Well...no one has posted yet so I guess I will start! I know there are quite a few loved ones of federal inmates around here...and I'd like to see how many we have and where they are.

FCI Beckley in WV--Yeah the judge ordered the Feds to place Billy "as close to home as possible." So far they've done that, until his points drop and they move him 3 hours away. Then my life will be turned upside down again.

I heard about the 500 miles but I think they left out the "times 2 or 3".

can you tell me if your loved one had a clean record prior to moving him to fill the new prison....did he request the move...or was just picked? I'm asking this only because we hope that when the USP closer to here opens...he wants to try to get moved there.

That is what it is...a misprint! LOL
I do know that the rule is they must be in one place for 18 months before a transfer request is considered. There was also a rule that if you have less than 10 years, you can request a transfer to a camp nearer home...but less than two weeks before my son qualified, a memo went out that the policy was to be changed to less than 7 years.

Question to all: Is anyone going to try to visit during Thanksgiving or Christmas? My son told me not to waste the money for the trip when I might only get to see him for a few minutes due to the large number of people visiting during the holidays. He has been there since April with no visitors.

Brenda....Mine man was moved out of FCI Beckley at the very end of March...and I haven't seen him since February! :( It hurts..and no I will not be able to visit him during the holidays. Thats why I am so hoping for something good to come out of his next reveiw! In May...long way! :(

Well, we can't see Billy for Thanksgiving because he's out of points. However, the 1st falls on Sunday, and I'm debating on whether to visit that day. Don't know if it will still be so crowded. (my luck, it will be) But for Christmas, I'm sure I'll visit him one day that week since I have the week off work.

I believe that Sabine and Eddie are the farthest apart.

Yes, that is a long way off. I am not sure when my son's next review is. They told him in so many words they will not consider a transfer until the 18 months are up. I have been writing Representatives, Congressmen, etc to try to get a transfer. So far all I received is a "I'll check into it and get back to you".

Ofcourse as much as they blow smoke up our a**es, (sorry), when he was moved down there, his old case worker and counselor and also the new ones agreeed that it was an unfair move. They raised his point level higher to move him out. So he was told if he stayed shot free from April to November they would put in a transfer request. But it seems at USP Beaumont, if you don't stand your groud....you don't stand a chance! Needless to say..he got into a fight...so no move! But now it sticks again...lets see what May brings! lol

i just visited my pen pal at the FCI i Florence CO last Friday. he is origianlly from WI, wants to transfer closer to home, but probably won't be able to. Why? the prople that testified against him at his trial are all at facilitieis that would qualify for him as closer and the authorities do not wish to 'mix' them together.

he also did tell me that before ANY transfer can happen, that an inmate MUST have 18 months without any 'violations' not just 18 months at the given facility.

i don't know if this helps clarify some of the talk here, but this is what i was told.

I am joining for my son and myself. They are involved with BOP issues. It is $3 for an inmate and $20 for an individual. After I receive my membership verification, I am going to see if they can help in the "distance from loved ones" problem. Although it may not be as important, I feel it ranks high in maintaining rehabilitation for inmates. There is also a list of congressmen who support the organization. I thought some of you who have loved ones in the Federal System might be interested.

i have a freind that i grew up with in leavenworth ks

My husband is at FCI in Florence, Colorado. I live in Michigan and I go visit every 4-6 weeks. I just moved here about three months ago for a job opportunity. It used to be 1,000 miles, now it is 1600, but by air it isn't much difference. They are building a new prison in Herlong, California, about 45 miles from my hometown of Reno, Nevada. Perhaps he can get moved there to be closer to his daughter and elderly parents when it is complete. His place isn't too bad at all, but it is still prison and the guards seem to like to let you know that all the time. At least there is a beautiful view of the mountain ranges from the visiting room!

My (very close) friend is at USP-Allenwood in Pennsylvania. I also have a friend at USP-Beaumont.

Isn't it sad that we are closer to others ones loved ones then our own! I would do anything to have My Man in Maryland or PA! :( Wish we could do the switch! We'd make many families happy!

About transfering closer to home.....I was told if he had a close family member that had a severe illness...that would work best! Having a doctor write...taking it to your congressmen....sending it to the prison...something like that! With alot of support to back it up. However no one is that ill...and I would not wish that on anyone just to get him closer! So...I wait! :(

No..neither one are. I am actually from Wisconsin and one is from Kentucky and the other is from New York where he is serving his time.

Oh wait let me take that back..he is from Boston, but was in New York during the time of his incarceration.
Yes it is sad that loved ones are so far away. I thought of that when I moved to Cali, but my bud told me that either way I am far from him, and I would still have to travel quite a bit to see him. I think he was just trying to be supportive of my decision.

Still bad...I thought mabey they too were from California....since the BOP doesn't seem to keep our loved ones close to home! Not as bad as it could be...something to be thankful for!

Every so often, a federal inmate has a review...I believe it is every six months. It is a meeting with case manager and others. This is when transfers, etc are discussed plus other issues. I am not sure all it covers. I just know my son went to FCI Waseca in April and had a review in October and due for another in April. To qualify for a transfer, one must stay in a facility for 18 months with good conduct to be eligible for consideration for a transfer. I hope this helped a little. I guess your husband can ask his case manager for more detailed information. Good Luck!

I guess its something like a report card so to speak!

It list all the current assignments...
then gives comments for
Work performance rating.....Incident reports since last review....FRP Plan/Progress....Release preparation participation.....CCC recommendation.....Progress made since last review.....Goals for next program review meeting.....Long term goals.....Other inmate requests/team actions(in this part....Ben requested a consideration in a transfer/the case manager wrote "consider with clean conduct"

sorry I missed your earlier post. Amir was in Beaumont, had enough credits to be put in a med security prison, requested oregon and they gave him the new prison in atwater, even though it was a max. So they simply took him because he had requested a transfer to the west coast. He hates it! They put him in shu almost as soon as he got there and wont let him out till he transfers out. He has requestted the east coast to be near his mother and daughter, but he thinks thy may just send him back to beaumont.

Well...I do hope that once they have taken him out of Beaumont...he will not have to go back to that place! I hate this entire picture having to deal with the prison system.....but USP Beaumont....geez...I really can't stand it!

Hopefully he will get to an area he'd be more comfortable with....mabey it will ease his time.

Good news, he has been transfered to the OKC transit center on his way to USP Lee, Va. He will be closer to both me and his family. I am so very relieved to have him out of atwater. But it is still very aggrivating. He almost has enough points to go to a minimum security prison but they keep sending him to a max.

Does anyone else have any further info on USP Atwater in CA? My husband was sent there Feb 02, also after being told qualified for FCI and had good chance to get FCI Phoenix which is closer to home. Instead was sent to Atwater. It has been hell (excuse language) since his arrival.

The research I did on Atwater, not easy since is so new and was unable to find a lot on it, indicated it was an "adjustment" facility. Since his arrival and the BS he's experienced, I've questioned adjustment to what?

Another Native inmate I'm in close contact with was also sent to Atwater (from USP Beaumont) in April and said it is has the strictest security of any facility he has been in.

Anyhow would appreciate any info anyone has on Atwater.

Kim, I hope I'm not repeating what I have written earlier. Amir was "picked" to go to atwater from beaumont. He was put in the hole almost immediately when he arrived. He wrote up several guards and they claimed it was for his own protection. He didnt loose any priveleges per se, but had to rely on the guards to bring him the phone and allow him out for commisary, which they didnt do like they were susposed to. He spent less than six months there before he was transfered out. The new warden allowed him to transfer out after having him pay extra monies on his fines, strange I know. When I went to visit, I meet several ladies whos men where in the hole who told me that these guys had never been any trouble in other facilities. Seems it is an atwater phenominon that otherwise well behaved men go there and suddenly become problems. We have had a terriable time with him getting his mail also. I have sent numberous packages of magazines and books which never made it to him. He also had a terriable time receiving his newspapers. His mother recently receieved a christmas card from him minus the pictures he enclosed. When they moved him to the hole, they threw away all the things he wasnt allowed to bring with him instead of storing them. They especially liked to deny him religious material. He never received any islamic books I sent him. I really hated paying for these things and having them simply throw them out. I work too damn hard for that nonsense. I also had problems visiting. I tested positive on the ionic scanner because of my numberous daily PRESCRIPTION medications. They refused me my visit after traveling over 1800 miles for it. They banned me for 3 days so I had to turn around and go back home. They refused to allow me to produce my prescriptions to prove that it was not illegal drugs. The female guard who grabbed my arm and led me outside put a huge huge bruise on my arm. I am on blood thiners and have to be extra careful. It was just pure hell. Earlier in the thread someone said he was lucky to be out of beaumont. As bad as beaumont was, Atwater was much much worse. It was the best christmas prsent I could have gotten to have him removed from that god aweful facility. Good luck and keep me posted on how he does. My prayers are with you both. I am also curious to find out if they are discriminately selecting our men because of religious beliefs or color of their skin or a combination.

That is o not right! So far we haven't came into any problems as you have. He is Native American and was given some troubles over the strong beliefs he has to his reliogion but never denied anything I sent having to do with such.
Have you questioned anyone at the facilities, not that you'd get an answer you would expect but just curious.

And now...I was just telling him it wouldn't be any worse if they shipped him out to California....but we better rethink this now!

Just wanted to let everyone know Amir made it to USP Lee Va. today. I just pulled him up on the bop locator and saw he is there. I will give any details about this prison, where to stay and the visiting guide lines as soon as I know anything.

It will take alittle time for him to be able to veiw this new place. I am curious to how he feels on the institution itself. I will look forward to your postings.

My dad is in Springfield, Mo. medical center for federal prisoners. What i do not understand is that there is a medical centere right here in Ft. Worth, Tx. which is 45 minutes away from me and they place him some 7 hours from me. They do this to make it hard on us. Stay Strong........ Chandra

Hello my husband is at Montgomery AL, Maxwell airforce base
FPC MONTGOMERY AL. Anyone eles husband there?

My son Mariano (28) is at Federal Correctional Center Low in Coleman, Florida. Approx. 8,000 miles from home. I have visited him for the last Holidays, found him very well and planning his return to normal life in April 2004.

The facilities are comfortable, clean and safe. Mariano calls them "this resort" and tries to comfort my preoccupation.

The visitation schedules are wide (7 hours /day, 5 days/week) and there is a large visitation room and patio. I'll try to upload a photo (taken from the site of the architects who built the prison). The picture was taken feom the inside, once you pass through the entrance and waiting room. The walls it first plane surround the patio. The visitation rooms are at left and right. The fence door at the center communicates with an enormous internal patio, and there are many acres of sport fields not visible in this photo.

Thanks God, it is a good place, everybody respects him and there have been no problems since he was sent there in July 2001.

I hope someone here will have good information for you. But also try asking your son to get a visiting form from the prison. I have some from other locations that give a list of places to stay in that area.....also ones that offer discounts for these places. It also list like cab phone numbers and etc that can come in help for some. Worth a try!

Just thought I would jump in here. I am in Kentucky where my husband was until last week. They moved him over 500 miles away to Cumberland Maryland to the camp there. Does anyone know anything about the camp? He hasn't gotten to call in yet and I am most anxious about how he is doing and what the place is like. The last camp wasn't too bad and it was only 200 miles away so I could go see him every week. I know I can't go to Maryland often but I will try when I can. Just wondering what their visit rules and situations are there. General stuff. I know about the FCM at Lexington in Kentucky and the camp at Manchester but that is all.

I travel about 90% of the time, always searching for bargains, and the cheapest rates I found were at a Super 8, 12 miles from Waseca City Center. Try www.hotwire.com though, and you may do better. I went to orbitz.com and travelocity.

I replying to your question as far as the motels in Texas I pay 60.00 a night and you need to get there at a good time, meaning if you check in at 2:00 am the price will still be the same if you had check in at 12:00 pm. Good luck and be aware of the Texas Police they are strict about the speed limit. I'm going to see my hubby this weekend and my brother.

My brother is 500 to 750 miles from family ! He is in FCI Elkton (very bad place) and I know the horrable hurt when you can't see them ! He is supposed to be transfered to FMC Devens for medical care, but that may be a mind game too. It's alot further away, but he needs medical care BAD !

