just depends who is in a good mood or bad mood in the mail room , thats all

mail is a government job , but in institutions that have claimed no staff the government body has made it okay for no mail on saturdays ect ,,, they act like a government job , doesnt apply to inmates there are a few legal proceedings about that , texas is one (( help me here i cant recall the name of the case )) anyways , mail isnt a big issue to the prison system , only the folks that await ** mail ** and trust me , in indianna , and jersey , i had a peep transferred , a letter from feb just got to pendalton in, and my jersey letter aint arrived yet , from april !!

Mine got sent back one time and so did the guys offering him a job. I went to his house and showed him how to address the envelope. It has to have his complete name, number and the address and my return address on it or he doesn't get it.

I forgot to put his inmate number after his name on one of his packages, and it got sent back to me. I guess it just depends. Some people that work for the correctional facilities are very helpful. Others wont even give you the time of day.

I dont know about California, but I know Florida and Texas return mail without a DOC number :(
Let us know, they normally send it back, (after opening  ) with a letter inside of your mail, stating the reason (thats what happened to me)... to top it off they told me on the notice they would inform the inmate  more, cause I thought they didnt know who he was.

Hey thanks a lot for your answers, guys.... Im hope they'll be nice on that day, and pass the mail over... that'd be EASIER and CHEAPER then opening the envelope, writing a note, inserting it and then sealing the envelope and returning it ALL THE WAY back to SOUTH EAST ASIA..

but then agaaaain....

*wry smile*

hehe, thanks again! :)

Prisons can afford to send back the mail if it is improperly addressed. They open it anyway, read it , reseal it and take the postage to return it out of the inmates commissary. Go Figure!

I have a friend in one facility where the mailroom duties include two or three facilities and they are short-staffed. Sometimes it takes about a week or so to get letters through to him. I have another friend in a facility where the mail goes through in the usual postal time. I don't know if that helps explain things.

I found out that it took the facility between two and three weeks to give my guy the money order I sent him.

the mail rooom thing is insane!!!

my letter was sent back=for no cdc number...

once, i asked the mailroom if along with my letter if i cut out some pics out of a magazine to encourage him for comming home, like cute outfits, for both of us, pics of gardens, the ocean, homes etc. they said no, because they would think it is garbage......now try and make sense of that rationale...

he was transferred to a different type of prison facility...they sent that back to me..i was really surprised, i thought they forwarded the mail on to them when they are transferred within the system..

where my guy is at, and it is just a typical california prison...they are not allowed to receive books...usually, you can have books sent by the publisher....not where he is at...don't want those boys thinking....

Hello, Francis! I had a letter returned a few weeks ago..it had "can't locate" stamped on it. I had everything on the envelope..first time that ever happened. Made me wonder if they had lost him! I sent a book through the book store and he received it with no problems but when I sent another one through Barnes & Noble off the internet and the prison refused it..no explanation..must have been a bad day!

Hi Missouri Rose!! if i would have received "can't locate," i would have thought my guy had escaped=}

i wonder if any other institution is this messed up...probably not because prisoners are the lowest on the food chain in this crz country...the whole idea of hierarchies, food chain, domination, power over etc. leaves me ill....

jahanara, i am plzd he received your letter!!

best and peace
francis

I have loved ones in facilities that share mail room responsibilities. One loved one says it can take up to two weeks for the mail to be sorted. The other loved one gets mail right away. Go figure.
