I'd like to know if anyone would like information about resume hints and job interview tips for ex-felons. A well prepared resume can definitely get someones foot in the door with a prospective employer. Also, there are very good ways to answer that very awkward question, "Have you ever been convicted of a felony."

If anyone is interested I can post some information here.

Yes please. I am very interested in any helpful hints and tips for him finding a job when he gets out (those phone calls are not cheap, the sooner he starts making $$ the better), and I am sure I am not the only one who could use that kind of info.:)

Thank you in advance!

Was there really only one reply to your submission? I'm new here so I'm on unfamiliar ground.

A few facts: I Left Prison Behind January 13, 1978. "There is no reasonable probability that you will live at liberty without violating the law" That was there disclaimer.

From the age of 13 to 33 I spent 17 and half years on the installment plan.

Praise God! I made it. But one of the most difficult adjustments I never made was in the 'world of work'. In the past 27 years since my release I have received payment for work from 41 different companies. Five years ago I determined that I needed to work for myself and have had my own business ever since.

But the whole issue of discovering what career someone from prison should follow and the how of acquiring the skills necessary, etc. etc. needs to be addressed in a major way.

I developed and founded a non-profit organization for working with the hardcore un-employed, then I passed it on to an organization working on westside. My experiences in getting these 41 jobs is a text book in itself of what should and shouldn't be done in finding employment.

My first penpal to be released gets out in May and I would love to send him some tips. He has a pretty hopeless attitude and needs some inspiration.

Thanks!!!

I would like all the info I can get. My significant other has been employed since work release, about 14 years now, but he has had no luck in finding another job. Thank you for any help you can offer.

I was released from prison in April of 1992, I was able to obtain employment and my jobs actually paid more after my conviction then before.

I would be willing to help and answer any questions I can.

My employment prior to incarceration was in criminal justice and social work.
my employment after incarceration has varied tremendously by choice.

I worked at first in a proto type lab at factory for three months, then I sought a career and only switched jobs in the same field from 1993 to 2005 to either increase salary and benefits or to run my own business. PM me with any questions you have.

Cjjack's computer is in for a major overhaul, something that mine should be in for.

She should be back soon, unless she has to buy another, then I don't know.

Ok in case anyone is still wondering... go out on internet & do a search for "functional" resume. It focuses on skills instead of employment history. Have a statement written up (perferably printed out on computer) to answer the standard application question ... Have you comitted a felony? A well thought-out, well written answer should reflect your intelligence & insight. Make copies of your statement & keep them along with your resume. When filling out applications...extremely important... to be neat and spell correctly. Applications get toss in the trash if sloppy. Hope this helps.

heh
they can get tossed for a few more reasons
my office is open 7-3
if someone comes in at 2 and I ask if they are working somewhere else and they say " ummmmm ..no "
if someone comes in and they appear under the influence
if you smell of body odor
if you stink from overpowering cologne
if you act like someone made you come in
if you take an hour to fill in an application and turn it in with only your name on it

to get a job you need to behave like you want to work
not just get the paycheck