I am respondeing to the questions about Cumberland Md, I know a guy who did some time there a couple of years ago. He said it was a clean place, not too bad. He didn't have much trouble there. I will try to get some details for you. When you get some info from your husband, let me know. Mountain Mama, I am interested in finding out about camps too. So if you get info on this camp let me know. I am also interested if anyone has had a furlough with someone from a camp? My man is in FCI Butner, NC low...waiting to go to a camp ..hopefully after his next team in July, although his points wount be down until August...who knows what they will decide and where they will put him. I live in Ct so NY or Pa will be better then NC.

I also have to add that in the 12 years he has been in he has been in PA, AZ, TX, FL, NJ, GA, SC, RI (briefly) and now NC....Go to prison get to see the country :-) Hopefully NY and then home to Ct in 2.5 years, maybe a 1/2way house of house arrest would even be better.....who knows the rules change everyday. We just have to keep the faith right !!!?!!

About Cumberland....I met some guy at the Office Depot store when I was copying some pics from fed prison. He commented about them knowing that they were from a federal prison and he started telling me his Dad was in FCI Cumberland. I asked some questions and he said also that it was a clean place...considering other places he had been....Cumberland seemed to be at the top of the list. Hopefully it will be a decent place for him!

The first place he went to in Pa was at his request...then NC was at his request (his sister is there). New York was a long shot so he went for NC first. Now that he is almost eligible for camp we are hopeful about NY. I can see Danny more often and so can the kids. Every 6months is hard and 14 min, and then 1 min phone calls the next day is not enough.

NC, Butner FCI is a new place. It is very clean, but the personel is another story. Also there is alot of men there that are pedifiles, they have special safety for them and he gets really upset at situations (dont want to offend anyone)......he just wants out of there.

I am looking forward to him being at a camp...it is one step closer to the outside world. I am 45 years old I have 3 children 23, 15 and 13 and a grandchild 7. They all live with me. If any of you have this kind of lifestyle you know that it is alot of work day to day....being a single parent. I look forward when we can all be together

I got pretty luck i quess cause he is in FCI Pekin, IL which is only about 2 hours away.......It actually isn't that bad when I get to go see him and I try to go about twice a month.

Ms Dragonlady my Boo is in FCI Butner low also. do you visit often? I go once a month for 2-3 days, the visitation room is so small.

I wish I could visit more. I was there in February and I will be back in June when school is out (We live in CT). I will stay for 4 days...Ahhhh!!!! Yes the visiting room is very small but they do have games and things for the kids to play and all I do is look into my honey's eyes and talk for hours. I usually go 2 out of the four days without the kids so we can have some one on one time. i can not wait til June. What section is your guy in? Keep in touch!

My fiancee' is in Leavenworth USP in Kansas and he and I both are from Louisiana.He is from Southern Louisiana and I'm in the Northeastern part of Louisiana. Judge asked that he not be sent to area where he is from or the area I'm from. He was designated to El Reno Oklahoma but while he was at the Transfer Center in Oklahoma, he was redesignated to Leavenworth USP. He has a security level of 11 which requires him for a medium facility or FCI. He's in for probation violation for not completing a drug program in which the treament center stated he did not complete.Now the treatment center has come back after his sentencing and amended their statement saying he did in fact complete the program. He didn't even know this. I had to writ him and tell him because I'd found out by always checking on things and making a lot of calls. His Case Manager says he should be in a FCI and after I contacted the North Central Region (BOP), they also said that he should be in an FCI and that his Case Manager, Team Manager, Counselor, etc. can coordinate his transfer to an FCI and that I should contact them as well as my fiancee should. I spoke with his Case Manager and told him what the NCR said to me and he agreed that he could coordinate his transfer to an FCI. I'm calling him at the prison in a few minutes to see what is going on.If the BOP is concerned about the inmates then why are they sending the majority of them so far away from their loved-ones? Read the "BOP Program Statement" (Purpose and Scope), Visiting Regulations. It States the following:
The Bureu of Prisons encourages visiting by family, friends, and community groups to maintain the morale of the inmate and to develop closer relationships between the inmate and family members or others in the community. The Warden shall develop procedures consistent with this rule to permit inmate visiting. The Warden may restrict inmate visiting when necessary to ensure the security and good order of the institution.

SPG , My fiancee is also at Leavenworth USP. He is orginally from New York. But he caught his case in Virginia. I live in the Kc, area so i met him through a pen pal site. Tommorow is our one year anniversary. He's been there since January 2001 and has a little over three years left . I'm sorry you are so far away. I have to deal with him transfering out to take the drug program so he can get hopefully a year taken off his time. So if that doesn't happen then it will be like 4 more years.

Mine is at FCI Morgantown in WV. September of 2004 he should be released to community or home confinement

my boyfriend is in kountze, tx which is actually close to my home town where i visit often. he says that the visits there are only for about 30 min. so we haven't had any as of yet. but the last time he was in prison it was FCI Beaumont and i visited him at least once a month and we didn't have any problems there. the facility was nice and clean also. His first time ever in the system, they sent him all the way to Coleman, FL for three whole years. We are tring to get him transfered to Segoville, since I have moved back to dallas.;) :) :)

I have never done this. So here goes: my man is in Sheridan OR FCI for about 8 more years. I hope to visit him in July. !st time for me. Anyone know about Sheridan?

My best friend, Al, is at USP Atlanta. I'm all the way in New York. Al has been shuffled around the U.S. a lot too. First Lewisberg, PA, then Allenwood, PA, then Beaumont, TX and now Atlanta, GA. I've been to visit more prisons than I care to admit. By far, Beaumont was the worst as far as crime within the walls.

This is to ngp the bop doesnt care about inmates or there familys they have one main objective that is to make life hard for the inmate and life even harder for the family.Did you see the new drug machines they have in the prisions when you visit,its nuts my wife came to see me and she was shoot down from coming in because the michen detected something on her hands,she never even say a drug let alon touched one,that machien was desined to discourage wives and family from visiting there loved ones .Thats the bop they try to destroy your family any way they can belive it.

my finance is in terre haute and i am in texas. terre haute is just about the worst facility he has been in during the last 16 years. recently he has been in jonesville va, which was a pretty good prison as far as prisons go, and he spent time in edgefield sc before that.

My husband is at FCI Terminal Island in California. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. He's only about 30 miles from me so it's a short drive and I visit him every week for about 8 hours at a time. The window view is the ocean and we've actually seen some dolphins & seals as we look out while chit chatting. I couldn't have asked for a better situation under the circumstances. :) Izzy

Biggest drawback: I'm in Wisconsin and he's there!

My wife just started a 10 month sentence at the new federal camp in Victorville, CA. I believe it has been opened for only 2 years. It is not even listed on the BOP web site. Seems to be very clean and the visiting area is not to bad. The only draw back is since it is the desert, there is no grass, just a lot of dirt and rocks. It is only 85 miles from home so visits are not a problem which helps both myself and my 5 1/2 year old daughter.

My hubby was in Estill, SC but is now temporarily in Orangeburg, SC (he had to go to trial again for something he did while in Estill) Estill is a camp and a med security-but I believe he has to be transferred out now due to his mis-behavior. It was a decent place if you ask me but then, I wasn't "inside" :)

My boyfriend is in Pekin, IL, for now he doesn't seem to think he will spend his hole time there tho..right now he is only about 2 hours aways..I don't know what it will be like if they ever move him far away. I quess i just move with him.

My daughter is at SeaTac Federal Detention Center (Seattle, WA). I just made the 1500 mile round trip to take her son (3) to visit - this is only our 3rd visit there since she was incarcerated on Dec. 11th, 2002. It is a maximum security facility, no outdoor privileges, but my daughter got to work outside a few days recently doing landscaping! She also taught an aerobics class for a few weeks as she is a physical therapist. She's making the best of a very bad situation and we try to cope as well. It's been a long time since I have been on the computer and alot has changed. My boyfriend Adrian has been moved now a couple of times. He was in FDC Englewood, CO and was supposed to be moved to FCI Englewood, CO - which is very convienent since it was only 1/2 hour away - but Englewood was full so then he was supposed to go to FCI Florence, CO - that too was full so he has been placed in USP Florence, CO - which is over 3 hours away, I guess I really shouldn't complain but it's not too easy traveling in a truck for that amount of time with a 10 1/2 month old baby - and the prison is a maxim. sec. prison. I have heard that it is ranked number 11 in the country for the most inmate murders. Last year alone 11 inmates were killed and 1 guard. But Adrian tries to tell me that it really isn't as bad as it sounds. I'm keepin my head up for him!

My Son is in Ny Rikers Island, once he is done with that case he will be return back home to start a federal case he has in Pa. He was charge with e pills I think he has 7 points what ever that means. he got into trouble with a 6 month period prior to that he was in college finishing his 2nd year.

My boyfriend is currently at the Petersburg Med FCC in Peterburg, VA. Hates it!

I'm interesting in finding out how other facilities are run throughout the country, he's never done fed time and is finding it hard to adjust at this newly built facility.

I'm also interested in finding people who may have been duped into accepting pleas with false promises of a time cut for information by federal prosecutors in the Western District of VA.

My fiancee is waiting to be sentenced for trafficking "X" in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but I'm in New Orleans, LA and don't even know if I'll be able to see him for the sentencing. He asked his lawyer to reccomend FCI Oxford in WI for his prison, but I'd rather see him go to FCI Pekin, IL, but we won't know until the end of September, right now I'm just trying to learning the law better and write every congreeman and senator in the U.S. to get the Parole Bill Re-enacted.

My man is in FCI Elkton in Ohio. I am new to this website and have read a lot of helpful imformation. I have been to Elkton 6 times this past year and it is taking it's toll. My trip is 686 miles from home in New Hampshire. He has served 2 years of 10 and looking for any suggestions on transfers closer to home. JoJo

My husband is at FPC Forrest City about 100 miles from us. There is a camp 40 miles from us, but I guess we were pretty lucky to get this close. Anyone else have any connections to this camp?
Does the BOP just randomly pick places? There seems to be no rhyme or reason.

My fiance just left Lee USP Federal Prison (MAX security) in Jonesville Virginia. Now he is in Beckly federal prison in Beaver West Virginia.

Well my baby is not close to me he was 7 hours away now he is 4.5 hours away from me.

Well I do have to say for a thread that started off slow, it has taken off. My husband is in Miami FDC, and we were told he will be there for 6-8 weeks pending a transfer to Coleman in Orlando. What is up with that? I live 25 minutes from Miami FDC and 4 hours form Orlando, do they do this on purpose or are they just slow upstairs?
After reading some of these threads I think the latter is probably right!

He is in the middle of the fun transfer game though...lol.
We requested marion, Il and at one time he was told he was being sent to taledega (mispl?), Alabama. Who knows where we'll end up. He was sentenced to four years.

Meanwhile I will be taking my mother to Alderson, WV August 21. That is where she will begin her sentence of 1yr+1day. She is the one who told me about this site and made me promise to use it frequently while they're away.
This is my first post, but the site seems promising for my bleak world.

Well my friend was just sent from county to Englewood FCI in Colorado which is literally 5 minutes from my house. But before I could even see him (only talk to him once) he was moved to Florence FCI which is now about 2 hours away. Not bad, I have friends that live there. He is now much closer to his parents that would drive 300 miles to visit him every weekend! And I do mean every weekend, they haven't missed not a one since he got locked up in Feb. God bless them, that is what I call unconditional love!!!!!!!!!! They will now have only about 1/2 of that distance to travel. I am so happy for them!

My love is in Butner NC he has 2 1/2 years left on a 16 year sentence. We are trying to get him moved to a camp in NY..it is like pulling teeth. He is 530 miles away from home. They are claiming that according to their map it is under 500 miles so he is within his home territory. We are still looking and hoping they will transfer him.....I miss him and love him. Welcome all newcomers to the site, I pray for all of you as we take this journey together. Hopefully laws will be revisited and changed so the prisons are not filled with people that deserve opportunities to put their lives to more constructive things then what the prison system has to offer. There are many people still sitting in prison that have overpaid the price. My love has done enough time for a drug charge!!! One day at a time!

Murphy's, the FDC Miami is a temporary center where prisoners are kept until sentenced. Then they are sent to other facilities. You will feel a great relief when he is transferred, because the FDC is a closed building, they don't have a job, no open air activities and not much room. Coleman is a large facility, modern and well organized, with plenty of sports fields, many activities, wide dormies (at least in the Low), aerobics lanes, etc. Most important, he will have a job, miserably paid, but sufficient to keep him busy. Nothing is worse than being in prison without anything to do.

