I was wondering if I could get some opinions about Elmore. Good, bad, positive, negative. Someone I care about deeply is considering a request for transfer at his next review, which is coming up soon.

I'd appreciate any observations or thoughts about the place.

Thanks,

Care

Care,my brother just got transfered from there.Tell him to pick another place. They will write them up over nothing down there. The co's are hateful & the other inmates tell on each other. It's terrible down there.I didn't like visiting at all.Where they take you for the search is nasty. And you have to flash for one of the co's.She told us to pretend we was on Jerry Springer. The older co doesn't make you do that just the younger one.My brother was there for 4 months.Thank God he was transfered to Hamilton Work Release.I have to go 75 miles futher but it's worth it.And he doesn't have to sort garbage any longer.I didn't know till he went down there it was household garbage that's being recycled there. So tell your friend to pick another place.

Bamafan,
THANK YOU so much for the great information. I would say that the things you are saying are not even in the 'gray' area of it being only somebody's opinion! I really appreciate the information and will pass it along immediately. If anyone else has anything to add, I'd love to hear more.

PS I just LOVE spell check sometimes. Have to laugh, my spell check gives me a suggestion for "Bamafan" as........you ready? ~~~~Barman. What a hoot, sometimes those replacement suggestions are really funny.

Are there any other choices for your friend besides Elmore...?

which prison in elmore are you talking about. there are a few in there. i have two people i care about at Staton Correctional Facility and i have another relative one in Drapers which in Elmore also. it is okay if you ask me it is just they are behind with all the paperwork. but to me it can't be any different than any of the rest of them. just make sure you have everyone on the list for whatever because they put people on every 6 months.

Thanks,

There are actually three men's facilities right there together - Draper, Staton and Elmore. Brian was at Draper for a while - "it's okay, not the best not the worst" - we have friends now at Staton and Elmore both who all say they're all alright. Reckon opinions are relative most places (Easterling being the exception where EVERYONE thinks it sucks)...

Hi
Just wanted to add my 2 cents :)
My brother is at Elmore CF and he says it isnt too bad. Its much better then some places he has been he said. The only thing he has had a problem with is theft from other inmates. I visit him every other sunday when I am able to and from what i see while I am there ...its not too bad. The outdoor visiting area ia always clean..but crowded. The inside area is very crowded and noisey.
They do have a recycling plant on grounds and it is household trash. My brother worked there until he got into the class he is attending now.
There are 3 CF's right there together...Draper...Staton and Elmore. Elmore is in the back ....behind the others.
Fortunatly I live fairly close so it only takes me 1 hour to get there...
Thomas (brother) called and said that when he finishes his SAP class then he has heard he may go to Childersburg WR...does anyone know anything about that place?

anyways..just my 2 cents worth
Have a nice day y'all

My husband was at Elmore. We never had any problems...everyone once you got to know them was pretty cool. My husband was in the faith dorm and was a admin runner. Visitation is every other weekend from 7am to 1pm (i miss those visits where he is at know is 8 to 12:30 and dont ever get in there before 9) On the visitiation yard you have inside and out side. The inside is kinda noisy. In the faith dorm the phones were on all the time with the exception of when they were messed up. Overall I liked Elmore, I wish he was back there now (so does he)

I am looking for the rules for visiting Elmore. Also do you have to send the list of children that may visit...all their info...

Thanks
Sandra

The rules are like the other prisons, no white, no capris, no flip flops or sandals with no backs, wear a bra and panties, if you wear a skirt you have to wear a slip and the skirt has to be below the knees, no low cut shirts, visitation is from 7am to 1 pm every other weekend. He should have a visitation schedule and tell you what day if not you can call up there. If your son has children they can visit all you need is there birth certificate. If you are the one that will be taking the children to see him you have to have a form signed and noterized. The children do have to be on his approved visitation list. The only children that can visit are his own or any brothers or sisters. On your visit if you get there early around 7am you go to the front and get a number and at 7am they start calling numbers to get in. When my husband was there it normally didn't take that long to get in. You can take $30 in change for food and drinks. The only things you can take in is your drivers license and one key to the car and you give those to them and they give you a number. It usually takes about 2 weeks to be approved for visitation and to be put on his funds list. Also about every 6 months (give or take) they have a family night from 3pm to 7pm where you get to take in food and drinks.
