View Full Version : I Need Help Bad!!!!!!
Tereasa88 11-20-2002, 06:06 PM Ok my comp is going nuts. I can not get into my computer, my documents, recylce bin nothing like that, Not even settings from the start menu. What happens is when I first click on it it says
No connection to the internet to view internet content stored on your comp click work offline or try again
I do that then it says
Explorer - this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
I click close that and then it pops up
There was an internal error and 1 of the windows you were using will be closed. It is recommended that you save work, close all programs and restart comp
I have restarted comp a million times, defragged it, ran scan disk and nothing has helped.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE OR SOMETHIGN ELSE I CAN TRY TO FIX IT WITHOUT DUMPING WHOLE HARD DRIVE AND REFORMATTING???????
ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
Soul SLiver 11-20-2002, 06:22 PM oh dear....well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds a LOT like the worm virus I had right before my computer hit the bricks. Call your computer manufacturer and let them know what's going on, they'll walk you through a full virus detection (in ms dos - yuck!) and hopefully they'll be able to fix it for you...if not...oi...off the the computer store you go :(
Tereasa88 11-20-2002, 06:28 PM SHIT SHIT SHIT HEHE THIS IS THE DETAILS OF THE ILLEGAL ERROR SCREEN IF THIS MIGHT BE ABLE TO TELL YOU IF IT IS WAHT YOU HAD?

Valerie 11-20-2002, 07:36 PM I'm sorry I don't know much about this stuff.Hopefully Toe will read this soon, he know's about everything.
I don't know which Operating System you're running, but usually Invalid Page Fault errors are caused by memory problems. ie....a program tries to write info where it's not supposed to, you have some damaged RAM, or a program currently running on your computer is already using the RAM when it gets another request and kaboomb...implosion. I've never heard of QCBAR.DLL ...is that the full error message you get every time, what you posted above? Let me know what OS your machine is running and I'll have a look around. In the meantime, you might wanna think if you've installed any new software lately? Any new hardware? New printer or monitor? If something is corrupted, it could be from a new installation of one of these devices. I don't think QCBAR.DLL is a microsoft OS dll...sounds to me like it's come along with another program or device.
sorry I can't offer many suggestions.
Soul SLiver 11-20-2002, 08:49 PM Sounds like Windows ME, but might be 98. If it's XP, sheesh, dell doesn't even know how to help me with mine.
I did a search on my computer for that .dll file, I don't have it. Maybe it's program specific, and I want to say Quickbooks, but that might not be it. Quark?
Soul SLiver 11-20-2002, 08:50 PM This is throwing me a bit...

compuserve?
Win ME?
People actually use that?
B-Ray 11-20-2002, 10:35 PM Who does? Well I've been using Win ME for two years now and it works just fine on my Dell. But I do have all the current patches automaticly since day one. In fact an update is downloading right now.
NO I'm not restarting ..........click LOL
I've heard that alot B-Ray, it's just one of those operating systems that's either really stable, never have a problem with...or it's a horror story, always acting up. Just seems like there's no 'in-between' with windowsME. Hey, that rhymes...maybe Gates could use it for a slogan?!? :D
B-Ray 11-21-2002, 12:10 AM I don't know, but I think the speed of the harddrive might play a roll in things too? My home built mo-sheen had a 5400 RPM HD and 98se gave fitttts some times! This new mo-sheen (2yr old) is running a 10K RPM HD and I'm running more Ram also, so really can't tell for sure.
Defrag'n is always a help when there is a problem. At least you know, all the pieces are together. The last time I did mine, it looked like a shotgun blast hit it. LOL
Fed-X 11-21-2002, 12:41 AM I've got a Dell and XP Pro and I love it.. I could leave it on for months on end.. (I did and it burned up my laptop hard drive! :p How bout that 3 year NBD warranty! :) )
Back to the topic of this thread...
Tereasa88, it would be helpful if you could tell us what Operating System your computer is using.. It may be a worm,or it may be your system is cratering. Do you use any type of "Disk Doctor" program such as Norton? System Works really does work.. Please give us details.
Thanks,
David
jakrusedenco 11-21-2002, 11:19 AM toe has some good advice here, also Fed-X. remember that the first step in figuring out what is going on is to let us know what the puter is - make, model, speed, RAM, HD, etc etc etc.
i have not seen this particular .dll before and a quick search of the MS soft did not reference to any known MS software or other vendor's software that has previously been reported to MS. i have see the 'invalid page fault' pop up on just about every OS that MS has made. i run win2k pro and have seen it there. and i go back to windows 3.0! it really does sound like a memory issue tho, like toe said. perhaps you stick of memory is failing. not a big deal to change out and prices are a lot less than they used to be,
one other thing to watch out for - Windows has what has been called - the creeping crud! i know that a lot of people turn off their machine by the power button. if at all possbile NEVER turn your machine off this way. always try to close windows the appropriate way, or if that won't work, then the '3 fingered salute' - CTRL-ALT-DEL twice. why? when windows shuts down, it writes all kinds of info into a file for the nextg time it starts up. if you just shut off the machine by the power button, this file is not updated and precious info is lost.
or, it could just be that billy gates' software is severly lacking in stability. gee, imagine that! an unreliable, untested system being sold to the public before it is debugged!
Any one want to swittch fo Unix/Linux???
best of luck to you in this. i know that it can be extremely frustrating!
Jerry
jakrusedenco 11-21-2002, 11:22 AM I just did a quick check on my puter for qcbar.dll. i have tons of 3rd party software installed (20 gig and 45 gig HDs almost full of programs!) and did not find it anywhere. so like Toe suggested, it sounds like something newly added on - new program, hardware, etc.
best of luck.
Soul SLiver 11-21-2002, 03:52 PM I"m running XP and I LOVE it! ME was the pits...constant crashes, blue screens of death, "you have performed and illegal operation and you will disintegrate in 5 seconds because I will eat you" types of messages.
David, I haven't shut my computer down since August...works like a charm! Every now and then (if I'm going out of town...which is...umm...never) I'll turn it off, but I'm far too impatient to wait for it to turn back on :D
The error message sounds an AWFUL lot like ME crap I used to get.
Soul SLiver 11-21-2002, 03:53 PM GEEEEZ UM PEET! I'm goood...I'm way toooo gooood for my own gooood!