It's sooooooooo sad to see so many so far away from family ! I am 1000 miles from my brother and it's REAL hard not to be able to see him often. After two years my recent visit was bitter-sweet ! Leaving was awful and my heart broke in a thousand pieces ! Tears just won't stop !

That might be a good idea - except that the feds, as I understand it, won't allow anyone to visit who isn't immediate family or can prove (with two signed affidavits by others) they had a relationship with the person before they went into federal prison. (Religious volunteers are an exception I think.) Zelda

My husband will be at Coleman Low beginning 9/5. He is ill with Parkinson's disease and other serious medical problems. I have read all the previous posts regarding Coleman but if anyone has further information could they please either pm me or reply here regarding this place. I need to know what type medical facilities they have, etc. He is on many meds and I am worried sick he will not receive them,although he has over 4 different physicians letters and all his medical records. It is just so scary because he has trouble with balance, "freezes up", etc.

This is a wonderful site and I am so happy I found it. My husband will have 18 months and knowing there are such caring people to talk with here makes all the difference in the world to me.

this is a great thread! wow, 11 pages. i will never forget my experience with the feds. Carlos is a Colombian so he was moved every six months. somewhere in those 3 i/2 years he ended up in the same cell with the guy who sold him the dope, another Colombian. to this day we don't know it that was a set up or not!

he did his last 6 months at Dublin, here in CA where he was able to have an affair with Squeaky Fome, the woman who tried to shoot Gerald Ford!!!!! one of 'Charlies' girls. she made my childern all kinds of knitted toys. i DID NOT know who she was till years later. the feds send all possessions home, every time they moved him. i have stacks of love letters from her to him. what a kick, hun?

FCI Oxford. He did eight years in USP's, spent the last two at FCI Florence and just recently got shipped to Oxford. His points have dropped low enough to go to a low now. I can't believe it. So we're waiting for him to be re-designated now.

My father is at FCI Fort Dix, NJ, he has been in the Federal system since August 2001

My best friend was just moved from FCI Fort Dix and is in transition to a minimum security facility somewhere in the Midwest...he has been in the Federal system for 7+ years...

I still haven't found anyone on this entire listserv who has or had a son in the Fed Prison ICC boot camp in Lompoc(or PA for that matter). If you hear of anyone, please let me know as we are down to the wire and have loads of questions. There have been a few postsers on this thread and others about knowing someone in the women's ICC in TX but I am not sure the rules are the same for visiting, mail, phone calls, etc.

My son's father is in petersburg FCI. I'm in NY and I hope that they transfer him soon so he can see his son for the first time. He's 8 months old now and thats how long he's been gone. I miss him.

My brother is scheduled to self surrender himself to TAFT. I know nothing about this Institution. U.S. Marshalls office just sent a letter that contained two sentences indicating the institution was named TAFT and gave the address. He's self surrender date was originally October 20, 2003 which was only 3 days away, but one week ago our Attorney filed for an extension and the Judge approved a 2 month extension. So I'm thankful that we will have my brother for the Holidays.

He is scheduled to serve a 4 year sentence.

I'm trying to get the most information about this institution before he goes in. If anybody has any info on TAFT it would be greatly appreciated.

My brother was convicted in Mississippi, but is having to serve his sentence in Ohio. This is over 950 miles from our family. My dad works and takes care of his 93 year old mother. I am in Oklahoma 1100 miles away. Is there any way to get him moved closer to home. It breaks my heart that he is so far away from everyone and can have no visitors. He has never been that far from home and we are sick with worry.

We send $ so a phone account can be set up, it's cheaper for your brother to set up an account for phone...also have any friends and family write too.......... MY BOYFRIEND IS IN ALABAMA, I AM IN SOUTH FLORIDA. HE HAS BEEN TRYING TO TRANSFER FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS, LAST WK THE WARDEN TOLD HIM SHE WOULD SIGN OFF ON THE TRANSFER BUT THE REGION DID NOT APPROVE IT . BOP DOES NOT CARE ABOUT FAMILY. MY BOYFRIEND'S DAUGHTER HAS A HANDICAP AND HIS PARENTS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO VISIT FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS. SAD THING, THERE IS SPACE HERE IN MIA CAMP. WE REALLY THOUGHT HE WOULD GET APPROVE HE HAS 14 MONTHS TO HIS RELEASE DATE.

Getting married won't get your boo transfered closer to you. A friend of mine was in FCI Lexington, Kentucky when he married his girlfriend earlier this year. They are both from Alabama & share a child. Now the BOP has moved him to FCI Texarkana, Texas. Bottom line is...BOP doesn't care about families at all.

This transfer sounds funny...........he has only been in the feds about 14 months...but he had 2 fights in sheridan so they said he was too much too handle and transferred him to atwater.....is this typical????

my son just got transferred out of sheridan to atwater. He had been n the hole in sheridan for a few months. Sure hope you hubby is handling sheridan better than my son did.

I just want to send a message to everyone on PTO. I just read alot of the messages last night...and it really had an affect on me. It made me feel like crying.........so many.....so alone....Thank God we have eachother on this site. I don't know about the rest of you....but for me...it's nice to not be alone. I never tell my son if I cry for him or my arms ache to hug him because he has enough to think about in there..I don't want him to have to deal with my emotions. I just let him think how big and strong I am. But, in reality I miss him more than anything in this world. I worry about him constantly and situations he could get into. So far, God has answered my prayers and kept him safe. Now, I have other people to talk to who are going through the same things..........THANKS PTO. God Bless each and everyone of you and your loved ones.

I feel your pain and confusion. Unfortunately, only you can answer that question...should you try to revive your relationship or not? Maybe you could just start out as friends....do u really have to just jump head first, into a fully commited relationship? My son is in the feds and just broke up with his finace because the pressure was just too much for him. He is much happier with out the added worries. I also had a husband in prison a few years ago and we didn't make it. Also, I had a a good friend go to prison (4th time) a couple years ago.....we started writing 'as friends' and found out that as friends we were the best of the best!! Now, he is out and lives with me (as friends) and we are doing great...and he is doing super.....he's getting off parole 2 yrs. early because he has done so well!! My point is....the stress on you and them is going to be terrific. You really have to be positive of what you're doing to make it work in these conditions. Some people can do it and some can't. If you can...you will develop a trust-bond that is super tight, but if you can't deal with the stress (or he can't), there are alternatives. Friends are a great thing. We all need and treasure them..and who knows what can bloom from that. Whatever your decision.........trust your guts girl!!

My son arrived at USP Atlanta, GA yesterday and is waiting to be transferred to Forrest City, AR. He doesn't know if he will be in Atlanta one day or one month. All depends on when the feds get around to putting him on a air lift.

Does anyone know anything about the facilities at Atlanta or Forrest City?

My son is 20 years old and I'm scared to death for him.

I don't know anything about Atalnta. But, moma you be strong for him...especially now...he needs you to be strong!!! My son has been in and out of prison for 10 years and he's only 28. You're in my prayers.........

This has been the hardest thing I've ever gone through. I have three grown kids and Derek is my youngest.

He has never been in jail before and I can't believe he is in prison for smoking pot in a federal park! Actually, he is in jail for violating his 12 month probation sentence for smoking pot in a federal park. :argh

This has been a nightmare. We had an attorney, but the prosecutor was hell bent on putting Derek behind bars (must have been the long hair in a pony tail).:confused:

The prosecutor even came over to Derek and his attorney (when we were at his sentencing) and whispered 'you are going to prison punk'. Derek's attorney said 'don't say that'.

I don't know who I'm madder at; the federal system, Derek, his attorney, prosecutor or the judge who sentenced him to 6 months.:fb:

My brother is also waiting at USP Atlanta for transport to Butner FMC. He has been there for 9 days. He was suppose to arrive and leave the next day. He says they are over crowded and there are 4 to 5 in a cell and that he's having to sleep on the concrete floor because they are out of mattresses. He says the food is terrible, and that the only time he gets out of the cell is to get is food tray. Not a pleasant place to be by any means, but hopefully he and your son will soon be out of there. 160 days might seem like a life time to him and you, but it will be over before you know it, just hang in there. My brother was sentenced to 15 years, and i just take it one day at a time, it's all we can do. God bless you and your son.

My son Mariano (29) has been transferred from FCC Coleman Low, FL, to FCI McRae, GA, after 12 days of diesel therapy visiting FCI Tallahassee and USP Atlanta. I wander why they don't allow us parents to pay for a decent bus ride, it would not be too expensive once in some years and would save them the nightmare of waiting for transports, housed in institutions which don't have the minimal facilities to receive them.

McRae is a private institution (Corrections Corp.of America)where all deportables are concentrated for the last months of their time. Seems to be good. If anyone has some information, please post it here.

This in transit situation sucks big time, he can't even call his lawyer. I've been sending letters but can't even be sure he is getting them. And the money that I posted for him a month ago is still lost in space, I sent more this week. I'm frustrated big time.

Hi everyone, My name is Rachel and my husband is in Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn for past 3.5 months and i miss him alot. I got arrested with him but i'm home now with curfue. We have 3 kids and we been together for 13 years and never been away from each other. I'm allowed to visit him every Monday for 1 hour but it's so not enough for us. I know its closer than some of you. I'm trying to get him out on bail and monday he was suppose to have meeting with prosecutor to discuss his bail and after all marshalls forgot to bring him to the court house and now it's only next week. I hate this system. Our sentensing is in January. I'm scared! My youngest is only 7 months.

Great news! My brother has finally arrived at FMC Butner! We are so happy he's out of Atlanta, and can now hopefully get the medical care he needs.

Thank goodness for that! Being in transit is never easy, for them or family on the outside!

My husband is in USP Terre Haute, Indiana. 670 miles from home. He was in Lewisburg, PA then Allenwood, PA. About 3 years ago they moved him to Indiana. They say it was for his own safety. I'm not sure I believe that.

Hi guys. I am sorry to hear that your loved ones are so far away. I know the feeling, I am in Texas and my mom was in Florida for 8 months. After several phone calls to her counselor and about 10 letters to the Florida prison they moved her to Bryan Texas. I feel very fortunate and I will keep you all in my prayers that you be united with your loved ones soon.

Mine will be going to LEE USP in a couple days. I am looking for someone in NC or SC that might want to travel together.

The man I love is in Coleman FCC, Coleman Florida. He will be there for approximately 9 months. He has been gone since Sept. 4. It sucks, but I am hanging in there.

My baby is at the FDC Honolulu it is right next to the Honolulu International Airport and I hear once there sentenced they will go to the mainland somewhere but I also heard they can put in a request for a certain federal prison but its not sure if thats were they'll go

Kalei151 - you can request a specific facility but it is totally up to the BOP as to where you are assigned. There is no magic formula that decides your location. It is fairly simple. Where there is a bed on that day, that's where they designate you. The 500 mile rule really has no application anymore since the federal prisons are now 40% over capacity and under the Senate version of the budget, 15 of those will be closed resulting in at least a 55% over capacity figure for all federal facilities. I only have been able to make one trip to see him. Cost me over $600 dollars, and when I got there they refused to let me visit because of false results from the electronic drug test- iontrack.
Anyone else had this problem?
It was a visit for Christmas, and it almost did both of us in, it was all that kept us going for so long- the hope of that visit.

We've had lots of ion scan problem reports out of Atwater. It is very common for it to occur there. We are putting together a list and will be filing a complaint and requesting action from the BOP. Let me know if you want us to include your incident. Karen

My loved one is in Pollock, LA and is due to be transferred soon, hopefully to Butner, NC which is much closer to me because I live in Charlotte, NC-the drive will still be almost 3 hours but I haven't seen him since 1996 so it will be worth it!

Hello, i thought i posted here. I guess not. I'm Jennifer. My man is at USP Leavenworth. He fought or we did to get his time down as it was supposed to be. So now he is to be transferred out around August 2004 or sooner. Take care.
Also he is from Virginia and New York. He used to go back and forth. So i've never traveled and it is going to be scary for me when he transfers to go alone to strange places as i live in Missouri and only been to Kansas which doesn't count.

We're not sure yet. He finally had his sentenced reduced from 19 1/2 years to 7 1/2 years. But also it was in his sentencing to take the drug program. I think his review is around April. Since his sentence reduced i guess, and maybe staying out of trouble he doesn't have to stay there. So when he transfers not sure if it will be directly to the program or to wait. I guess we will know more after review. Does anyone know what facilities offer the drug program?

I do know that USP Beaumont does not offer RDAP.

