View Full Version : Introduction & a Question
CSunshyn 06-11-2004, 12:08 AM Hello all,
This is my first time on this site, and what a great outlet for people connected under these circumstances. My loved one is in San Quentin, on the row. He is currently in the hole, has about 30 more days there. Anyhow I have noticed the stationary in stores is so boring, and very "foo-foo" although I know he would never complain I was hoping to find something better online. I was wondering if anyone knows if San Quentin allows stationary to be shipped directly from websites or if I need to have it shipped to me first, and then to him? I know I could call the mail room but it is always seems such a hassle. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Jpoco31 06-11-2004, 12:35 AM I just wanted to say welcome to PTO! I live in Colorado, and I don't know about California... I would suggest , even though it's a pain in the neck, calling the mailroom. This is a great web site, I've met some very kind people here. It was great to find somewhere to vent, and know people understand what I'm going through. :)

Welcome to PTO :)
I am not sure about San Quentin, but most prisons dont let you send in stuff directly, it has to rather come from a publisher or purchased online, to that affect.
I know if Florida, you can send in stationary, up to 5 pages I believe.
Im sorry I cant answer your question, but I did want to welcome you to the forums. :)
I am sure someone will come along soon, and let you know.
tinkerpoo 06-11-2004, 04:45 PM My husband is on death row in San Quentin. I send him all sorts of stationary, stickers, etc. to help dress up his letters. I also have sent boxes of cards (minus the box they come in), random cards from Hallmark, etc. bookmarks, you name it so he has something to send his pen pals and loved ones. I have sent pop-up cards (as long as I make sure they aren't made out of anything that would be removed). If there is anything in particular you want to send, just let me know. Oh, I have also sent all of this stuff in myself and have never had anything returned, he's gotten everything just fine.
If I send books, etc. I order those from a vendor and have them shipped to him.
Have a great weekend.

tinkerpoo 06-11-2004, 04:47 PM I almost forgot. Death Row inmates at San Quentin have different rules etc. that have to be followed when sending stuff in. There hasn't been any limit on the amount of stationary, stamps, envelopes, etc. that I send. I've sent rather large packages to him and they dump it all into a brown bag and give him everything.

CSunshyn 06-11-2004, 10:08 PM Hello all & thanks for the responses.
TK According to my guy at San Quentin the guys on death row are allowed 50 sheet tablets, 100 stamps, no metal no plastic. I have only had one problem with mailing him stuff. I sent him 2 tablets of stationary in the same package & he only recieved one. I was just hoping to cut the time in half by mailing the stationary directly from the merchant to him. It seems like it may be worth the wait to just have it first sent to me, and then to him. I end up paying shipping twice, but I suppose knowing he has something to write on other then the awful paper they have there is worth it. I have also sent him stickers without issue... What vendor do you use to send books in? I hear amazon is good, any other suggestions?
Thanks much for the warm welcome,
tinkerpoo 06-12-2004, 10:15 AM I order books from Barnes and Noble. They have a tracking system that allows me to know when the package was delivered. Amazon cannot guarantee how something will be shipped to a prison because they use a variety of vendors. I've had really good luck with Barnes and Noble.
I know based on the prisoner and custody level some are allowed certain things and others are not. I haven't had any limits for my husband but there are a lot of things I cannot send to him that most people in the AC are allowed to have.
Take care,
TK
CSunshyn 08-22-2004, 11:20 AM Thanks TK. He has been buggin me in his letters about getting him some reading material... I guess I better get on that :) He mentioned amazon to me, I will try Barnes and Noble, I like the idea of being able to track it.
CSunshyn 08-27-2004, 08:22 PM Hey ladies, just wanted to let you know, and any future readers who had the same question know...
You can send in stationary directly to DR inmates at San Quentin, books however need to come from the vendor.
Thanks for the little bits of knowledge... he thanks you too :)
