He said when he gets some type of disiplinary he has to watch ducks for hours his last # of hours was 200 hours....so if you aint crazy you will be sitting watching ducks for 200 hours.. within a time period specified... by the prison. I really dont know so I posted to see if anyone else heard of that before Im new to site...

Easterling is one of the few facilities in the ADOC that has a stupid rule about not sending in anything printed off the Internet. Which is idiotic, but you are dealing with a prison that has a million equally idiotic rules no other facility in the ADOC has...

I'm with Cember, what do you mean about watching ducks? I'm confused...

how wild would be funny if not true. i don't think it would bother me to watch ducks. but does a guard actually have the job of supervising that and getting paid 4 it

If I had to guess (and this is only a guess), copyright? The picture, especially if it's a Chrysler picture (from their website or released as part of their promotional materials) will be a copyrighted work; printing it out and mailing it may be construed as a violation of the exclusive rights of reproduction and/or distribution. Possibly even public display (though it's not *your* fault the mail's getting read, it is a display to one not a member of your private household).

Try sending a picture you take yourself and see if they complain...?

Not surprised - that place is nuts, it's no wonder nobody wants to go there and everyone there wants to leave... :shake:

Try saving the picture of the car to your pictures and then just print it out then it won't look like it came off the net.

what the heck?? what if there are no ducks out that day. do you sit and wait for one of them to land? does that time spent waiting go towards your disciplinary, or does only actual "ducks present" time count? that's got to be the dumbest thing ive ever heard!

well speaking of ducks, and to make this actually have the impact that it should you would have to be so lucky as to personally know my 5 yr old witty daughter (the one i share with joe) we were at the halfway house this weekend and she just a couple of weeks ago relized that joe is her dad and so she is currently struggling with treating him as though he actually has a brain.....she comes over to him while we are fishing and says "joe, i just stepped in some do do".....he goes "was it brown do do or white do do" she goes "whats it matter it was do do" he says cause the ducks poo BIG nasty white do do all over the place so i just wanted to know if you hooked yerself up on the duck do or what?" she goes "JOE!! I got this you just sit there and watch the fish"!!! if you only knew her and her smart mouth and how she really thinks he is gonna let him talk to her that way for a long time youd die laughing.....he told her "look, if you wanna keep on with that mouth of yours, you are gonna have to pay me cause so far im not seeing the benifit"....she says (while rolling her eyes) "you need to listen to me so you dont get in trouble with mom"...i liked to died laughing with this witty banter of hers going on but the point i wanted to make is, are they maybe having to watch out for duck do cause it would make more sense as these ducks REALLY do make HUGE messes when they poo!!

OHMYGOSH I am so anxious to ask my husband about this since he has been at Easterling for more than 11 years and I have never heard him talk about watching ducks. In the first place, where the heck are they gonna watch ducks? The place is in the middle of farm country and if you were gonna have them watch ANYTHING, they'd do better counting cows. I'm dying laughing on this one but I agree with what Lysbeth said ........ you would not believe the rules they make up down there. I didn't even know it was unusual until I came to PTO and found out how weird they are there. James had tried to tell me for years and I"m just like "yeah, yeah, yeah, it's prison, James ~~ what did you expect." (As if I knew more than he did after being there for over 26 years??!?!?!) Funny the guy still loves me when I act so stupid about prison stuff.

Maybe they can't send in a picture of a car because they will consider it part of a escape plan. Don't laugh, there are stupider rules than that one. I like the most recent mail one. You can't send a LETTER larger than a #10 envelope. BUT if it is a CARD, you can send any size. ????? You can write all over the card and make it a letter but you can't send a letter in a card envelope. And sometimes you can send things in printed off the 'net and sometimes you can't. Depends on the mood of the Mail Goddess at the time it comes through there. I just thought of something. What if it is a picture NOT of a Chrysler product? Maybe they are just partial to other makes and models. Again, don't laugh. I've known weirder rules that crazy warden has enforced.

Care, laughing out loud because its too crazy to understand.

Well, I finally got an answer from my husband that MIGHT shed some light on this. :-) Here is what he wrote:

What he is talking about (watching ducks)...he has to be in the SAP dorm and when they get R.V.'s sometimes they will get so many hours of chair time. This means that they have to sit in a chair, facing the wall for x amount of time as their punishment. Well, in the SAP dorm they have pictures painted on the walls so apparently he is looking at a picture of ducks. :)

LOL... I actually found out the answer to this the other day too (except it didn't occur to me until I read this thread again that THIS was the duck he was talking about)...

It's actually a stork - you know that cartoon where the stork is trying to eat the frog, and the frog has got his hands around the stork's throat so he can't swallow the frog? THAT'S the duck!! Any of you who are familiar with Alabama's SAP program are probably familiar with "the chair" - the one at Limestone just faced a plain wall - but in the SAP dorm at Easterling, there's the duck (stork). So they actually call it "riding the duck". :haha:

He said in the other side of the dorm is Bart Simpson on the wall (I said "So what, does that mean they're riding Bart Simpson?" LOL... :ha: ) and in another of the dorms there's a picture of some other kind of animal (I now forget what) and they call it "riding the <whatever>" in there too...

LOL! I came across this thread and I had to laugh......Terry is at Easterling and he is in the dorm that has the "DUCKS" and he has to watch them all the time and he hates it....he says it is better, though, then getting a displinary for simple things when he can watch the "duck" and be done with it....

I gotta get the heck out of this forum! It's gonna get me on another Rant!

There are 2 dorms at Easterling that are "Pre-Sap" dorms. You must be in one for six months before you can go into the single "Crime Bill Sap" dorm.

These are called 'structure' dorms... they have dozens and dozens of additional bull**** rules... some written down, some not.

They have 'peacekeepers' (called po-lice in white) who write RV's (Rules Violations). The counselor then assigns hours in the Time-Out Chair (TOC) - which are long hard benches. In F-2 the wall you stare at has Bart Simpson on it. In G-1 it is the picture of the crane being choked by the frog as he tries to eat it - with a caption that says "Never Give Up!" In G-2 - the SAP dorm I think you stare at the 12 Steps of AA.

If your guy is in G-1... ask him if he has found the monster in the woods behind the crane. If you look at the wall long enough, you see big eyes staring at you. Hope this clears up the duck questions.