I know that Eglin in Fl and Maxwell in Al have the RDAP program

My husband is in TCI Taft. A private run prison by Wackenhut (EVIL!!).

My husband is at the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu and from what I understand after he gets sentenced he will be shipped off to the mainland some where and they don't tell you it till a couple days before you leave.I think they should give family members time to figure things at least a couple weeks not a couple of days and then hes gone

well I am jsut learnign about this whole justice system myself I have never dealty with this before but in Federal prsion there is no Parole whcih I think is crazy because in state they have it and the crimes are so different you know but remember for every year they get 2 months automatically knocked off and then also there soemtimes are programs they can get into and also halfway house

This is my first post. My brother just arrived at Butner FMC. He has a 70 month sentence. 85% is 61 months. He has about 59 months to go. An appeal may cut a couple of years off. We are hoping.

Rev, I hear your frustration and recognize it easily as I have been there myself. But depending on the issue, I do feel that we can get some help. When I was harassed about visiting my brother because I am dependent on a motorized wheelchair for mobility--I stood my ground. I wrote to the Director of BOP in Washington DC and sent copies to my Senators and hand carried a copy to my Congressman. My Congressman is not sympathetic to the changing of drug laws except to make them more harsher---but his office personnel listened to my plea for help and sprang immediately into action. Both my Congressman and one of my Senators wrote to the Director of BOP on my behalf on two different occasions. I wish to share this with you to give you hope. We must support one another and work toward the common goal of getting our loved ones freed. I wish you a happy visit with your son.

Anyone know the street name, road, route or where it's located all I know is the Po Box and that's it's located in White Deer. He's been gone for some time ....and beleive nothing they tell you they do whatever they want, after all who are you going to report them too...they are the feds.

Of course he can. If you get married while he's in jail he will have to have that added to his property list I think is the way my Hubby told me.

No visits on Tuesday and Wednesdays
Saturday, Sunday and Holidays:* 8:00 am until 3:00 pm
Monday thru Friday:* 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm
Can have (4) weekday visits and (2) weekend/holiday visits each month
Cannot wear anything sleeveless and must wear apparel below the knees
Nothing can be taken inside except money, car keys and picture ID
Must have a picture ID to get inside plus have the okay from the counselor to visit
When you visit be sure to have/know the inmates number, plus tag number of the car and the year, color, make and model of the car
Children over 16 years of age must have a picture ID

By the way--the waiting to get inside is done from the outside of the facility in all kinds of weather.
Line-up to get inside usually begins around noon during the week.* We can go up to the door around 12:45 to fill out the paperwork.* The best days to visit are Monday and Thursdays.

My son will going to Coleman, Florida which is about an hour from us...i don't know how we got so lucky..but i'm worried that he will be transferred out somewhere far. I hope not but it seems to be thing go from reading your messages. I'm new to this so i'm pretty green so i will be gratefull for all your info and support.

Hi, my husband is at Victorville FCI. I am about 7 hours away. He was in county for about a year before we was transfered, and we could only talk behind a glass and through a telephone. I am waiting to be able to visit, but I'm scard of doing the wrong thing, or wearing the wrong thing and being asked to leave, or having his visits taken away. I haven't been able to touch him for over a year, and what if we hug for too long or something....
I been reading other people's stories, and I'm just afriad of doing the wrong thing on accident since it will be my first time. We decided that the first visit will be alone until I see how it is and then take the kids another time.
Has anyone been to Voctorville FCI? Can people give me some advise....

my boyfriend is in kountze, tx which is actually close to my home town where i visit often. he says that the visits there are only for about 30 min. so we haven't had any as of yet. but the last time he was in prison it was FCI Beaumont and i visited him at least once a month and we didn't have any problems there. the facility was nice and clean also. His first time ever in the system, they sent him all the way to Coleman, FL for three whole years. We are tring to get him transfered to Segoville, since I have moved back to dallas.;) :) :)

My heart goes out to you and your child. The road ahead will certainly be a rough and bumpy one---but hopefully you will gain the strength to muster through. My best advice is to take one day at a time. My situation involves my brother, so I have not experienced first hand the challenges which face you. But to solve any problem, you must break it into smaller bits that are managable. Don't try to devise a plan that will get you through 10 or 20 years today---because time has a way of working out some of the things by itself. But you must make a plan and that plan will most likely necessitate asking someone somewhere for help. Family--are there other family members who you could rely on to assist you with care of the child while you find work for the first time--which with today's economy will not be an easy task in and of itself but will be a necessary one. Church and community--do you have a church and/or community which you could turn to for help finding a job, getting counseling, helping you answer the most difficult questions? Then spirituality--while I am not a religious person, I do have spirituality which gets me through the ordeal with my brother. Faith is essential to survival. I wish you the best and will be thinking of you.

lostlamb, I read a great post written by a gal with a little boy the same age as your little girl. She said she just didn't know what to say to her son. Then one day she sat him down at the kitchen table and said, "Daddy has done a bad thing and is going to be in time out for a long time." Her son said, "Can I go see him?" She said, "Yes." And, for her son that was the end of it. He very much enjoyed his visits with his daddy and his daddy was very glad to see him, too. Hope something like her simple explanation fills the sadness your little girl must be feeling. Too, hope you've found some financial help. Social services should be able to offer some temporary funds. Please don't be ashamed to ask because of your circumstances. Think first of your child. If someone looks down their nose at you just realize they have a bigger problem than you or your child has. Just be who you are, a loving mother and devoted wife. Be blessed. ~ WJ PS You might want to try your state forum just below this one. Someone there may be in your area and have some specific ideas for you. You're in my prayers.

VictorVilleGirl, I haven't been there. But I know my hubby told me they are drilled in the do's and don'ts before they come through that door. You can pick up some clues from watching the couples around you. Each facility probably has its own set of rules. If you have to wait very long before you go in you may be able to strike up a conversation with another gal who knows the routine. Have a great visit, wear conservative clothes, bring a clear plastic bag of change (our vending machines ask for exact change and some won't accept bills), your photo ID and vehicle plate number,....and ENJOY that first hug and the one you get when you leave. :-) ~ WJ
PS You might want to check out your state forum, too, after this forum.

Mine is at FMC Butner currently. ( a medical facility) I have only went for one 2 day visit, since I live 12 hours away. The staff was very friendly, the process of checking in to see him was pretty painless and visitation, though crowded especially on Sunday, was fine. My bf says the staff so far have been very professional and nice ( knock on wood!). Of course, its a medical facility, so I have no idea about the other two just down the road from it. And he finds it depressing to be ill and also be around people in very sad situations ( cancer and other serious or terminal illnesses) but there's nothing to be done about that Hopefully he will be able to be moved closer to home within the next year or so, which will be great. I can't afford to visit him up there. My nephew drove me up there and the cost of gas and hotels rooms and food for just a couple visits was something I could only do about once a year!

My wife is in Alderson fpc in WV, its about 6 hours for me to visit, but there isn't anyother place closer for her to go. We are from ohio the Youngstown area. It is pretty hard to go and see her but so far i have made it every weekend, but its only been 2 months, we have a lot to go. But the visits there are very nice nobody bothers you at all its like there not even watching you at all. And the c\os are pretty nice.

Mine is at Nellis FPC, which is a country club as prisons go and I live here in

Las Vegas so visiting is no problem. However, he was first sent to Lompoc because the judge recommended him for boot camp. "They" decided he wasn't eligible, but he had been promised Nellis if it didn't work out. Needless to say, "They" then decided that he wasn't eligible for minimum security
after all. He was in a panic, but I wrote to my Congresswoman, Shelley
Berkley (wonderful lady), and she got right on it. Don't ever expect them to admit they're wrong, they defended their actions to her- but within a month,
his transfer came mysteriousy through. Never forget the BOP is a bureaucracy which is fat and hapy and they don't want their bosses breating down their necks!

My brother is at a Memphis Satellite camp in Millington, Tn. We got the "as close to home as possible" remark too. Its an 8 hour drive to see him. That's not close. But then the camp isn't bad at all. He has it pretty good there, which is something to be thankful for.

Welcome to PTO...and the "close range" of living! Wouldn't it be nice if we all could just pick up and travel those hours with no problem! Atleaset he is in a decent place....might be better off that way!

I'm in Dallas, Texas. My B/F is in a federal camp in Texarkana. I hear it is a 3 hour drive but I wouldn't know since I have not been approved to visit yet (he has been there 5 months already)....I'm keeping the faith though.

hi everyone!! i'm new here, my sister went to seatac fdc last month which is just an hour drive for me to visit, so far i've been there twice. would love to go more often, but work gets in the way. the probation officer asked her if she had a choice, would she prefer seatac or a camp in california. from what we've heard, the camp would be much easier to do her time in but she chose seatac to be close to home and the judge and bop granted her that. from some of the posts on this site, i think we got lucky in that they honored her request to stay close to home. i wish all of you the best and hope time goes by quickly until your loved ones are home with you!!

I am not sure what the reason for his transfer would be. Has he had any incident reports? They do sometimes transfer people for disciplinary reasons.

Michele, a person usually has to be at an institution for 18 months and have clear conduct before a transfer is considered.

I have a very good friend in the fed. system and he is located at Forrest City, AR I am not too familiar with the federal system nor this facility, so if anyone has any info to pass along to me about Forrest City, please do so.

Some things...while we miss and want them....are just not worth it! And the sad part is...it often rolls onto others around us that do not chance things.

Hi everyone, My name is Rachel and my husband is in Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn for past 3.5 months and i miss him alot. I got arrested with him but i'm home now with curfue. We have 3 kids and we been together for 13 years and never been away from each other. I'm allowed to visit him every Monday for 1 hour but it's so not enough for us. I know its closer than some of you. I'm trying to get him out on bail and monday he was suppose to have meeting with prosecutor to discuss his bail and after all marshalls forgot to bring him to the court house and now it's only next week. I hate this system. Our sentensing is in January. I'm scared! My youngest is only 7 months.

Thanks for writing back! They have been on us since my guy has gotten there, I am white and he is black and in Otisville they really have a problem with it. They said that as we were walking in from our pictures that his hand was under my arm I really dont remember that happening but they said it did and you cant argue. We have nbeen very careful about how we touch each other as to not get into trouble because we have been targeted. The warden was notified very shortly after they pulled us from the room and he is the one that said we were to not have any visits until the DHO hearing, not a common practice from what i heard. The warden said that i allowed it to happen and that we would be banned for at least 6 months, and this is without the DHO hearing. We had always been so careful its just upsets me so. We are going to have the DHO hearing in a coule of days and his unit team recommened 60 days. Sorry so long i just get so upset. Thanks againWell....don't that just suck!

Hi everyone, I am so happy to find this site. I really have not a soul to talk to about these issue. My fiance is currently serving his time in Otisville, NY about 4 hours from me. He will be in for about 15 years so i have a long road ahead of me, it is very conforting to know i can come here and talk about issues that my friends cant relate to. Thanks so much! If anyone has any info on Otisville please contact me. Also i go up to see him every week so if anyone wants to car pool contact me. That is when i get my visits back. Oh and before i forget Girls be very careful as to how you and your love one touch each other. The feds will do just about anything to reduce the amount of visit. The are really really watching every move you make and not just that day everything is taped so they might find something later in the week. Trust me, that little touch and feel you get will have you crying for months like me. Take care everyone and keep your chin up they really need us behind them.

My guy is in USP Lewisburg and going up to review and hoping for reclassification to a medium security in september.
Can anyone tell me what it's currently like at Lewisburg? I know it's old and
read on here it looks like a dungeon. I'm more concerned about what goes
on inside. There is a possiblity he could get redesignated because he was
sentenced incorrectly and is going back to court on Friday for that There
are a bunch of fed guys being held in a state facility while awaiting court,
and someone in there told him he would probably be better off at a USP then in
a medium. Any comments to that? Also does anyone know how long you have to wait before going up for review to be reclassified?

I don't understand, why anyone, would make such a comment. What is better about a USP compared to a Medium? In my personal opinion, I'd stick with the Medium anyday if my only other choice was a USP!

My man said the same thing. He would much rather do his time in a USP. They say that because they seem to think that inmates have more control in a USP then they do in a FCI. In an FCI everyone is pretty much on there toes and trying to keep their points down so they can get to a camp. In a USP a lot of men are doing life and they don't seem to care about the rules and such because they know they are not going anywhere anyway. Does that make sense. That is what my man told me.

