View Full Version : Just thinking
I was wondering, with all of these phone calls to the Gov's, letters, E-mails that are written concerning the pending executions, do you think they (The Gov's) actually get these or is there someone hired just to field all the phone calls, E-mails and letters and then throw them away. The Gov's don't actually see it.
Also, how about trying to get a Bill passed (starting with the State of Texas) and then every State that has the Death penalty that requires the Govenor to be in the Deat Chamber and be the one to give the signal to go ahead instead of the Warden. I feel if he is the one that makes the decision for someone to live or die, then he should be there to watch it. To Watch the families (both the Victims and the Inmate). I wonder how many executions he would have to watch before he himself decides enough was enough.
Like I said.....just thinking.
Sabine 04-09-2002, 01:53 PM Dear Joy !
The petitions that go to the parole board and the governor - well, the parole board in texas does not even meet each other - so we can never know how they make their decissions. i think we have to sign those petitions, because when they do not come anymore, the people in america will think, that we do not care anymore. they are not more than a sign.
the idea sounds good, but is there any hope ? george bush was all over america as so many prisoners were killed. he wanted to be president, so he could not be in texas all the time. so his vice signed the execution orders. and one time the vice was also not there - so somebody else from his stuff did it. no problem.

I know there wouldn't be any hope in getting a bill like that passed...but hey, it would bring a lot of attention to the subject. The debates that have to go on, the media coverage, and the Govenor would have to kill the bill...what kind of story that would make!!!
** News Alert** Govenor kills bill that would make him responsible for the people that he gives the OK to kill!! :fb:
I know it's not reality...but a good thought.
Sabine 04-09-2002, 02:58 PM Yes, this would be good. Can "ordinary people" pass such a bill ?

Sabine
Who knows.....what would it hurt to try?
I'm game.....
Shortie 04-09-2002, 09:50 PM thqt would be interesting to try.. I think if you get someone with some knowledge behind you it could work..
Kind of a wild idea isn't it. I know it wouldn't pass, but it would be a great attention getter. Maybe open some eyes.
Gonna do some thinking about this
badgirl 04-10-2002, 01:58 AM All I know is NO-ONE has every acknowledged receiving my letters asking for stays. Maybe its because I live in the UK ... Maybe they think its none of my business ... Or maybe they just can't be bothered because their minds are already made up. Sigh ...
soraya 04-10-2002, 06:20 AM I think that they feel like no one from outside the US has any business with what they do...I once saw a documentary from a French journalist. This journalist had a meeting with a pro death penalty person (who had an organization to promote death penalty). he was very reasonable to the woman and just asked normal questions in order to find out more about her reasons why she felt like that. But this woman became very aggresive, shouting, using bad language, and told him, that he better stayed in France and don't mix in US issues.....
Maybe when we can ge the press to publish more things about the death penalty, like how people feel about it, family of the guy on death row...we should try to help people change their minds about the death penalty. because too many people are still ignorant about it...
badgirl 04-10-2002, 12:04 PM Well for starters I think everyone should read "Dead Man Walking". It should be compulsory because it puts across BOTH sides of the story. And another good book is Amnesty's Death Penalty one. I found a lot of that very upsetting.
Unfortunately though, there are always going to be those in society who don't believe the DP is 'grisly' enough ... they want to see things like botched executions in the chair and the gas chamber where it is blatantly obvious the inmate is suffering. Not clinical 'injections'. Some pro DP people think that because the inmate is strapped down and 'paralysed' from the drugs, its pain free and 'too easy'. Makes me sick ... Obviously this is a personal opinion.
soraya 04-10-2002, 12:47 PM makes me sick too...sounds more like the toughts of a serial killer (sorry to be so hard...)
Shortie 04-10-2002, 09:19 PM I used to work at the capitol in calif. you are right most of the time the gov. never reads a single letter. He has a dept who handles that.. Every once in awhile one will get through but it is rare. Sad but true fact.. they are to busy with other meetings to deal with this.. That is what they think any way.. It is very sad..
soraya 04-11-2002, 03:08 AM that's really sad...but it stays worth to try I think. Because who knows, maybe it might be just your letter that is the rare one that reaches the governor and helps changing his mind.. we have this saying over here: who doesn't try, never wins...
