View Full Version : Clemency? What are the chances? SoAlone 06-09-2004, 02:15 PM My honey has LWOP but is filing from clemency in the state of Fl. next year. Does anyone know how often clemency is granted? Should I get my hopes up? Its our last chance!!! kerrilyn 06-09-2004, 02:50 PM i have no idea what the chances are, but i will say prayers. lots and lots of good luck!!!!! keep the faith ... qwerty 06-09-2004, 02:58 PM Always keep hope! Laws change, politics change, parole rules change... finally, we are seeing some lifers get paroled in California, and it's mainly because of the budget crisis. This nation will have to stop its incarceration mania someday, if only because we can't afford it. Good luck! shiva65 06-10-2004, 04:39 AM I am hoping to here in Massachusetts that with the new commissioner and hopefully alot will change in our prison systems. Parole, lengths of senctences.. and most importantly visits.. I know nothing about clemancy.. maybe you could check it out in the fla state forum . Good luck and keep trying... BryansGRRL 06-23-2004, 04:09 PM I have seen that about 20 something lifers get paroled that way a year?Out of ALL the lifers there are though.Depends on how tough the state is i think. And from what I know they get paroled right OUT,no seeing the board so your guy should make sure his ducks are in a row NOW for any chance he may get, good luck! MsChiku 06-23-2004, 04:57 PM A request for Clemency is a long shot. It the absolute last resort. After you've exhausted every legal avenue. In the state of Ohio you can apply for clemency every two years. The Governor usually deny the first request right off the back. Since this has to go before the Parole Board and they make their suggestions first. The Governor's decision is final. My husband received his first denial this month, we waited almost 6 months for a "no." So hope for the positive but expect the negative. Write now I'm waiting for the recommendations the Board made to the Governor. Once you're caught up in the Penal system, your just another number, therefore lost. I apologize for being negative but I was truly devistated with our "no." And I honestly felt my husband's case was sympathetic enough to be commuted to a lessor charge with the Governor's blessings. But again, I'm in OHIO. Best wishes to you in NY. SoAlone 07-01-2004, 02:43 PM He's in Florida, Im in NY. So I really know nothing. Except that its almost impossible. It really sucks when you're only chance is almost impossible. In Fl you are eligable for it every 5 years. So if not now, 5 more years???? UGHH! |