Thanks to both of you for responding. I agree, I find it hard to believe that a medium
wouldn't be better but that is just a mom's thinking. If I understand correctly from
reading the classification guidelines, etc. on the web, IF you are reclassified, it just
changes one level - either low or high until the next review. These rules/manuals/

Lewisburg isn't all that bad. That was the first federal prison I had ever visited. Nice big visiting room. Smoking room where inmates and visitors can go to smoke at opposite times (half hour and hour increments). Tables with chairs accross from each other and you have to sit across from..... Guards weren't too bad. It was chilly up there if I remember correctly. Now mind you it was about five years ago that I was there last. All of this could have changed as they do often.

Mine is in Childress Tx, About 8 hours north of me. Which i think is terrible, but then again, Those people dont care.

My husband is at FCI Jesup, Georgia. He's 2 hrs from home and I drive there every other day. We mis him so much.(me & kids)He's been gone for 4 days now and has been sentence to 6 months. Hi all, this is my first time in here. We all have the same problem. Someone we love is locked up. My fiance is in Forrest City Arkansas. We have a 10 1/2 month old baby he has seen once. I could only make it once. He has a year left and he says he doesn't want me up there. I live in Alabama so it's not as far as some of you all's loved ones. There are two Ferderal Prisons in Al. One a camp the other I believe a med. security. Would have been nice if they kept him in state but that's how it goes right.

Well I dont really come to the federal threads often but my husband was at Sea Tac FDC here in Washington state about 15 minutes away from my house then all of the sudden this weekend he was trasnfered to Oklahoma throught CON AIR. Hello all, my name is Michele and I am also in Florida. My boyfriend is in federal, and I haven't even tried to get approved for visitation since I am on felony probation. My probation should be over next month and I was wondering if any convicted felons have been approved for federal visitation.


My son is in FPC and his older brother is on felony probation. T sent his visitation form along with a letter from his PO to the institution. They told T he was approved but then said it was a mistake. They said they will approve him, but it will take a little longer. It has been about 4 weeks now, but he is still waiting to get approved, so we'll just have to see. My son's counselor says it will be approved (the letter from his PO helped) but, it just takes longer.

Keep the faith ladies my man finally got his transfer back to his home state, oregon, after 17 months in arizona. He did have excellent reviews tho with no fights just card playing but they told he was gonna be home 6 months ago but oh well just glad he is within driving distance again. He is at sheridan camp is anybody else going that way?

so basically they ship inmates to whereever there is an opening in a prison? thats stupid so basically say you are in san bernardino county jail in california so they can ship you to new york if there is space open?

Basically they can! However, it doesn't always end up this way so there is a chance.

My husband is in Talladega, Ala FCI. We live 30 miles north of atlanta. S o we have been blessed with is location. But does anyone know about the facility? I've been checking every where in here. I'm praying it is a decent place. I haven't heard from him, yet. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Just a couple days ago. He was sentenced to 24 months for (not sure the exact words used) fraud. I looked at bop.gov web site and it says his projected release date will be 02/01/04...does anyone know how this works? like what I mean is something was said to him about a halfway house, when would this happen? My son is at Beaumont FCI which is a medium facility. He has a meeting next month with his counselor and they are supposed to have his records changed so he can go to a low facility. He just requested that I get some updated information from the PTO members on Bastrop, Seagoville and Texarkana..
He is interested in the educational classes, vocational classes, living quarters --3 to a cell or dorm style? ... visitation procedures and area .... recreational activites (weights, tennis, etc.) ..... Thanks for all of your help. We all appreciate this great site and FED-X.

One of the ladies I work with had the same issue when she went to visit her son a few weeks back. They finally asked her where she worked. Since she is a bartender, they told her that anyone that handles large amounts of cash could potentially set this off. You don't know where the money has been. It kinda eased her mind, but really didn't help the fact that she had traveled quite a ways to see her son and didn't get to see him. Her husband got to go in, so guess it wasn't a complete loss.

Well we are at the FDC in Houston. Let me say that it is by far the worse run facility of any type I've ever had the displeasure of visiting. I'm fairly new at this prison treatment or torment whichever they choose to call it, I must say that not even the professionals with titles share the same grotesque statue of the C.O's here. I'm wondering if by letter writting I'm subjecting my HONEY to extra ill treatment? Stupid question! What can one do?

Well for me they told him that they were sending him home to Beaumont, but another of our friends on his case is there; and they wont send them to the same place EVEN THOUGH they've worked it out. (We all know how federal cases work, fight it get the maximum; plead and you are automatically implicating those with you.) BUT he's in coleman,fl. I think its a better place even though so far away. He FINALLY got to see his momma recently and I am just waiting on my paperwork. Why they wont put them where family can visit regularly encouraging possible rehabiltation is beyond me; but seems to be their policy. Maybe we should have house swaps or something. Hope everyone gets to see their loved ones soon!

Just wanted to let everyone know Amir made it to USP Lee Va. today. I just pulled him up on the bop locator and saw he is there. I will give any details about this prison, where to stay and the visiting guide lines as soon as I know anything.
The name sounds Muslim .. is he? My husband is also at Lee and is Muslim. He's only been there for a few months. Visits are good though, better than some faclities.

My husband is also at lee. He got there a few months ago. I have been a frequent visitor although that will be stopping soon due to the expense. The hotels there don't care about ripping you off! Every holiday so far they have raised their rates to $60 - $80 per night.

There is no public "picture profile" available for federal prisoners that I am aware of. My suggestion would be...if the name, race and age matches up, to go ahead and write. From the response, you should be assured it is your friend. The only problem is...it if is a common name and simular age.

It can be rewarding to get intouch with an old friend!

Welcome to PTO, I'm sure you will find here the support and solidarity I received. As far as I know, the BOP locator is updated every day and it is very accurate. If the name, race, age matches, as Diane says, there is a 99% probability he is the person you are looking for. Good luck

Thanks. I did send a letter but he did not respond yet. This is another reason why I
felt this was not the person. When I wrote the letter I asked him to verify his sister's
name just to make sure it is him. I told him if he did not feel good about doing this I understand. This maybe the reason I have not heard anything from this person. It has been 3 weeks now.

My Husband Has Finally Been Moved To Fdc Seatac, Seattle, Wa, Which Is Only 30 Mins From Home. This Is A Blessing After Having Him Thousand Of Miles Away In Florence, Az For The Past 8 Months. I Will Be Happy Till Dec 23rd When Ins Awaits His Release, Then They Take Him Into Custody For His Deportation. He Will Be Even Closer To Home Then (15 Mins Away), But We Will Go Back To Non Contact Visits, And The Sadness Of His Deportation. My name is Shirley. My husband and I took our daughter to Bryan Tx. to turn herself in Tuesday.
We haven't heard from her. Her 14 year old daughter was home today looking after her 4 younger brothers and sisters when the phone rang. She has been taught not to answer the phone unless it is a family member when her parents are not home. I was wondering what shows up on the caller ID when you get a call from a federal prison. The caller ID said usb or usp. Would like to let her know how it shows up so if it is her mother she will no it's ok to answer the phone.
I also read several posts regarding the distance their loved ones were sent. Our daughter was sent 1700 miles round trip from home. We plan on making a trip to Tx. in Oct. and taking her children and hubby. Want to get at least one visit in before winter weather prevents us from going. According to the BOP web site they claim they try to keep them close to home. When we spoke to several people about this we were told in the end it is up to the BOP to make the final decision. There are two that are much closer to us. One was Greenville Ill and the other Pekin. They said both of these were overcrowded.

I Usually Let The Answering Machine Pick Up The Call, Then I Listen To See If The Message That It Is A Person From A Federal Prison Calling, Then I Immediately Pick It Up, And Accept The Call. my guy is in usp leavenworth in kansas and he been there for three years and it's hard for us because he on some type of lockdown i phone call a month i hate that because he have to call his mother he call last month and i was moving my cell was off and he tried to call so i missed the call:slap: so u i was depressed we haven't talk since 2000 always letters and the clast jail he was the phone was so messed up we didn't bother but we are closer now than ever best friends for life by the way he's lifer lwop 45 years to life no parole:eek: huh

I've found that when he was in OK or ATlanta they were collect calls and call forwarding was a blessing...However, in Elkton and DEvens, where calls are paid for on his end, if he gets caught having a call forwarded he loses all phone privleges, so, I shut off the call forwarding immediately after that! The phone company must think I'm nuts with all the times I've had forwarding turned on and off...due to his being moved around so much.

I'm in central Illinois, my sweetheart has landed in FMC Devens, MA. The distance STINKS...they moved him from Elkton, OH a couple weeks before I was going out to visit..haven't seen him since Thanksgiving weekend, 2003...thankfully I am allowed some awesome time with him in my dreams. I dream a lot about being suprised to see him, they have let him come home for the weekend or an early release...only in my dreams, but still, they are nice while they last.

My daughter is at the FCI in Dublin California...the judge also ordered for the Feds to place as close to her son and family as possible.... they first sent her to Texas to the medical facility there then in 18 months moved her to California...we live in Washington which is a 14 hour drive from here but so much better then Texas :)

those 13 months will seem like forever for you .... I am guessing you have not seen her at all :( I would go nuts.. I am very thankful they moved my daughter to California. Texas was just to far...heck it was on the other side of the world from me .. my daughter has a life sentence ...we are hoping that someday she can be moved to our state ;)

My Honey is at FCI Cumberland which is a 2 hour drive from home. So we are blessed to be so close.

My brother is at FPC Atwater, he prefers that I call it "Atwater Camp" although he refers to it as "Cupcake Camp". He is very lucky to be there, only 30 miles away from my parents! Anyhow, he's only there for 5 months.

My husband is in USP Atlanta on holdover. He's been designated to FCI Gilmer in West Virginia and we're just waiting for them to move him..hopefully soon. Gilmer is 7-8 hours away but at least we'll have contact visits! He only has 4 1/2 months left to do.

hello, i have a niece in alderson west virginia for 26 months and i have a nephew in gilmore, west virginia for 17 and a half years. also know a few men in morgantown, wv. its just hard having them in prison for so long, i hope we can all make threw this stuff.

My husband has been in Leavenworth USP for 4 months now. His points were figured wrong. The Judge requestd El Reno-150 miles away. Instead, he got Leavenworth-488 miles away. The warden signed a transfer after points were re-figured. The north central office denied it-he hadn't been there 180 days. Now they have him in administrative detention-1 1 hour visit with him behind glass,if time permits(only 5 shu visits per day, on a good day) and one 15 min phone call per month. I drove all night christmas eve to see him christmas day and my name couldn't be entered in the computer to visit even though I spoke with his case manager 3 days earlier and was told to come. Seems they decided they never received my visit form and I am no longer on the approved list. But my son did get a 30 min visit though. But I wasn't allowed to wait for my son in the prison. Had to go to the car and wait for 3 hours and it was really 2degrees outside. Hope your Christmas was better than mine. I have been married 30 years, and am not handling this very well at all. Just found PTO today and it already feels like I have come home. I don't think it is possible to "figure out the system" but would a[ppreciate all help!!!!!!:confused:

I am joining for my son and myself. They are involved with BOP issues. It is $3 for an inmate and $20 for an individual. After I receive my membership verification, I am going to see if they can help in the "distance from loved ones" problem. Although it may not be as important, I feel it ranks high in maintaining rehabilitation for inmates. There is also a list of congressmen who support the organization. I thought some of you who have loved ones in the Federal System might be interested.

hello everyone, well i have a neice in alderson wv for 26 months, nephew in gilmer wv for 17 and half years and a few friends in morgantown wv. we have been lucky i guess being as they are fairly close to home. but these sentances just arent right, when people get less for murder i wish and i pray that it will change soon. just wanted to let you know where my loved ones are.

MZWood, when you find out let me know. My brother has been there for about 3 weeks now and I'm still trying to figure out how you get there from here!!!! It appears there is only one tiny road leading into Pine Knot and he said that the prison is way back in nowhere! FCI Manchester was so much better for me as I would head north on I75 and stay in London and then go from there to Manchester.

My sweety is now in FCI Fairton New Jersey. In a few months they plan to ship him to Miami Florida. Once he is done with his time in Federal which will be on feb. 2007 he will be sent to do time in Puerto Rico. Us women do the time with them, I just cant wait for all this to be over with. :cool:

i have a niece in alderson prison camp for another 8 months and i have a nephew in gimer medium prison in wv for 15 years. we are lucky because we are from wv and they were placed as close as they could get them to home. i feel bad about people who are placed so far from home because it is bad enough with them being sent away but its worse if you have to drive so long to get to see them.

my loved one is in a state correctional camp, but my penpal is in USP Beaumont in Texas. He's also originally from Michigan. He says he hates it there and would have prefered being in Ind... closer to home.

