neurotic, lower class citizens. We don't need to be seen in that light more than we already are, in my opinion. It's kind of adding insult to injury to then know that we've also allowed someone to make money for their portraying us that way. Not to say that would happen this time, but you never know and the odds are against a positive portrayal, from what I've seen.

Shock value sells books. Never forget that. ;)

i didn't get anything. did the person identify themsleves and say what publication it was for?

Ladies, I just found out that this woman is not someone we want to deal with! She wrote a horrible book called 'women who love men who kill' !! She makes us all sound like we give up our whole lives, families, children, jobs just to have the excitment to be with dangerous inmates!! My advice is to say NO!!

My friend is on D.R. in Florida, she has been really scamming PTO for this stuff... Since she wrote the book "women who love men who kill" I am going to the library to read it myself!!! she wrote some incredible stuff from what I read about her on her web page... The only way I would say yes is if the book would cause enough of an uproar to overturn his sentence...

I wish that is what would happen Loretta but please remember that writer, any writer...not just this member, write books for profit. It is highly unlikely that she is on a mission to correct the justice system.

I read some things about her , yeah she wrote a few books, "women who love men who kill" etc... I don't know about you but I feel like we are being watched...

I happen to "love" someone who has "killed"-cared about him before he screwed up and care about him now. Some of society just will never understand. Period. Maybe in their next life they will but untill they have walked the walk, did a few miles in our shoes and our lifers, there is really no reason to try to explain why we love who we do. If she finds someone willing to let her exploit them, all I can do is feel some sort of sorrow for them, as it could bring headaches and problems their way. Some may feed off the publicity of being in a "book" - but if you ask me-its a Jerry Springer episode waiting to happen. I seriously doubt it could help any of our loved ones on the inside and may do more harm than good.

If she wants feedback-she could post her questions here and we could respond.
I am very selective on who knows what about me, not everyone is on the same step of the ladder of life, so not everyone knows what its like to be in the positions we are and could understand why we make the choices we do.

So what other reasons could there be for so many women being attracted to convicted criminals? Isenberg suggests that vicarious murder may sometimes be a motivating factor. It is easier for the lovers of these men to overlook violence if they have considered it themselves: "Even while she denies his culpability, it is his ability to murder that attracts her. He acted on his rage, however unsuitably. [The woman] could never act on her rage. So [his] murder is [her] murder," she says.

It is certainly true that many prison brides have a history of violent relationships. Isenberg draws positive conclusions from this, arguing that an imprisoned partner may be a healthy strategy for women who are attracted to violent men, allowing them to engage without putting themselves in physical danger.
