View Full Version : I Am A Casualty Of The Drug War

The Drug War has left many casualties among us. Some are clearly seen and others not so obvious. My husband and I were both convicted on drug charges. He was charged with possession with intent and I was charged with aid and abet possession with intent. I spent a year in jail and he spent two years in prison and boot camp.

I am hoping to see a more compassionate approach to The Drug War and continue to Pray For Peace.

Pray For Peace

You've declared a war on drugs
In this land of the U.S.A.
Have you taken a look at the damage
You do each and everyday?

You've taken lots of prisoners
In this war you have declared,
You've locked up Mothers and Fathers
And you've got our children scared.

You've got parents missing in action
Responsibilities they can no longer fill,
You remove them from society
Just because they possess a pill.

Who is really fighting this war
And why is it being fought?
Greed seems to be at the center of it all
You want what you haven't got.

If you happen to be one that is captured
You'll end up doing alot of time,
Because in this war you've declared on drugs
Your punishment far outweighs the crime.

The answers aren't always easy
But it's easy to lock people away,
However, if you would help them with the problem
The could be productive someday.

You've helped to make the people
That you later hold in contempt,
They are only part of the problem
As you are not exempt.

This war on drugs has been lost
The casualties have been great,
Put your bullets away boys
Before it gets too late.

Let's find another solution
To this problem we can't ignore,
Let's draw the battle lines fairly
So that we can even the score.

Let's end this war and pray for peace
I am not your enemy,
The crimes you've committed in the War on Drugs
Are worse than the ones you blame on me.

My man was charged with possesion w/intent also. He did about the same amount of time as your guy. He also went through the boot camp program. After what that program did for him, I think everyone in the system should have to go there. He just sat around and did absolutely nothing until he got to camp. Once he was there they really started working on his problems and rehab.
I got in trouble a couple years ago, and was charged with CCW. When I was arrested they found pot on me, but I was never charged. Now when I have police contact, they bring that up. How do they even know? And who cares if I had some weed on me 7 years ago!

You should send a copy to our President--who had his marijuana moments in his younger days but somehow missed serving the time for this victimless crime!

Oh yes! I've never smoked marijuana, and I strongly discourage drug-abuse--but that doesn't keep me from believing that this war on drugs has been ridiculous and is just a contributor to overcrowded prisons in its present state.