Mine has finally made it to FCI Seagoville. He is supposed to get the camp, but has a few things to clear up first. I am just glad to finally have contact visits after a year - and to actually get to see him on a regular basis.:p

I am new to this...my oldest son has been in Nellis for 4 months. I understand it is closing and that he may be transferred anytime. Does anyone have a loved one who has been transfered out yet? This looks like an amazing website. Thank you everyone.

My boyfriend is USP Lewisburg PA Camp. I am from Ohio. He is only a couple of hours away. Holiday visits depending on how far you have traveled will sometimes factor into how long you can stay. Also how often you visit. And of course how many points have been used. They usually ask for volunteers to leave, and then they choose using the factors I stated earlier.

My husband was in Beaumont Medium, but was transferred in January when they lowered his points. They couldn't send him across the street to the low because one of the snitches on our case is there, so they sent him to Oakdale to fill it up since it was in the process of changing to a low. I am in Texas, and right now he's about 3 hours away, but it wouldn't matter if he was across the street. I still couldn't see him. I just got out of FPC Bryan in November and am still at the halfway house. Hopefully, I'll be seeing him in about 9 months, and I don't care how far I have to go. We haven't seen each other since May 14, 2003.

My man is at the prison camp at Taft, CA. Its actually a pretty nice place, despite the 110 degree heat. Visiting is very easy, but very crowded. I can't wait til he gets transfered to a facility with rdap though. It might be anywhere in the country, but whatever gets him home sooner is fine with me!

Hi Diane, your right there are quite a few Federal Inmates loved ones family's on PTO, my husband is currently at USP 1 Coleman, in Florida. Lord does it suck.

My guy is at FCI-Greenville. Only 5 hours away, but with my work schedule I haven't been to see him yet. It has been 2 1/2 years since we have physically seen eachother. That is what is truly heartbreaking. I do get to talk to him almost everyday though, so that is really good.

I hope this will offer you some comfort, but I just returned from a 12 month bit at the camp in Leavenworth, KS. I am from Minneapolis, MN and while incarcerated, met many men who were transfered from Waseca.

I can tell you they all liked Waseca MUCH better than the camp. I know it was a college at one time (U of Minnesota at Waseca). I have also heard through numerous sources that Waseca has, by far, the best food in the Federal System without a doubt. Rest assured, your son is eating well.

I know it is clean and well run. All things considered, it is one of the best places in the Federal system to be incarcerated.

Remember, when you visit your son, the Mall of America is only about 60 miles to the north of Waseca should you wish to check it out.

My son is in Devens FMC. He is close to home for now thank God. I get to visit him every week. I know we are very lucky for that. Next May he will be moving to a RDAP Camp. We are not sure where that will be.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but... For those with loved ones in the federal prison at Yazoo City. They are all okay, but have been without phone service since the hurricane. My dad was able to make his way there today and everything is fine. I know we were worried, so thought others may be as well. Hoping to have phone service back within 2 weeks. If I hear anything else will let ya'll know.

Our son is at FCI Fort Dix. Has been there since July of 2003. Has a release date of September 2006.

My man is started out in FCI Victorville in Adelanto, CA but was transferred to USP Atwater in Atwater, CA in June. So much for hoping to get sent closer to home! Instead he was sent further away! I live almost 700 miles from the prison but his poor mom lives in Florida!

I only see him when I can get someone to drive down with me. Its over 15hours and flying there is too expensive. :eek:

His attorney did NOT classify him; ONLY the BOP can do that. If he is a MED it is because that is what the government thought he should be and there pretty much is no changing it until "thye" do it.

When my loved one entered the federal system I visited him at Schuylkill. He has been at the medical center at Devens for nearly 2 years now. He should return to Schuylkill soon though. Anyone else visit there? We are from Maryland. And we are possibly facing a very long bid.

My Mother is in FMC Carswell. From what she says it is an absolutely terrible place. She is a non-violent offender on a bank fraud charge and she is now housed in a place with murderers, sexual predators, weapons charges, etc. She is absolutely miserable. This is my first time posting. My brother is in FCI Elkton in Ohio. He has been there for 2 years now. He comes home in 2011. I haven't been to see him in Ohio because I live so far away in Mass and he doesn't want family to see him in prison. He just had a re-sentencing hearing the 29th. I was able to see him during the hearing. The judge gave him the same sentence of 108 months.

My husband just self surrendered Dec. 2nd at the Rochester Federal Medical Center in Minnesota. He got a mandatory minimum 10 yrs.

He is there in a conspiracy to distribute charge and his release date without the drug program is 7/24/2005. My ex-Husband is at north kern IRC in California for posession of drugs. He was caught on a weapons charge while at a drug rehab. He had a 4-year joint suspension sentence. Does anyone know if he has to do 50% or 85% of his time.

My husband is at FPC Pensacola, 15 month sentence.

My husband is going to McRae Correctional Institute which is in Georgia. It is a Federal prison privately owned by Corrections Corp of America and I have not been able to find out much info about it on the net. Hopefully someone will be able to guide me on where I can find out more than just the basic info about the prison.

My best friend is currently at the North East Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown, Ohio (also owned by Corrections Corp) He was told it was a holding facility for federal prisoners until FCI Elkton is ready to take the next group. He has been there for three weeks now, although the inmate locater still has him listed as 'Not in BOP custody'.
He got a twelve month sentence for obstruction of justice, and was told he could be out in August. I was able to visit for an hour behind glass last week. He says it is cold and overcrowded. The flu is going around, and there is not much to read. One good thing...he quit smoking.

My honey will be moving to FCI Gilmer.

Big Spring CI, the privately run satellite camp in Big Springs, TX. I just left him after her self surrrendered 4 hours ago and am desperately seeking ANY info on this facility. The staff there seemed super nice and good, but I know nothing about the facility or inmates there.

My man is in FCI Elkton, just accepted 1/1/06 serving a 21 month sentence. It is about 4 & 1/2 hours from me so I don't know if I'll be able to manage a visit before his birthday in July. He say its very cramped, overcrowed and NO programs available to help pass the time.

My Baby is in Elkton, Ohio which is a 5 hour drive from wherer I live in MD.

I met quite a few people from Michigan who love ones are there and it is about a hour less time for them. He has 2255 pending so prayerfully his time would be cut back tremendously, otherwise he has a while to go. We are trusting GOD!

He has been there for about 5 years now and you thought maybe it would have gotten a little better. It only gets worst.... that is the facility.

The one post that I read in here about the FPC in Miami was not to encouraging. If it is holding place for transfers and there is nothing to do no place to work and you can't go outside why in the world would the judge and my atorney and PO recommend that I stay there for the 5 months? That is tje time I have been senteced too. Sounds great to be close to home, but would I sit in a cell and just wait around all day. Does anyone know what it is like at the camp in Miami now??????? Help!LOL

I just got my letter, I am going to FCC Coleman,SCP. I don't know why I am reacting to this like I am. I am afraid and scared all over agin. I can't seem to find info about Coleman and I know that I have read so many posts regarding that Prison. I report on April 7th. Sorry about my whinny, shakey post.

My roomate is in FDC Miami awaiting assignment. I have been trying to research admission criteria for Coleman Low security. He has a drug problem and could do well iin the drug rehab program there (I think). His crime is not drug related however under the influence he did make bad decisions. Does anyone know what it takes to get into the drug program there? He has been in for only a few weeks but I guess assigment to his "permanent" prison is coming up. HELP!

I have a loved one at USP Atwater and another at USP Lompoc. I live about 1 1/2 hours from Atwater and about 3 hours from Lompoc. They were at USP Victorville and that was a 6 hour drive. I guess we are at least lucky that California has so many USP's for the BOP to choose from or I might end up having to fly to Colorado or something crazy like that.

My brother was at Florence but he's now in Victorville. BOP put him in a USP at 22 years old. Don't know why they would put him there considering his age.

My fiance is at Otisville, NY. He was sent there yesterday from being detained for 3 months, he was put in the hole today for a misunderstanding with a CO. No more phone calls for me. He only has 4 more months any way. He got 8 months for violating his probation. He was last sent to Mckean In PA three years ago. That was a long drive 8 hours. Now I will only have to travel about 3 but I have a new born baby, so it still won't be easy.

I was told by a guard at USP Allenwood to write a letter of complaint to the warden. He said if enough complain they may change policy. It is a problem in all Fed prisons.

I have been to USP Allenwood many times the ionscan is crazy. I was denied 2 times. There isn't anything in Allenwood so I'm sure there isn't no Greyhoud. You would have to rent a car once you got off the bus. Just to get to the USP Allenwood

Good luck with USP Allenwood, I've been there a few times. It's great when your man/husband is close, my man is now only 3 hours from me. USP Allenwood is a long drive 6 hours from me.

My old, 65 to be exact, just arrived at Taft. He has been to three different facilities in 3 1/2 weeks. Is this normal? He is only serving 5 months for a white collar offense. He does have medical needs and they did not know where to put him. Hopefully Taft will be better that MCC in San Diego.

My daughter was originally contracted to the state prison, here in Iowa. An easy 2 hour drive so her 5 daughters could visit regularly. Today she is in Oklahoma waiting to be sent to Danbury CT! My daughter is in FCI Tallahassee. She was arrested in Farmer City Texas, and spent just short of a year in Lew Sterritt while the state and the feds argued about who was going to handle the case. The feds ended up with it.

She called last night to say that she has been officially redesignated to Carswell, but we don't know when she will actually be moved.

We live in Illinois. We were hoping for Greenville, and the judge recommended it, but so much for that.

My son is at Edgefield Camp since 3-27-06. He has 50 weeks and 5 days until going to halfway house. I know this isn't as long as some of you have but it has brought me down tremendously. I feel the hurt of all of you and I pray constantly for everyone in the Federal Prison System.

Hi, Just found your thread. My son is serving a life sentence and was moved to the French Robertson Unit in Abilenem Texas. I on the other hand live in Rheinland Pfalz, Germany which is a considerable more than 500 miles, I finally got to fly home for a visit last year and it had been ten years since I had seen him. It was hard knowing it would probably be another ten years of saving to do again but kust to see the smile on his face was words it all and then some. He didn´t know I was coming so when he walked in and saw me he did a double take before it hit home that it was really his Mom. We had four wonderful visits as my daughter had arranged it with the warden being I live where I do, he allowed me extra visits which I really appreciated. As I said that was last year in May but letters keep us close in spirit until we can hug each other again.

You can go to the Federal Bureau of Prison's website and do an Inmate search for your cousin's name and it will tell you what prison he is in. You can click on the name of the prison and it will give you information about the facility including a mailing address for the staff and the mailing address for the inmates----they are different so make sure you send mail to the proper address. Also you should also check the rules and regulations regarding that facility because in most cases you cannot send anything in with your letters. Make sure you put his identification number on all correspondence also.

If you need help finding the Federal Bureau of Prison's website, just do a search for BOP and it will bring it up.

On the top menu bar, select inmate locator. From there...you can type his first and last name. Once the name comes up...sometimes there will be multiple with same name, click on the location. It will open a page with address and other information.

He has about 115 days left before 10/16/06, he has been an inmate since 10/02. He really hasn't received much information other than his date of release to halfway house. I have found that the information provided on BOP website is very acurate concerning release dates.

My husband is at FCI Terminal Island in San Pedro,CA. After reading all of the above and how far they put some of your loved ones I can't complain anymore. I have to drive about seven hours to see him. I'm hoping the 18 month wait for a transfer doesn't pertain to people who were designated at the wrong security level of prison. My husband was supposed to serve in a federal camp and now is serving at a "medium" but they call it "low", even the bop site states it with both security levels. Does anyone know if it's an 18 month wait no matter what?

My husband was sentenced 4-20-06. To 17.5 yrs Just transfered to Leavenworth KS. 5 hrs away from Iowa. It's a drive but nothing can keep me away. My first visit was last weekend. I intended on visiting Sat & Sun. Was told can only visit one time on the weekends. Was bummed but will plan accordingly next month.

I took him yesterday then drove 9 hours back home. I'm so, so sad. I held up okay until I got home a little after midnight last night, but them when I got home and his clothes and things were everywhere, i just fell apart. I feel so empty.:broken::broken:

My daughter, Jacquelyn, was sentenced in Dallas to 51 months for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. Her projected out date is 06/08.

