Nope Buddy, money only, they have to buy everything from commissary. I do believe though that we can order magazine subscriptions, and can order books for them. They have to be shipped directly from the company though.
Gee I wish we could send packages, just look at the money we would save, everything has extra fees tacked on for them. Stinks, but its the way it is.
Pay to stay they say...

Buddy, the only thing you can send in the mail is pictures (no poloroid), greeting cards, print-outs from the internet (so institutions may have different rules). Everything else is like Heather said. Paying highway robbery prices.

Whining now: I remember my son bought a pair of tennis shoes that cost $90 in and they cost $40 on the outside. The commissary slip was in his things when he was discharged and I saw what he paid, I mean what I paid.

I have been able to send newspaper clippings, pages from puzzle books (one at a time), I also purchased a bible study book and have been tearing pages out two at a time and sending them. My hubby is at Mt. Pleasant.

you can send books but they have to be sent directly from the publisher. when they get to the prison if the book is not on a currently approved publications list, it will be reviewed by a committee and they most likely will approve it assuming it's not a book on locksmithing or something that could compromise the safety of the institution. if it is not approved it will be sent home.

I was at ISP yesterday and saw they have Christmas packages available from the canteen. There are only two to choose from - one was 10$ and one was 25$. I didn't order one - he's better off just getting the money and choosing what he wants.

I saw the package forms at Mt Pleasant and my son said it wasn't worth it, so we are sending money instead.

I sure wish we could send care packages to our loved ones, but Iowa sucks and we can't. We're stuck with just sending money. Each prison's rules are different so you should check with Mt Pleasant and see.

Take care.

I was just wondering if anyone knew what is acceptable to send to Anamosa. And also, if anyone knew how to review the "acceptable" book list?

I didn't know there was an acceptable book list. I've sent several books and they've all been accepted. I wonder if a bookstore would know?

The only things I know that can be sent are photographs, cards, calendars, books shipped from book stores (or amazon.com) and stuff printed on the internet. You can also pay for magazine subscriptions. And of course money.

My dad is in Nashville Tn and yes you can send stuff. They just check it throughly. You can even send food but it has to be sent thruogh a company. It can not be home made. They can even have jewerly and shoes sent but it has to be sent through a company. You also can send video tapes or casette tapes but they have to be in a clear case.Every institution is diffrent.Go to your institutions websit and look under mail or frequently asked questions. It may hook you up to adobe reader to view the rules of how to send it.Or you can go to contacts and email them your question.from toyia

silvrwolve, the inmate has to send you the guidelines for the books at Anamosa. They can only be so big and I don't remember the size limit.

Barnes Nobles used to have a book list for the Iowa Prisons and what was acceptable, but I'm not sure about that anymore either.

Happy Holidays!
