Our nephew was just OK'd for work release (hallelujah!), which means he'll undergo six months of CASAT (cocaine, alcohol and substance abuse treatment) first. He's in Cayuga right now, and expects to be transferred to a CASAT facility in a week or two. Does anyone know which facilities offer CASAT, so we can get some idea of where he might end up? Thanks for any help, and may your loved one be so lucky!

Thanks for the info, gosh it would be great if he ends up in Wyoming, that's like an hour away (we're in Rochester). I'm surprised how quickly he got the OK for work release, I think it was only a couple weeks. His sentence is 2 1/2 years, and I think you have to be within two years of release to be considered, which he just is. He's been at Cayuga approx. two months (I'm almost sorry he's leaving, it seems a pretty decent place, and he's always happy when we visit him).

Thanks again, and I hope your husband is as lucky as our nephew!

Tenacity, my husband is currently in Hale Creek.. It is a casat/asatca correctional facility. He should be transferred any minute now to Edgecombe correctinal facilty in Manhattan, NY. That is Phase II, work release. My husband sentence was 1 1/2 to 3 and he's only been in the system 9 months. Dawifey my husband applied for casat and was answered right away and transfered from Camp Pharsalia ( a minimum C.F.) in a about 2 or 3 weeks but in the same token my brother had applied and got put on a waiting list and ended up making his merit board.. ( New thing) Just like parole board but on an earlier date for an earlier release because of good behavior. I guess it all depends on the severity of the crime, how much time he has left and if the program is right for him. I hope he gets accepted. It's a great program and not only is husband coming home sooner than expected to me and our 5 children, he's getting something out of the program not just doing time.. Feel free to pm or put me on your buddy list tenacity and Dawifey* Good Luck to your loved ones and you both. "No one knows what it feels like unless they go through it themselves."