She was serving her time in FCI Tallahassee up until early June. She is currently in FTC OK awaiting the final leg of her transfer to FMC Carswell. She has been 'in route' more than a month. She was in the Grady County Detention Center from the 6th of June until just 2 days ago because of the overflow at FTC OK. In all that time she was not allowed outside once - no sunshine and no fresh air in over a month. :( So she was thrilled when she got transfered to FTC OK because she at least got some fresh air and saw the sun.

We live in Illinois. We requested Pekin, and the Judge recommended it, but they sent her to Tallahassee anyway. Tallahassee is almost impossible to get out of - except for the Life Connections Program. So, now she is on her way back to Texas for that.

Tell you how stupid the Feds are...my son was in Leavenworth (military), discharged from the military while incarcerated, so they put Leavenworth as his HOME. Duh??? So, those of you who are a few hours away...thank your lucky stars. Byron has been shot-free for over five years, held down jobs, taken classes and correspondence courses. No transfer. decided to call fdc sheridan myself and ask them directly and it is true indeed that only immediate family can visit, but i think i will still be able to go since i am pregnant with our baby, and if not when i am pregnant, after i have the baby... so there is still hope!

My Husband just 'checked in' to FMC Butner today. He was able to make a phone call right away since I was at home in Florida, which eased my mind quite a bit. He said everyone was really nice and it wasn't at all what he expected. Great news for me... I have been a mess wondering how he was going to fare.

My husband was transfred yesterday to FCI Coleman Low. I just got a call from him, He's so excited!! He said he likes everything but the dormitories wich are not like in Miami FDC, in Coleman they all sleep in the same room with a divider every three persons, He also told me that i can visit him on Saturday or Sunday wich ever i like the best but they will take out 3 of the 9 points he has for visiting. So i can only see him like three times per month if i always go on the weekends, but if you can visit during weekdays (wich i can't :-( )They will only take out 1 point each time so that gives you 9 visits a month!!

Leslieyosbe, that's a sucky system for visitation "points." Bummer.

Matt is at the Schuylkill Camp which everyone thinks is so great. The BOP has no money to fix or improve anything, and in the year he's been there things have deteriorated.

BTW, I am totally addicted to PTO.

Hello all....I just had share this....My husband was at MDC Brooklyn pretrial....Then they told him he was designated for there as well....All of a sudden they moved him to MCC New York....I was SOOOO happy...after all he was even closer to me......I SAW HIM ONCE!!!! Those folks took away his visits for 9 MONTHS!!!! This means I wont be seeing my husband till next year.....OKAY so here is the ironic part..MCC New York is across the park from my job....Every morning I see the building and know my heart is right there.....and yet I cant see him......so close and yet soooooo far.....:angry:

Hi folks. My husband (newly wed 3/25/06) just self reported to Manchester KY on 8/23. I live in NC and I'm going to visit this weekend for the first time. I'd love to hear from any one who has been there and can let me know about the visitation. I know the hours etc, I want to know if it's crowded, did you wait long, etc. Also interested in any opinions you have about the camp. He's only there for 11 months, and I know from what I've read, I am one of the lucky ones. It's a 7 hour drive which is long but at least I can get there. I would like motel recommendations too. We are going to pick up our son on Monday from Fort Dix. He has been there since July of 03. We have not seen him since June of 05. We will be taking him to a half way house. They are giving us exactly 6hrs to have him check in to half way house. He will be released at 10:00 AM and he has to check in by 4:15 PM. We live in Pittsburgh which is a six hour drive. His release date is 12/13/06.

My brother is heading there right after the first of the year and our family is trying to find out anything we can for him. he got into trouble and i was brought down with him before even knowing what was happeneing. He got 27 months in florence minimum security and i got 5 years probation. grateful to be able to be home for my kids....I also have his two now to help with and we are just trying to find out everything we can on this facility. my husband is in loretto, pa and we live in a rural area of northeast Texas! We rode 48 hours on the train this summer to visit him and even ended up on a greyhound bus for the last 9 hours! we were really beat but got to see him 3 days in a row, about 6 hours each day. He read the same book about bugs to our son each day! By the last reading everyone in the visiting room including the officers were tired of the bug book! It was nice to see people smiling in an otherwise tense situation.:p I think of it everytime i see a bug book!!:)

My hubby reorted to FPC Yanton SD but was transferred within 24 hours to FMC Rochester due a health concern. I am lucky, both places are within a 4 hour drive of where we live. I take it this is not the norm? The judge ordered they place him close to home being we have 5 children.

Does anyone know how long a person will stay in an FMC when they have heart problems, severe asthma, GERD and is needing a knee replacement?

I am new here too. I did locate this forum before my husband went in. I have found vast amounts of info that have help me. My husband has only been in for 6 days. I know exactly what you are feeling.

I have found that my mind was my worst enemy. What I did not know, my mind filled in the blanks. So I have sat at this computer for hours 'researching' the system and the institution that my husband is at. This filled in those gaps and gave me the confidence to post questions about the gaps there were not filled.

I have also found that my strong faith in God and Jesus Christ have kept me at peace (for the most part), helped me find the strength for my 5 children, helped me cry my heart out day after day!

Each person copes and heals at there own pace. If you feel like being busy be busy. If you feel like crying then cry! These feeling that you are feeling is the grief process and is very normal. I am still just going through the motions....and I am sure that I will be for a long time. But each day there is one less second that my mind is not greiving. And that second is replaced with faith and love for everyone I know and love.

Sometimes I don't think the shock factor goes away, You just get used to having it around. My guys in Jesup GA FCI has been almost 9 years now with 3 more before they will let him out. My hubby is at FMC Rochester and will be in for almost 5 years. I feel like such a short timer compared to most that are in here talking.

I just had a set back this afternoon. The clothes that he wore in just arrived here. Never expected that one. I am one that needs preparation.

How have you kept yourself together through the years?

Don't Know that I have. I have fallen a lot since he went in. With two kids to support it made it even harder. And it doesn't matter whether he has 5 months , 5 years or 15 years I know it hurts all the same. I just got off the phone with mine and it didn't go well and the calls are so short that when two people really need to talk you can't and I think it makes it worse because you can't explain or get the explainatin you need. But I am trying to find ways to keep busy , looking for a new job, gone back to school, and my son has me going to a new church he belongs to. I really hate that the guys inside really don't understand that we are doing time with them and the outside can be a lot harder sometimes.

I absolutely can relate with that. The part about us doing time too. I tried to explain to him that very thing before he left. We are out raising the kids (I have 5) and dealing with his family and ex-wives, planning visitations with kids, running a daycare and doing it solo. In fact I told him that I would rather go in and him stay here and deal with day to day life without me. I personally think its more punishment on the outside than the inside. Shoot you don't have time to get into trouble!

I will be starting school in February and am very active with my church and the kids so that keeps me busy. But I still miss the pep talks from him in the evenings giving me the motivation for one more day. And its only been a week.:angry: But I write him lengthy letters every nite to unwind and keep him involved with the family stuff. Its gets if off my chest and keeps me sane.

Yeah whenever I mention how hard it is out here I get the"I'd trade with you any minute " routine. Sure, raise a family alone, work enough hours to keep a roof over your families head and clothes onthem , food in them, plus birthdays and holidays. Plus deal with all their daily problems and keep them in school and make it to all there games and, the biggest one explain to them for the hundredth time why Daddy's not home. It isn't easy out here at all. Wow 5 how young? My youngest is 15and oldest is 17 both with the guy Iam with now, but I had gotten married shortly after he went in to someone else and that went bad real fast so we split but a earlier this year I saw him at a party and well anyways I got pregnant, he was out of the state as soon as he found out so I decided to give the baby up for adoption to a "normal" home with two parents and big familys and financially secure cause it has been an incredible struggle raising just the two I've got now. The baby wetn to family fiends who I just love to death and they love him just as much and it feels kinda good to be able to make that family so happy, but I miss my baby a lot. I will say though my ex husband who is the one in jail did take that news pretty well. He actually called a lot just to see how I was feeling and stuff during the pregnacy. The real father didn't do that. So I know all this time in prison has definately mellowed him out. Hope it lasts when he gets out too though. Do you ever get to go see yours?

Well it has only been a week since he went behind. But he is only 3.5 hours away so I will be able to go often enough. Not often enough for my tastes or his but more than some others. We are a Brady bunch family with each had two before we met 4 years ago. We got married ahortly after I got pregnant with the 'ours' baby. So we have kids spanning from 18 to 2. Three girls and 2 boys. We both love our step-children so much that we feel that they were our all along.

You probably made the right decision though with your baby. I am glad to hear that you are able to see him too. You did a wonderful thing for the other couple and your family too. Can you imagine being split in a third direction and your older children feeling that they lost a part of Mom too and not just there Dad. It also sound like you have a great man that you are waiting on. Are you going to get re-married once he comes home? Are you close enough to visit often?

I am thankful for the wonderful church that I am and have been involved with here. They have been more supportive than family for me. I am also thankful that I had been raising my older two children by myself before I met my husband. I don't think I would have the comfort that I have now if this were a brand new situation. We can all make it through this with the support of God, our significant other, children and the PTO! every little bit helps!

I know that this was an older post. But, I haven;t been able to find any in the US Penitentiary in Beaumont, TX. My son, Wesley, is there. He will be for a long time, unless I can ever get him moved back to Memphis, TN. I don't see that happening. He said there have been SIX murders there this past year in prison. Imagine that! I would like to talk to people that have someone there. He is in the High Level.

There is no Federal parole. You have to serve 85 % of ur setence, unless u do RDAP or something...

Was yours in actual high security at Beaumont? My son is there. I was lucky enough to make the trip from Memphis, TN with my now 84 yr old mother, on New Years Eve. He hasnt see me in over a year since he was transferred there from Pollock, LA. He was surprised and happy to see us! I am waiting for the pictures we took and want to post them, if I can. I was shocked he had lost 40 pounds which he needed to, but he is having to buy most of the stuff out of commissary to eat half way decent food to take better care of himself. He is running five miles a day, and taking what class he can to have a better attitude, and trying to stay out of trouble. They don't have any classes to take except a computer class. He is waiting to take his GED test. That way he can have a job to make a little more money. It is very expensive to families that have to support them if they don't have a job in UNICORE or something that is half way self supporting. Phone calls are outrageous. We had no trouble visiting New Year's Eve. It was not crowded at all. I guess because everyone came at Christmas. The prison is off the main path and is hard to find in Beaumont, so no wonder no one can come often. It is so far away. Gale

sugarbearsmom-i am still new at this but its my understading if you were on his psi you dont have to fill out a form but my son said we got approved friday[so almost 3 weeks] you might call the prison and ask,my son is at a different prison so it could be different. also my son got 1 free call from the counselor but he had to find that out from another prisoner.

Now the BOP has him listed at USP Atwater .....even futher north. They really don't care that it's going to be hard on the family to visit with him being so far from everyone. Oh well...just have to wait for that letter letting me know he's OK:o

I pulled up my own form and filled it out and sent it to a counselor where my fiance was. I was driving them nuts because it was a couple of weeks, I think, before I heard from him and all I knew about the prison system is what I had seen on TV so I had all these horrible thoughts going through my head of what was going on. Anyway, they take their sweet time and the prisoner pretty much has to find out from other prisoners what to do, if they have never been incarcerated before then they don't know what to do. The counselor will meet with him within the first week or so, he will go through this orientation and probably bombarded with rules and procedures. At this time they will receive the forms to fill out for phones, you have to be on their phone list before they can call you, because they do a check to make sure you aren't a witness or someone who the inmate might try to intimidate or threaten, they they approve you to be on their list and they can call you. The inmate is given a visitation form to send to people he wants on it visitors list and immediate family doesn't have to go through a background check, but everyone else does before they are approved to visit. I was so worried I started calling the facility and talked to a counselor and I found the form on the BOP website, if you want I can tell you where to look, you fill it out and sign it and send it to the counselor's attention. Then they will tell the inmate when you are approved and it is up to the inmate to notify the visitor that they have been approved. I think the inmates are either overwhelmed with procedures and forms and are confused what to do or the powers that be just give them a little info and they have to figure stuff out for themselves. It is definitely an education in red tape, the breauocratic bull. I will be happy to share with you the information I have found and learned through trial and error.

