I wondered what ladies in here worked out and could tell me how good jump roping is for you?

what work out do you do and how dedicated are you?
how did you start out?
who works out at home with no money in the budget for a GYM?

I work out -- except I just pulled a calf muscle badly and had to stop for a week. :( I do aerobic dance videos at home, they're a very GOOD, cheap 45 minute workout. I like to dance, so for me it's fun learning new steps and the music helps make it more fun. Also, a lot of public libraries lend them out, too, for free. I've jumped rope but it got very boring for me.

Now I do work out at a gym (curves), which I love because the workout is fast, and I really like the weight training on the machines. Having muscle seems to help me keep weight off much easier.

I have a home gym, treadmill. weight set, ball, and videos.

I work out 6 days a week.I walk at lunch. I walk any time I get. I like to go to the water falls and walk with my daughter on the trails. I have always been active in my life and my family are too!
Jump roping I havent done in some time although I have a rope. You can go to fitness.com and they have a calculater for what activites help you the most. Check it out!

I work out by studying Kung Fu and have been for almost 3 years now. Jumping roping is good for coordination and cardio.

Last summer I was at the heaviest peak I have ever been at and I decided that something needed to change. I got a gym membership and also signed up for a personal trainer. It was expensive, but necessary because no one in my family ever taught me how to watch what I eat, limit portions, etc. Everyone in my family was overweight and had never been to a gym or showed me how to do weights on machines, what muscle groups to tone, etc... The gym and my trainer saved my life in so many ways. It was nice to have a hot guy who was excited to see you cheering you on. I would show up and he told me what to do. It was great. and whenever I felt like I couldnt take anymore, he found ways to motivate me. That summer I dropped between 25-30 pounds. I am so proud of myself. My goal this summer is to do it again! Now I got to the gym and do the classes--Aqua aerobics, kickboxing, and a class called bodypump. I also do the treadmill and eliptical machines upstairs at the gym. I need to be more consistent and watch what I eat again. I really want to continue to lose weight...

Since I started the Atkins diet last year, I am down to 123 lbs with a little help from the liver problems. Pretty much the only working out I am doing is riding my new bike. I love it. I am having a blast on it. I will post a pic from the bike manufactures website.

I work out at the gym at my school. It's part of my tuition anyway, so I might as well use it. I've been working out for a month and a half about 4 days a week. And I actually enjoy it. I'm sure jump roping is very beneficial for you. I have tried it before, but I have never been able to do it long enough to really get a good workout. Before I worked out at the gym, I used to go on hour walks or did taebo. I have to change up my exercise schedule often or I get bored.

I run at home on my treadmill for 16(1mi) 3 x a week... i then do 100 crunches, 50 leg lifts and then 100 reverse crunches.... i haven't done the running in a week and 2 days for i was having chest pains and was told to stay off of it for a while.. but i do the crunches every day...

My daughter turned one today and she is also my reason for excercising.. plus i want to lose the rest of my post pregnancy belly.

I walk 5 - 7 days a week 2 1/2 miles.. Have to add that I absolutely FORCE myself out of the door every day. Also lift some weights at the gym where I work we have free access to the gym which is a great deal... Needing now to add more variety to my workouts as I am getting bored so I added Pilates... LMAO... The neutral position is a hoot because there is no way that that would EVER be neutral... LOL the pilates are very hard but I am keeping at em trying til I get it right... LOL Oh we are doing the Atkins diet and having some good success with it. Only problem is my husband he cheats on the diet does not exercise and has lost more that me this is annoying but for some reason his metabolism is responding better than mine.. I though, beleive I will be much better off than him though since I will be healthier than him because I work out and he doesn't...

Good luck to everyone who is struggling with this topic....

I work out. I try to go about three times a week, but some weeks I don't do very well. I walk and do some weight training. I try and step it up every once in a while to not get bored. I take some step classes and a kick boxing class every once in a while. i try new machines and do some swimming.
I guess you could say I am a cross trainer. I think of it more as not getting bored.
Don't worry men lose weight faster than women because we are supposed to have more fat on our bodies than they are.

I don't really work out in a gym, but several times a week, I WALK from my living to the kitchen, OPEN the fridge, GRAB a beer can, and WALK back to the living room. Sometimes, I even do that SEVERAL times a day !!!

Does that count ???? :D :D

LOl Phil you are so funny!! I used to work out in a gym last year, but because of money problems I had to stop. So now I try and do a little workout at home. I usually do squats, lunges, sit-ups, and arm curls. I'm gonna try and go back to the gym. I am trying to get me abs of steel!!LOL

Do you have a lil weight to lose as well? If so, adding cardio should help. Like 20 mins 3x a week. Crunches usually work the upper tummy harder than the lower...to get a better lower, instead of having your legs bent, feet on the floor, try legs straight out as you crunch, abt 1-2 inches above the floor..you'll feel it for sure if your working the lower abs in that position!! If its too difficult, start in the same position w/your heels lightly touching the floor, and work at raising them. The higher you hold your legs up, the greater the challenge!! Good luck!

You dont need special equipment, or a gym membership to get an effective workout...jumping rope for cardio is excellent if you can keep it up for abt 20 min each time, 3x a week. Switch it up a little...minute by minute...like, 1st min...march in place...2nd min...start jumping slowly..3rd..little faster...4th...all out jumping as fast as you can. Then on the 5th min, drop it back, slow jumping and repeat the pattern until you've done 20 min..the bursts help with getting a more effective workout.
As far as resistance/weight training..you still dont need equipment, especially if your just starting out...crunches, pushups, leg lifts...all use your body as the "weights"....one thing that is very effective, is to stand at the bottom of a set of stairs, starting w/right leg, put your right foot on the second step, and step up, following w/the left..now step back down...after doing about 12 on the right, switch, and do the same with your left leg. Try for 4 sets of 12 with each leg...that one move works every muscle from the waist down!! Be sure to keep your posture straight, and dont lean forward....good luck!!