It's ME
Tereasa88 11-23-2002, 02:53 PM Sorry guys for not responding sooner I have been trying to find out what the hell is going on and such with my comp. I am running windows 98 and I have not installed anything new for months now. And yes that is the complete message that shows up when this happens. I don't know whats up but it seems that most people are saying I am going to have to dump my hard drive and reformat everything? Does that sound like something I know what I am doing with HAHAAH NOOOOO. So I am hoping one of you brilliant folk will know of some other option to try and thanks thus far for your help!
Tereasa
B-Ray 11-24-2002, 01:07 AM WOW SS, that's a super cool site!!
flygirlaa2 11-24-2002, 06:00 AM Teressa, sorrry your having computer problems, since switching to a mac several years ago, Pooooof....no more problems!!! Love, love, love my mac, but it just doesn't go everywhere I want it to. Not all sites are mac compatiable. Am I the only mac person here?
jakrusedenco 11-24-2002, 06:20 AM ok. so you have installed nothing new. open up Explorer (not IE) and do a search for that file. see where it 'lives' what directory and that should tell you what program it affects and that might help us here to help you figure out what is going on. ONE step at a time!
jakrusedenco 11-24-2002, 08:30 AM i shot an email to my puter guru and here is what he suggests as to the qcbar.dll error: Toe - please don't take offence by my putting my 2 cents and my guru's in here. i am just trying to help out! and learn also!
Find the dll with the file manager and check the version information in the file's properties. This sometimes gives you an idea of what the file does. Knowing what is does give a clue to what is running that dll when it fails. I don't have this dll on my system. My Guess is that it is a speciality Library related to a tool bar.
Also, This may not be the fault of the DLL itself. Your error message says "caused an invalid page fault." An invalid page fault occurs when program code falls over a major boundary in the memory, half of the file in one megabyte of memory space and the other half is in the next one over. "Short Jump" instructions don't work well there. Windows has mechanisms to cope with this problem but they don't always work.
DLL's can go bad. On occasion files do fail. If it is a Microsoft file it can be restored from the original Windows Cabinet (archive file).
I seriously doubt if it is a virus. Unless poorly written viruses don't show themselves.
The DLL failure may not be the file but something like the a stack or buffer filling up.
It is also important that Explorer cause the problem. In this case "Explorer" is Windows Explorer and NOT Internet explorer. Explorer runs the entire GUI display.
Is this failure related to "running time?" How often is the machine rebooted?
Unfortunately, Microsoft engineers tend to suggest reinstalling things. While this "may" fix the problem It is never very satisfying because you never know who the culprit was. If we can tie this DLL to Microsoft then this might not be a bad idea. If the DLL belongs to something else then that program needs to be examined.
Soul SLiver 11-24-2002, 08:37 AM Is this problem only occuring with IE?
ps...i guess I was too BAD for my own good...ha ha ha...mistake noted...