I wrote letters to a number of people, wasn't even sure who to write to about transferring him closer to home and quoted that they say on their website they encourage visits from friends and family for morale, but it didn't matter. They transferred him 1000 miles away and now they are transferring him again to only 800 miles away-wow. It cost me 500 to go see him where they had him and that hurt, don't have an extra 500 hardly ever, didn't this time either but did it anyway, really puts a hardship on the families. Plus they have to buy a lot of things they need and they only make 20cents or so an hour and their fines come out first so yes it's really a hardship on the families.

My fiance is at Pekin in Illinois and I was just denied visitation! I am on probation could that be the reason y!

My guess is that is the reason you were denied visitation, especially if you are on probation for a felony, they can't associate with known fellons according to the rules, but I don't know about misdemeanors.

My son is going to Taft this week. We don't know if it's going to be camp or low. When will we find out? He would know as soon as he gets there or at least that was our case. It is apparently decided before he gets there, maybe in PSI, not sure. I took my fiance when he had to report and went inside with him and they told him then he was going to the camp and gave me his drivers license then took him away, we got to hug before they took him into the fenced area, we reported to the office part where you go to visit. They aren't allowed anything from the outside, but their glasses and/or contacts and they did let him keep a tiny piece of paper that we wrote a couple of phone numbers on because now with the age of cell phones no one can remember numbers since they don't have to dial them, so I typed a list of phone numbers and mailed to him so he could put them on his list.

My husband was just moved to Rochester, due to medical needs. He is now 11 hours away from me! The Central Office said he could not be transfered to Springfield, Mo (less than an hour from our home) because his "security level" wasn't high enough to be put into that facility.
However, I have heard of several non-violent offenders there. Any info on Springfield, Mo Medical? Thanks,

Isn't it sad that we are closer to others ones loved ones then our own! I would do anything to have My Man in Maryland or PA! :( Wish we could do the switch! We'd make many families happy!

About transfering closer to home.....I was told if he had a close family member that had a severe illness...that would work best! Having a doctor write...taking it to your congressmen....sending it to the prison...something like that! With alot of support to back it up. However no one is that ill...and I would not wish that on anyone just to get him closer! So...I wait! :(

I had all of that! Sent the letter from his mother's Dr. I did not go to a congressman, I sent it to the Central Office in DC, and they moved him as far as they could away from all family, for no known reason.She is 85 years old, and the last time I took her to see him, the CO gave her a hard time due to being able to see her bra strap. She came in , with a walker, but they made her turn around several times, and acted as though she would not get to stay! She has had several strokes, and this upset her so much, the Dr. said He no longer wanted her travel. She also has emphazema, and had a hard time catching her breath. He was, in Forrest City, Ar. at the time. (5 hours away) Now he is 11 to 12 hours away.

My Grandson is in Coleman Federal Prison in Florida, any one else have loved one's in Coleman? I will be going on my first visit soon and I am very nervous because I don't know all the rules. Colemans web site is very vague.

Nessa...I wouldn't think about relocating just yet. With a long sentence, he is more likely then not going to cruise through a few facilities. Fairton is not actually to far from here...under 2 hours drive and it's an easy one. I took a ride out there not long ago because we 'thought' thats where our next stop would be but...boppy ways don't always stop where it's suppose to! :p

You'll want to look in the 'state forum'. This area is for federal prisons so generally, most are not familiar with state facilities.

My daughter who is 24 is in Alderson Federal Prison Camp and has been there since Halloween 06 and has about 1 year to go (9 months with good time) We were able to drop her off there because of self surrender. It was very hard for us. She had a cancer scare which she was operated on just before she went in. They gave her a check up after I called down and explained the situation. I am glad for this. We worry so much. She sent us a picture and she is so thin she was smiling and she is staying positive. She has a job there that she likes and it keeps her busy. We have not been able to visit. We are so far away, but we are going down in June. She has email, we write and she calls when she can. We hope for the best and pray every minute. I will pray for all of you also. Keep the faith. Every day that passes is one day closer to the return day home.

My friend is in the Federal Detention Center in Miami. They were supposed to transfer him, as this is supposedly a holding center, but he gets out in Sept. of this year, so I guess he will remain there until then.:confused:

When I called the facility, they told me he was there for at least 18 months, could be longer though. He was sentenced 9 years. With good behavior, does anyone know how long that is?

bop.gov is usually the way to find if he has been transported to Forrest City, Ark. yet, as Irshnrse stated. I am just curious, Forrest City has only a camp, and medium security there. Which one is he being sent to? More than likely it will be medium for a long time. Are you sure he is in a federal facility and not State? There is no parole, but they are given good days. State gives parole. I would give anything if my son were in Forrest City. It would only be a four hour drive instead of ten. There isn't a high security in Forrest City. More than likely the system has him in Oklahoma central prison where they transport them. It will show up in the system eventually, where he is at. It can take a month or longer to be transported, depending on where he is coming from. Good luck.

I live in Florida and my Richie is in USP Canaan, Penn......I have a question maybe somebody can answer...I am planning on visiting him the first time in February 2008 and I emailed the prison last night tryin to get info about visiting and some other stuff and I get a email back this morning saying that he declined to sign the release of informartion....Do they tell them who in inquiring about the information? or is it something that is in their file? If anybody has any answers that would help me out alot...i'm just going through everything in my head and I always have the worst thoughts that he has changed his mind about his and I relationship....anyway..thanks for the help guys....keep ya head up :D

FCI Manchester, KY, For me it's 45 minutes to the airport, 90 minutes to clear Customs and board the plane, 2 hour flight to Washington DC, wait 90 minutes, connect to 90 minute flight to Knoxville, drive 3 hours to Manchester and love every second I can spend with my Sweetheart for the weekend and then repeat in reverse and wait another few months. PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!

My son just transferred to SANDSTONE FCI. He was previously evacuated from Beaumont after hurricane Rita to Leavenworth in Kansas and now he is in Minnesota. He is on the upper bunk and has a window that he can open and feel the breeze. So far he seems to like it there even though it is a low facility and the living conditions are a little different.

That's nice he can feel the breeze.

Softlips, I hate it that he is gone for 6 years but what can I do:( But I get to talk to him about 1-2 times a day for 15 minutes. And we send about 2 letters a week sometimes. Right now for the past few weeks I haven't been doing too good. The last time we spoke (approx. 2 weeks ago) I "chopped" his head off for not writing a letter since July '07. In the beginning of our relationship---friendship & dating, we wrote fairly regularly. Now, I am lucky to get at least 3 pieces of mail....he says it is hard, can't find "peace", or doesn't have something interesting to say. I know that the time will get harder when it is almost time for him to be out....but this is RIDICULOUS!!!! I am having doubts whether or not to stay. can't talk to his mom....whole other story.....feeling very vulnerable, not appreciated, missing him terribly, would like to hear from him...etc. He was transferred to more than 18 hours ---driving distance away, so I have only been able to see him once, since the transfer, which is unusual. we have been through a myriad of things...including transfer, but this distance is shutting me down. I want to be supportive, but I want a "balanced" relationship. not to mention our spiritual/religious beliefs is getting to me....ok....enuf for now. as you can see I am a bit stressed. but I thank you, and am grateful that you asked. how are you? :o

My man is in Coleman, FL - I am in Minnesota. He started out here and is constantly being bounced around - so moving to be where he is would be kind of crazy cause they could bounce him at any time. He was in Marion, IL for 7 years and we are hoping to get a transfer back to MN (where he started and where he belongs!!!!!)

Softlips, I can understand how you are feeling, we all can. I know that my fiance, who DOES write, so I am lucky, often tells me he has nothing to say, the days are all the same and he says that compared to my letters, where I'm full of news about my "normal" days, he feels like his letters are the most boring on earth. So maybe that's what's bothering your man; plus, for some people, writing is very hard work. Not everybody, but some people think it's torture and it's no reflection on their feelings for you. Hope this helps!

Does Anyone Know Of The Halfway Houses In Ny? Where Are They? How Would You Find Out? THIS IS FOR FEDERAL INMATES.

My Tommy is in USP Coleman 1 in FL but has been in Talladega AL, Butner(sp?) NC, Somewhere in Indiana and now Coleman ona 16.5 yr sentence. He applied for a transfer to Tucson since I am 110 miles from there, but he was denied this week...Yes he has not had a clean record while inside as he has to survive and keep the gang members away. He only has 29 months left so I suppose it will have to be spent in Coleman 1..Denied on an increase population transfer request so he is trying others... I will try to visit AFTER Christmas in early January so hope not too crowded...I have not seen him in 23 years..He has been locked up in and out since 1984 when we broke up..I told him he should have moved to Iceland with me...but being a southern boy he would not go, what could I do?...Now we have to wait!

hello people , i am new to the federal prison dept.. my neighbor hooked me up with her cousin who is currently in Fci- Fairton New Jersy. i dont know anything about the federal system

Lompoc FPC. I took him to self-surrender on Friday, no clue when I'll be allowed to visit or when he'll be able to call. It was close to a 6 hour drive, so I'm investigating train/plane options now.

Hi I M NEW TO THIS. My brother is in Yazoo City, Mississippi. Can anyone inform me about this prison and what is all the talk about points and miles? I do not know anything about prisons or the federal system. I would be forever grateful if someone could inform me. My mother is going crazy. We live in Texas yet he was sent so far away. Could anyone answer my why? Please help!

I hate it when all you get is we'll check into it and get back to ya!!! i have a "friend" who is in Allenwood med and im trying to help him with a transfer or early release, and i aint got nowhere it sucks....... He has done more than half his time. and complied with everything but the system sucks it really does....

Hello, First time here, My son is at Leavensworth, Kansas Federal Prison Camp. Anyone else have someone there? He is going to a halfway House in Mulwaukee, Wi. in Jan. till the end of June.

My Dear is at Allenwood Low at the moment.

My husband is currently serving his time at the Duluth FPC in Minnesota. We are residents of Lincoln, NE. Takes me 9.5 hrs to drive to see him. I am able to take my son once a month to see. It is crazy how they state with in 500 miles . Must be talking about air not grounds....lol.....

First, i'm so sorry for your family at this time. the deal with sending him so far away is to make certain there are no contacts to that "former life". My lamont's from Florence, south carolina but was sent to Jonesville, va... 500 miles plus... and he's in the mountains... wonderful "neighbors" up that way and they have very little appreciation for the "color persuation"... just do what you can with visitation and letters... i have no idea about the point system... why not pm Fed-x? he may have what you're looking for... be blessed, it will only get better!

Petersburg va. the judge said to place him close to family. only a 7 hour ride 90.00 in gas hotel 89.99 plus food. I go twice a month i am from NJ. It pisses me off when I see most of the vistors car plates are Virginia the are locals and can visit all the time if I don't have 300 bucks I can't see him. Bop sucks

MY MAN IS IN TEXARKANA FCI HE WAS JUST MOVED 6 MO. AGO, THEY HAD HIM IN MISSISSIPPI BEFORE . HIS MOM WAS SENT TO DANBURY,CT. AND WE JUST GOT WORD LAST NIGHT THAT SHE WAS BEING MOVED TO TEXAS THIS WEEK... IT TOOK HER 3 YEARS TO GET THE TRANSFER APPROVED. NOW WE WILL ALL BE IN TEXAS ONCE AGAIN!!!

the US marshal told me my boyfriend was going to FCI Herlong CA. they took him 3days ago i havent heard from him and now on the BOP inmate locater it says that he is in USP Victorville in Adelanto CA. what is the deal? he is a 1st timer and they took a whole year before even sentencing him. then they gave 20months but his projected release is in 14 months does that mean they included good time? I am new to all this so any advice would be great!

Good time Credit is computed in from the start so yes...the projected date includes good time. It sounds like he has some extra credit there too...had he been held a few months prior to being sentenced?

Just keep checking the BOP locator...it will update if he is moved again which is always a possibility. As soon as he is able to contact you...he will. Hang in there!

My boyfriend is in FCI-Gilmer which is in WV. We live in Raleigh, NC it is a 6 hour drive for me on a good day. i have a medical condition that limits my driving. I was wondering if someone could direct me as to how to find other loved ones in my state that might be traveling to the same area so maybe we could do some type of carpool. I really want to see him for Christmas and I have found this site to so helpful.

Wrong...the projected release date is usually the best it gets (unless he gets some credit for RDAP). IF he gets in trouble...and has GTC taken away as part of the punishment, you can see that date move further into the future.

That must explain the time difference...he must be getting credit for some or all of that time as he should unless it was under another charge.
